I am an absolute bitch for the “Peko and Maki are a part of the Ishimaru family” headcanon. Here’s how it works.

Peko - Older sister of Kiyotaka, Birth name Harumi. Toranosuke had kidnapped Harumi from her crib and taken her to the Kuzuryus to repay a debt he owed them, acknowledging that she could be raised to protect their newborn son. Toranosuke lied to Takaaki and his wife, claiming that a masked man had taken the girl. Notably, Toranosuke offered Harumi as the payment because he also did not want a female heir.

(Oh and i totally didn’t get Peko’s birth name from @foryoupeko’s Kuzupeko fanchild named Harumi, as when rifling about for Japanese names I found it and thought “wait a damn minute wouldn’t it be cool if Fuyuhiko named her that on a whim, they find out about Peko’s birth documents, but Peko refuses to change it to “Give our daughter the life that could have ben”)

Maki - Daughter of Toranosuke himself, younger than Kiyotaka by a few months . One of the many scandals was Her disappearance, as the hospitals had record of Maki’s birth that Maki’s mother had dug up during Toranosuke’s fall (notably this got her mother killed)

so we’re clear if Taka ever found out he would actually lose his bananas. Like he would apologize for not referring to Maki with “enough” respect and would refer to her as his aunt in a very formal manner until she’s tells him it’s weird and instead asks he call her cousin or sister if he insists on referring to her with familial terms

Peko is on the fence about it- on one hand she respects Taka’s discipline and their shared Kendo abilities, however his excessive devotion to being a “model citizen” at the cost of his long term well being generally distresses her (she sees herself in him and it makes her very mad to see him make the same mistakes she did)

Don’t you dare mischaracterize my boy Taka as an innocent lil baby who doesn’t swear or lose his composure. He curses both in the introductory scenes and when Mondo is convicted. He curses when he’s overwhelmed and confused with no other way to express himself. He is capable of rage. He is capable of hatred.

LET HIM BE ANGRY. LET HIM BE FULL OF DEFIANCE AND THE DESPERATE YET REPRESSED URGE TO SNAP AND THRASH AND BARE HIS TEETH.

HE IS NOT AN UWU SOFTBOY GOD DAMN IT HE WAS THE BASE FOR PEKO PEKOYAMA

Taka saying “My friend Mondo” means sm to me. He needs to affirm to himself that they’re friends. That he has a reason to defend a killer. That he made a friend, even if they’ve done something terrible. Yeah. That’s his friend mondo. His friend Mondo, who would never stoop to homicide.

Because this is all a mistake, it has to be. He doesn’t know how his friend Mondo knew that the shirt was blue, but that doesn’t mean his friend Mondo killed Fujisaki. It’s not true, his friend Mondo is innocent, why are they all trying to frame his friend Mondo?
