A foreign power can send airstrikes killing 56 people- including 14 children- and still receive support, both financial and through attitude, from the US government.

A Palestinian militia group kills 6 people (adults) in Israel, after weeks of being forcibly evicted and brutalized by the Israeli government. The US government and politicians are up in arms over this ‘act of terror’.

The Israeli government retaliates by killing over 9x the amount of people, including children, in government-sanctioned air strikes, with the enthusiastic promise of sending more, and the US government is completely silent.

This isn’t just a culture clash. This is a government brutalizing a group of people for their own imperialist benefit. This isn’t just a religious disagreement. This is a militaristic state using its military to do horrific things.

The US has long had a deep problem with Islamophobia. If the majority cultures of the sides were switched, the US would never dream of backing the side that they are. It would be played as Israel bravely fighting back against an oppressive regime. It would be played as horrifying acts of a sovereign government, of a valiant fight for freedom. But no. Because of the prejudices that are so deeply woven into America’s government, no matter which side Palestine is on, they will always be painted as the villains, the terrorists, the evil.

This isn’t okay. The media bias on this issue is not okay. Please, look at the facts. Look at the numbers. Don’t just look at the sensationalist headlines. The US government is not the bringer of hope and freedom that the propaganda tells you it is. It’s just as corrupt as any other large imperialist state. Don’t forget that.

(Note: this is not a slight on the civilians of Israel or the Jewish community. This is a condemnation of the corruption in the Israeli government and the US government, not a religious or cultural grievance. Do not use these events as an excuse to be anti-Semitic. Do not.)
