It was just another normal day going to school.
You watched as couples and friendgroups wandered past you, their laughter and easy camaraderie making a light sense of envy bubble up inside of you.
A part of you longed for such connections, even though you are more than content with being by yourself. You guessed that a part of you thought that you were wasting away your youth, spending it mostly alone in your room.
Not that you were some reclusive NEET or anything. In fact, you had a friend who was currently shouting your name obnoxiously loud, his hurried footsteps eating up the distance between you.
“Heeeey, [ ]~! Wait up!”
And for a moment, you thought about just ignoring him, picking up the pace and potentially enjoying a peaceful day at school by yourself. But considering him making a fool out of himself screaming after you, you took pity at the last second. You stopped to wait for him, his long legs catching up to you in no time.
That someone was Bunny, your childhood friend since you were a kid. You grew close after his adoptive father, Lavinho, organised multiple playdates in hopes of adjusting Bunny to a normal life, including making proper friends his age.
You didn’t know much about his time before he was taken in by your kind neighbour, but you speculated that he didn’t have the best history, judging from the numerous deep scars littering his whole body.
But the past doesn’t seem to affect him much— he was a cheerful and energetic young man despite the occasional dark joke, even more so now, slinging his arms around you in a backwards hug when he caught up to you.
“…! H-hey, stop it, you are heavy-!”
You sputtered, struggling to keep yourself upright. You saw some students snickering at you two, making your cheeks burn. Bunny, as nice and cheerful as he was, he was also kind of dense, oblivious to the fact that his displays of affection could give off a false idea of your relationship.
You eventually managed to wrangle him off of you, huffing as you adjusted your uniform.
“Seriously, you aren’t as small as you once were, Bunny…”
You reprimanded, to which the other just chuckled, shuffling closer to you, a pep in his step.
“Haha, that is true… I was just so thrilled seeing you! It has been a while since we walked to school together, eh?”
He mused, making you sweatdrop.
“Yeah, since you always oversleep, you idiot…”
To that, he only sheepishly laughed, scratching the back of his head. In middle school, you and Bunny had always walked to school together, considering that the two of you were neighbours, but ever since high school started, the white-haired boy began to oversleep more and more, leaving you to go to school alone.
“That’s true, huh… can’t help it, the bed is too comfy~!”
He said, making you roll your eyes in exasperation. You continued walking, approaching the school building, when Bunny perked up again, looking at you curiously.
“By the way [ ], have you already decided on a club to join yet?”
As he said that, you noticed a coy glint in his eyes, a telling sign that he was planning something. Most likely involving you. You only sighed at that, thinking for a bit.
In all honesty, no, you haven’t. You didn’t have any particular interest in joining a club, preferring to head straight home to the comfort of your room.
It wasn’t like you had any friend group to hang out with either.
After much contemplation, you decided to answer truthfully, shaking your head. In the corner of your eye, you saw Bunny’s eyes light up.
“…no, I have not, not really.”
“Then I have the perfect club for you!”
He eagerly announced, turning your body towards him by your shoulders. Now that you locked eyes with each other, you saw the sparkle dance in his normally dull red hues.
“Did you know that I’m the vice president of the literature club? You should, like, totally join!”
He said, making you raise an eyebrow. Bunny? Literature? That was certainly new. You never knew that he had an interest in literature. If anything, you suspected him to be in the debate club or something, considering that he had some weird rivalry going on with a red head ever since he joined high school.
“Literature…?”
You repeated, tilting your head in confusion, followed by eager head nodding.
“Yes! It’s great, really, and you will make tons of new friends! It makes me sad, seeing you alone all the time, [ ]…”
Bunny lamented, dramatically clutching his chest area. You snorted at the dramatic display, shaking your head. You entered the school grounds, the scene getting busier with the amount of students walking in.
You thought about it, trying not to look into Bunny’s puppy eyes but ultimately failing, making you let out a defeated sigh at the end.
“Fine, fine… I’ll think about it.”
You said, making your childhood friend cheer.
“You won’t regret it!”
He said, before skipping away, probably on his way to torment Sae. You just sighed at his antics, feeling an uneasy feeling bubble up as you saw him depart.
“I didn’t even agree to joining yet…”
— — —
And just like that, the last bell rang. You couldn’t even exit your classroom before Bunny peaked his head inside, his prominent scar making him instantly recognizable under the sea of stundents.
“[ ], ready to go?”
He chirped, flashing you a smile, making you deadpan. You looked outside the window, watching as all the other students went home. It filled you with your own sense of longing for your bed, alongside a good game and snacks.
“I don’t know…to be honest, I don’t feel so good.”
You quickly bluffed, making Bunny let out a whine.
“Whaat? But you promised!”
He said, making you sputter.
“W-what? I didn’t promise anything! I told you… I’ll think about it…”
You muttered that last part, making Bunny huff. His expression then turned to a sheepish one, twiddling with his thumbs before clasping his hands together in a pleading gesture.
“Please, [ ]~! I-I kind of already said to everyone that I would bring another member…”
He said, looking at you with his signature puppy eyes, the innocent look betraying his true self. You just gaped, appaled at the fact that he had already made such a hasty promise to his club members.
“Bunny… are you serious?”
You muttered, pinching the bridge of your nose.
“Why would you…”
“I know! I’m sorry, but they are going to be reaaally mad if you don’t come now! One even made yummy treats for the new member!”
He said, making you sigh. A feeling of guilt bubbled up at the thought of letting these people down. And you guessed that a simple visit for some sweet treats wouldn’t hurt…
So with another defeated sigh, you nodded, slinging your bag over your shoulder. You watch as Bunny’s eyes light up again.
“Fine, fine. I’ll stop by for a sweet treat.”
“Yes! I swear, you want me to keep living for just a bit longer, [ ]!”
“Don’t joke about that…”
Bunny ignored your warning, opting to just give a sheepish smile. You admit, seeing his genuine smile made your heart lighter for just a bit, picking up the pace as he took your hand in his, pulling you towards the club room.
You two entered a section that you weren’t super familiar with, but even before you could register the new surroundings, Bunny swung open a door, his voice booming through the room, alerting everyone.
“Hellooo~! I brought the new member, guys!”
He excitedly exclaimed, making you stiffle a groan.
“Bunny, I already told you…”
You began, before you locked eyes with the supposed members of the literature club. There were only three other guys in there, all eyeing you skeptically.
But before you could correct him, all the words died on your tongue as your cheeks began to burn. Holy shit. This club was full of hot guys.
One of them, a blonde with blue ends gave you a sharp glare, his blue eyes probably able to cut diamonds. He huffed, crossing his arms as he looked at you and then bunny with a pointed gaze.
“Seriously? You brought a nerd?”
He spat out, leaning back in his chair. You raised an eyebrow at that, assessing his attitude. No need to be rude…
You tore your eyes away from him, instead looking at the other guy who was already reading a book. He had wine red hair with a dark gaze, his nearly completely black eyes seemingly dissecting you piece by piece.
“…”
Contrary to the other one, he didn’t say anything, taking his time to judge you. You gulp, hesitantly looking up at Bunny, who flashed you a big smile.
“No offense, but these guys look like trouble—“
You began to mutter to your childhood friend, before being interrupted by another voice, one that was smooth and charming, unlike the rest of the cast.
“Wha- ah, what a nice surprise [ ]!”
It was only when you looked into a pair of eyes seemingly swimming in liquid gold that you fully froze. The person standing in front of you was Julian Loki. The Julian Loki.
“Ah…”
You didn’t even really have the words. You didn’t expect that Loki of all people, arguably the most popular guy at school, would join a club. Let alone a literature club.
He was kind of a superstar, being known for his athleticism. Rumours were going around, talking about him starting a professional football career after he graduates. That, or becoming a model, one of the two.
Nontheless, you were even surprised that he knew your name. You never interacted, although you two were in the same class last year. You never thought that you would ever talk to him, considering that he was always surrounded by the entire school.
“Told you that I would deliver!”
Bunny says, patting your shoulder roughly, making you stumble a bit, shooting him a glare. You then turned your eyes back towards the three boys, waving awkwardly.
“Yeah…hi.”
You said, letting you get pulled towards a long table they arranged by pulling the desks together in the middle of the classroom. You still felt a bit awkward, but you were reassured when Loki shot you a smile.
“Your friend told us a lot about you,”
The young man said, making nervousness bubble up inside you.
“Did he now…”
You muttered, followed by a lighthearted chuckle by Loki.
“Don’t worry, its all positive! Nice to see you again, [ ].”
He said. Loki then looks through the room, as if registering if everyone is present. He then smiles, nodding towards you.
“Well, since everyone is here, I guess I should introduce everyone! This is Kaiser,”
He pointed to the blonde, who just muttered something under his breath. You gulped, noting that despite him looking your age, that you never saw him in any classes.
“The unusually quiet one is Hugo,”
Loki nodded to the red-head reading a book, his empty gaze seemingly assesing you again.
“And I guess you already know the vice-president Bunny. And that leaves me, as the president!”
He said, making you blink.
“Wait… the president? Are you running a club beside your training as well, Loki? That’s impressive.”
You blurt out, oblivious to the burning of his ears at your praise. Loki sheepishly laughs at that, waving you off.
“T-that’s nothing, the football academy is hardly something I need to sacrifice a ton of time for,”
he said, making you raise an eyebrow. You guessed that this guy really does it all, huh… you felt a little pathetic, sitting in front of such a capable human being, while you were just a lonely high school student.
You were interrupted by Bunny nudging you, snickering.
“Don’t be intimidated by him, [ ]! He is a good and trusty president~”
He chirped, wrapping an arm casually around you. In the corner, you could see Kaiser raising an eyebrow, making you want to sink into the ground.
“Yeah, I’d imagine…”
You say, before casting another look through the room, watching as Kaiser retreated towards the closet, rumaging around in them, Hugo leaning against the windowsill already immersed again, and Loki reading in front of you and Bunny, what seems to be a book about football theory.
You leaned towards Bunny, whispering.
“Um…so what exactly do you guys… do here?”
Bunny snickered at that, whispering in your ear.
“Oh, well… most days, we just do what we feel like. Sometimes, we discuss the things we read,”
He says, making you hum in understanding. This was a lot more laid back and…chill than you initially thought. Maybe you will be home here after all. The tension was also gone after everyone dispersed doing their own thing, only leaving a calm, and gentle athmosphere.
You squirmed around a bit, feeling a bit left out without a book. Once again, you turn towards your childhood friend.
“Um… what… what do you read, Bunny?”
You said, making the other jump. But after a bit of assessment, he seemed to register your dilemma, a smile stretching across his face.
He leaned in, his breath nudging against your ear.
“Oh, you don’t have a book, right?”
“Well, I didn’t even know that I would join a literature club today, so no.”
He chuckled at your deadpan expression, before sliding the book he was reading towards you.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let you down~ you can read this with me, I’ll begin from the beginning.”
Bunny flipped to the first page, and you two began to read together. At first, it was a bit awkward, but after a while, you two settled into a nice rythym.
The book was surprisingly insightful and gloomy, one that you thought was a bit uncharacteristic for Bunny. The novel had a lot of heavy themes, including suicidal ideologies and grim worldviews, making a heavy feeling pool in your gut.
But your childhood friend seemed unpreturbed by this, the slight smile on his face never faltering as his eyes glided over the words. It was almost like he felt content, reading something like this.
It was only when Bunny nudged you with his shoulder that you were taken out of your trance.
“Can I turn the page?”
He asked, and only then did you realise that you didn’t read a single word, and instead just analysed his face for the last five minutes.
You gulped, before hesitantly nodding. You redirected your gaze to the page again, your eyes following the letters without your brain registering them. After a while, you finally brought up the courage, gulping.
“Wow… this is some really heavy stuff…”
You mumbled, eliciting a quiet hum from Bunny.
“Do you like these kinds of stories…?”
You asked, making the other perk up, his dull red eyes locking with yours. He seemed to think for a bit, before nodding.
“I guess… they make me feel a bit at ease.”
He muttered, making concern bubble up inside you.
“Oh…”
“Happy stories just make me feel a bit weird. Why are they so goddamn happy all the time? I guess that it just makes me a bit angry.”
He said, his eyes flickering with an emotion you couldn’t name. Was it envy? Disgust? Anger? You didn’t know. You pressed your lips together, fiddling with the edge of the page.
“I didn’t know that about you, Bunny, it’s… really interesting,”
You said, making the other blink, seemingly not expecting the answer. You looked up at him, an apologetic smile forming on your face.
“I didn’t realise that, but it’s been a while since we hung out, right? I…I would like to change that, so…if there is anything bothering you, I…I can listen, okay?”
You mustered up, a light tingling feeling bubbling up inside you. You were sure that you were overstepping. It really wasn’t your place to dissect Bunny’s psychology, but an inkling inside you urged you to say these words.
It just felt right.
You looked at your childhood friend, and for a moment, you saw his eyes widen just a fraction, a shade of pink spreading through his cheeks. That was followed by a sheepish laugh, one that felt a bit forced and awkward.
“…hahaha, what are you, trying to charm me?”
He said, his hand rising to ruffle your hair, shattering the athmosphere.
“Seriously, you say that I can’t catch social cues but then you pull something like this! If I didn’t know any better, I would say that you were coming onto me~”
He said, making you sputter, scooting away.
“W-what are you saying? That isn’t it—“
You blurt out, the flash of hurt in Bunny’s eyes flying over your head as you tried to set the record straight.
“I’m just saying that I care about you, Bunny…”
You mutter, making the other momentarily freeze up.
“[ ]…”
“Ah, that reminds me, didn’t you have some treats for our newbie, Kaiser?”
Bunny jolted as he was interupted by Loki’s voice, one that was encouraging everyone to redirect their attention to the blonde, including you.
Kaiser sputtered at that, averting his eyes from you as he crossed his arms.
“Wha-I— It’s not like I got them for you or anything…”
He spat out, making you raise an eyebrow.
“But didn’t you? I’m the newbie, no?”
You say, unknowingly riling him up even more.
“D-don’t get smart with me!”
He huffed, before giving up, runnging a hand through his hair in a defeated fashion before dissapering into a secluded corner, pulling up a tray and setting it down on the table the members gathered around in. He pulled the foil back, revealing…
“Bread…rusks?”
You said, looking at the sticks of bread dusted in cinamon sugar. The reaction was followed by a huff from the blonde, who glared at you again.
“What, do you have a problem with that?”
He huffed, making you instantly shake your head, intimidated by his aggressive nature. Loki just sighs, shooting you a warm look.
“Don’t mind him, Kaiser is always like that. He doesn’t mean it though.”
He said, leaning in slightly. You could smell his cologne, one that was warm and expensive, befitting of someone like him. He shoot you a polite smile, one that demanded your entire attention as he spoke with you.
“Is there a specific reason why you decided to join [ ]? Any genres you are particularly interested in?”
He asked, before being interupted by Kaiser plopping down beside him, watching as Bunny munched on the bread rusks with a delighted hum.
He huffed, rolling his eyes as he huffed.
“As if… bet she only joined to be with her boyfriend,”
He snorted, making both you and Bunny momentarily sputter. You were quick to shake your head, laughing sheepishly.
“Th-that’s definitely not true! Me and Bunny are friends, and if anything…”
You stop, looking through the room before your eyes landed on the tray of bread rusk. You swiftly took one, pointing at them.
“I came for the sweet treat Bunny has promised,”
You said, biting into one. You were met with a sweet flavour, one that wasn’t overpowering at all, making you let out a delighted hum. From the corner of your eye you could see Kaiser looking dumbfounded by your response, looking at you as you ate.
“Oh! This tastes really good, Kaiser!”
You said, making the blonde freeze up, before his face turned red.
“T-that—“
He sputtered, before it was interupted by Loki, who let out a chuckle.
“Pfft—! I… really, I rarely met anyone like you, [ ]!”
He laughed, making you let out a sheepish chuckle. By then, Kaiser has composed himself again, not having anything new to say, choosing to stay silent as he quietly basked in your praise.
You were relieved to have diffused the misunderstanding, watching Bunny and Hugo talk to eachother, before Loki began to catch your attention again.
“So you aren’t reading anything, yeah?”
“Umm… not really, I… like to read psychology books, I guess…”
You say, noticing how Kaiser visibly perked up, a flicker of interest crossing his face.
“Oh, then what—“
“You read psychology books?”
Kaiser interrupted Loki, raising an eyebrow at your confession. You nod, scratching the back of your head.
“Yeah… occasionally, I like philosophy too… I recently read beyond good and evil.”
You said, nodding. That seemed to make Kaiser light up, leaning in.
“That’s…!”
He seemed to catch himself before he could get too excited, clearing his voice.
“…f-fine, I guess. I mean, it’s pretty basic, to be honest,”
He stuttered, averting his eyes, making you raise an eyebrow.
“Oh? Then do you have any reccomendations, then?”
You asked, making him huff.
“A-as if I would tell you…”
“It would be optimal, considering we are in a literature club…”
“Y-you…!”
You snickered, resting your head on the back of your hand with a smug face, watching the flustered expression on the blondes face. You now began to understand the appeal behind Bunny’s desire to provoke someone.
You and Kaiser began to lightly bicker with eachother, the light athmosphere seemingly loosening up everyone else as well. And even though Kaiser tried to hide it as best as he could, you could tell that he too had fun talking with you, evident by the occasional grins he couldn’t hide from you.
This was only interrupted by Loki nudging Kaiser, making the other scowl.
“How about we continue this conversation with tea? Hugo has some in the closet, if I remember…”
He said, making the red head perk up, nodding before wordlessly dissappearing into the closet, presumambly to get the tea supplies.
“You are allowed to have a whole tea set here?”
You asked, making Loki nod.
“Yeah, the teachers permitted it. Well, they permitted me, but who’s checking?”
He chuckled, making you let out a quiet laugh. Well, you guessed that made sense. Loki was enjoying many priveleges, considering that he was a prodigy and all.
Hugo returned with the tea set shortly after, setting it down in the middle of the table beside the bread rusks. He poured you a cup alongside everyone else, taking a seat next to you across from Loki.
Hugo was the only one that you didn’t exchange any words with, only quietly sitting next to you with a book in his hand, making you curious.
You turned towards him, tilting your head.
“Um.. what are you reading? Seems pretty immersive…”
You say, making the other blink, before wordlessly turning the book towards you. It was only then that you caught a glimpse of the pages filled with… blank. You sweatdrop, inspecting the empty page.
“It’s…blank?”
You asked him, making the other shrug his shoulders.
“So?”
He quipped, as if you were the one asking ridiculous questions.
“What are you reading, then?”
You asked further, leaning in as if you could decipher teeny tiny letters on the pages.
“…”
Hugo seemed to contemplate your question carefully before answering.
“It helps me think,”
He said, making you hum. Frankly, you still did not know what he meant by that, but you became fascinated nontheless. Till now, every member of the literature club has been more peculiar than the rest, and Hugo seemed to be no different.
“Oh… do you mean that you… imagine the words on the page yourself?”
You asked, tilting your head. And for a moment, you could see something flicker in Hugo’s eyes, seemingly wanting to say something, but he was interrupted by Loki who let out a chuckle, shaking his head.
“Hugo? No way, he doesn’t really dabble in writing as far as I know,”
The golden eyed boy exclaimed, waving your claim off. In the corner of your eye you could see the red-head quirk his eyebrow, seemingly offended by what the other said.
But he didn’t seemed to be inclined to be provoked, only redirecting his gaze back to the blank pages, his eyes skimming through the paper.
“Actually, I do. Writing became a past time of mine a while ago, Loki.”
He said, making everyone’s attention turn towards him.
“Eh, really?”
Bunny exclaimed, an amused smile on his face as he stole another bread rusk from the tray. Kaiser seemed to be as equally surprised, before he let out a snort, rolling his eyes.
“Pfft— okay, no offense, but I originally thought that you couldn’t even read. Y’know, with your special books and all.”
That sentence earned himself a pointed glare from Hugo, before you chimed in, a flicker of interest dancing in your eyes. You hummed, clasping your hands together.
“I didn’t know that you wrote stuff in your spare time! Can I read some of them?”
You exclaimed, oblivious to the stiffening of Hugo’s body, surprised at your genuine interest. He was momentarily stunned, before he cleared his voice, using his hand before his mouth to hide the flustered expression on his face.
“Ah…if…if you would like to, I could bring you some next time…”
He exclaimed, averting his eyes so you couldn’t see his bashful expression. You nodded, humming, before the president chimed in again.
“Then, why not make it into an excercise for next time? The next time we see eachother, lets present our writings to eachother!”
He cheerfully exclaimed, his warm gaze directed at you.
“What do you think, [ ] ?”
He asked, making you immediately sputter, not really having expected to be asked of your opinion.
“Ah…I guess it could be fun… but I would let the club as a whole decide…”
“That’s right, why aren’t you asking us too, Loki?”
Kaiser huffed, putting a hand on his hips. To that Loki just blinked, an unreadable expression flickering through his face before he sheepishly laughed.
“I was going to, before you interrupted me, Kaiser—“
“I think that could be fun~”
Bunny said, wrapping an arm around you. You squimed out of his hold, but nodded in agreement. Hugo also seemed to be on board, and with everyone’s gaze on Kaiser, he looked like he was about to say something, before he conceeded, sighing.
“Wha— okay, okay, fine! Just don’t expect to not shed tears at my artistry…”
He said, making you deadpan, but laugh afterwards. After that, the sun was already setting in the distance, signaling the club meeting to a close. You and Bunny packed up together, saying your goodbyes to everyone before leaving the school premises.
As you two walked, you noticed an unusual silence surrounding Bunny, making an uneasy feeling errupt in you. Normally, he was always pretty chatty, especially with you around, so having him so silent was unusual.
You turned your gaze towards him, and you noticed a solemn look on his face before it was washed away by a grin stretching through his face.
“What is it?”
You asked, making the other hum, waving you off.
“Ehh? What, can’t I admire my super charming friend?”
He exclaimed, which was answered by a deadpan look. He then sighed, a more genuine chuckle escaping him before he redirected his gaze towards the setting sky.
“Nah, but for real… I guess I was just wondering wether or not you liked it or not. The guys there are quite… peculiar, after all.”
He said, making you snort.
“Well, yeah, they most certainly aren’t…”
You said, before turning towards Bunny, locking eyes with his dull ones.
“But if I can handle you, I can handle them as well. It was fun. thank you Bunny!”
You exclaimed, opening the door to the porch of your house. He had walked you home, his own home being directly beside yours. You saw Bunny smiling as well, although you noticed that his smile didn’t exactly reach his eyes. But before you could say anything, you were suddenly enveloped by him, his big, scarred arms enveloping you.
“I’m glad… I’m so happy seeing you make some new friends,”
He exclaimed, before parting from you. By then, he was back to his usual self, smiling as he watched you dissapear though your front door.
“See you tomorrow! I’ll be sure to not oversleep this time!”
He laughed, watching the door close shut with your skeptical look, before allowing his mask to fall. A moment of silence followed, and for a moment, Bunny reached out to the door handle, a part of him wanting to follow you inside.
To envelope you properly.
But he stopped himself last minute, a humourless chuckle escaping him as he registered his own feelings.
“Shit…”
He muttered, touching the scar on his face as a way to ground himself. As a way to tell himself that a reality like that could never happen. You would never pick someone as damaged as him.
“This is bad…”

His oddly green colored hair tickled your skin as he embraced you, his lithe arms wrapping around you.
The motion was done in an unusual way, his grip just a bit too rough and twisted and surprisingly strong for a knobby child like you.
But that was just N in general. And in some way, you were too, being inside this gilded cage alongside him.
Your breathing picked up as he moved closer.
It was suffocating, having him cling to you all the time. It made you angry at times, lashing out and thrashing around, pushing him away with harsh words.
But after that initial blow, the boy would just blink, smile, before asking you "and what can you do about it?", before moving to cage you again, this time in a corner.
He would then curl himself in your embrace, your body forced to slot against his, the pokemon moving to further keep you from moving away.
And you would stay there, sometimes for hours.
Sometimes for days.
Looking at the closed shut door like it would someday magically open and take you away from your suffocating existence.
Your head lolled to the side, due to N burrying his head into the crook of your neck. He inhaled, before laughing, the child having no sense of privacy for the kid his age.
"You smell like me, [ ]. And I smell like you. We share a scent."
He said, giggling, his embrace tightening when you didn't answer.

The first bits of sunlight were peaking through the blinds by the time you finished "thanking" him for his blood, with you collapsed on his bed with an exhausted heave. Your head was still spinning, your limps simultaniously jello and a twitching mess, still reeling from the night.
You gulp, refocusing yourself before you tucked at the golden collar around your neck, the itching sensation of the material getting more and more prominent.
"Loki..." you slurred out, looking at the other currently above you, giving you a small hum as he adjusted the leash. "We've been going at it for hours..."
To that, he only blinked, before sighing. "I guess..." he murmured, tugging on your leash, propping you up. He flicked your forehead again, making you yelp. "And here I thought that vampires would have more stamina..."
He lamented, before smiling. He caressed your cheek, making your heart flutter for a moment before retreating.
"Well, nothing to do about that. Come on, we'll continue after a meal."
"Yeah... wait, we will continue after...?!"
"Don't act like you don't want to."

When Loki was a kid, he spend a lot of time in his childhood feeding stray dogs.
They were his favorite, and he always made time to feed them whenever he went to practice.
He always found them so adorable, so cute how they all waited for him after he was done, not trusting anyone else but him.
He found it adorable, how they fought for his gifts and attention, growling and circling each other before immediately straightening up when he came.
And he especially found it adorable how devoted they were to him, eagerly eating out of his hand like he was a god giving out blessings.
And in turn for his gifts, they gave him loyalty.
They didn’t approach anyone else but him.
Whenever he arrived at the shady spot with one of his teammates, the dogs would always choose him, without fail.
Because in their eyes, there was no one else. There was only one deity blessing them.
And he reveled in their loyalty, in their worship. For him, there was no better feeling than being worshipped, than being depended on. He wanted to be someones everything, the one blessing them with his gifts, someone he could provide for.
He wanted someone that didn’t need a collar to remind them who they belonged to, he wanted someone who knew that out of instinct.
He wanted someone that saw him as an exception, as their sole reason that they were alive.
He sat you down on the kitchen stool, your mouth opening after he picked up a piece of fruit, feeding it to you.
You were like a little fruitbat, your appetite for the sweet flesh almost being as high as the thirst for his blood.
His heart soared as he heard you mumble out a small “thank you..”
— — —
From the moment you were born, you always wanted to belong.
Ever since you were a kid, you were always reaching for something to hold on to.
A parent. A friend. A toy.
You guessed it came from the fact that you were always excluded, always left out of the group and left to fend for yourself.
It scarred you, this experience, the hollow feeling in your chest growing heavier whenever you looked through the playground, only to register that you were the only one who didn’t belong.
This feeling of want eventually spiraled the moment you reached your teenage years.
It developed into something twisted, into something darker.
You no longer wanted to simply belong. That wasn’t enough for your starved soul.
The hunger turned into an all consuming black hole of desperate want.
You wanted to be owned now. You wanted to be coddled and spoiled, no longer forced to fend for yourself. You no longer wanted to even have the need for reaching out, for your hand would always be in someone else’s.
You wanted someone to worship like a god, someone who would guide you through your existence.
You didn’t want to feel alone ever again, you wanted someone to look forward to, someone you could return to like a home.
You wanted someone to be your instinct, someone to be your sixth sense.
You let out a satisfied hum as you chewed, your heart beating out of your chest as your cheek was caressed, like you were someone’s favorite pet. It made you shudder, a warm feeling spreading through you.

If it was for Loki, he would’ve continued to feed these stray dogs till he died.
But unfortunately, life had something else planned for him, leaving him to simply watch as the dogs were one day gone, captured and taken to be put down. The person that did the heinous crime said that it was a necessary precaution.
Saying that the dogs were a hazard for the community.
It was the first and last time Loki felt so helpless, so utterly defeated seeing the whines and yowls coming from the van, possibly crying out for him.
He saw then that if he wanted to wholeheartedly have something, that he needed to detach them completely from the outside world. Isolated with only him as company.
It wasn’t like you needed anyone else anyway. You liked it here, even though the several deadbolts on his door may look a bit concerning to some.
It wasn’t like he didn’t trust you. It was everyone else he didn’t trust. The ones that are trying to take you away from him, the ones that think that your relationship is everything other than heavenly.
You had everything you could ever want in here, he provides everything for you, blesses you every day with his countless gifts and more.
He fed you the last piece of fruit before picking you up, walking to the bathroom with you to resume your activities in a different setting.
And you smiled, looking up at him with lovesick eyes as he opened the door to the master bath, wrapping your arms around his neck as you nibbled on the bloody wound from before.

It was way too hot.
Well, it really was, considering that it was peak summertime in paris, but you meant a different kind of heat.
It was a heat that was burning you, consuming you to your core.
It was the addictive kind, one that made you chase it like a junkie craving their fix.
And your fix was Julian Loki, France’s Golden Boy.
The prodigy who you were currently straddling, his upper body bare as you gnawed at his flawless skin. You were heaving, your eyes zeroing in on the crook of his neck. You were sweating, your clothes clinging to your body like a second skin as you panted, eploding for air before diving in again.
The bloodbag he caught you with laid far away, abandoned and forced to wittness the horrors you two were doing to each other.
But you couldn’t care less, if you were being honest— for your burning hunger was far greater than the feeling of uncomfort.
His blood was just too good.
You looked as the blood oozed out after your fangs were pierced his skin, making it errupt like a fountain just for you, the bright red color hypnotising you. You were convinced that it was the elixir of the gods, meant to be sucked out from the writhing body underneath, just for you.
You could feel your body revitalizing, a shudder running through your spine as you—
You let out a noise as he suddely roughly yanked your head back, making you yowl.
“Wha-hey-“
“Quiet. Be grateful that I even let you after that stunt you pulled.”
He spat out, shooting you a look that made you shrink back. He was heaving, and although he was very clearly excited, he was also still mad.
You couldn’t do anything other than sheepishly smile, licking the blood running down your chin before finally looking at the person you were currently straddling on the floor.
You two couldn’t be more different from each other.
Oh, how would the media react, seeing their precious golden boy be sucked dry of his blood by some loser in his penthouse suite?
— — —
It all began a few months ago, in spring.
Back when you were inflicted with vampirism.
Back then, you thought that your life would be over.
As if it wasn’t enough that you were an outcast, a loner in your school. You just had to be inflicted with vampirism too. You know, as a graduation gift.
And not only that, you had to be an absolute bitch of a vampire too. One that couldn’t drink blood because it found the one thing your body needed for survival absolutely nasty. Amazing. Great.
And if you were honest, you were ready to starve to death (it wasn’t like you would be missed), but then, you saw Loki.
And everything made sense again.
His blood was the only thing you could tolerate. The only blood you liked. The only blood you needed, no. Craved.
And he seemed to downright shine under your pathetic dependence on him.
Leading to the relationship you had now.
That single thought alone made you heady, eager to dive in again, only to be stopped by Loki flicking your forehead.
“Pervert,”
He simply commented, seemingly having seen your expression at the sight of his bloody neck, making you sheepishly laugh at him, not even trying to defend yourself.
How ironic of him. He was just as much of a pervert towards you as you were to him.
Evident by his reaction to having his blood sucked out and… all the other acts you two did outside of the vampire stuff.
You watch as he sighed, shooting you a look before reaching for a few tissues on the coffee table, wanting to clean his neck clean.
You panicked at the sight of that, reaching out to stop him, your sharp nails digging into his wrist.
“W-wait—“
You frantically say, mouth watering at the sight of the blood trickling down his upper body, making you shudder. You turn to him, gnawing at your lip as you mustered up the best kicked puppy look you could muster.
“C-can I…I can clean you…too…”
You stammered out, zeroing in on one thin stream of blood currently dipping down his exposed chest and further down.
God, he smelled so good.
You shook your head, attempting to look not as deranged as you actually were, meeting Loki’s honey colored eyes with your own in a pleading look.
He seemed to revel in that look though, as a satisfied smile was stretched across his face. He seemed to think for a while, enjoying the skittish way you were squirming around on his lap.
“I don’t know… aren’t you satisfied? I am your second meal after all, right?”
He was messing with you now, making a small part of you want to strangle him for real. But a bigger, more prominent part of you knew that you could never do that. Not to him.
So you shook your head frantically, knowing that your humiliation and submission was feeding into his ego, evident by the grin on his face growing wider by a fraction.
“N-no! I…that was a mistake, a mistake! I puked it out almost immediately too! I don’t drink blood from anyone else but you!”
You said, making the other laugh.
It sure was a contrast to the fury he showed a few hours before.
You cast a glance back to the bloodbag, wincing at the memory.
“Really?”
He said, before yanking your head towards him again. His eyes appeared golden now, pulsing with delight as he grinned mirthfully, reveling in your worship.
You nodded your head, letting out a whimpering noise, making Loki coo at you.
His grip softened, now petting your head in a mocking fashion, the condescension laid thick in his mannerisms.
“Poor thing… you can’t help it, huh?”
He said, making you nod, in turn making him laugh.
“God, you are stuuu~pid, you know that? Betraying me like that, hm?”
He cooed, making a part of you want to retort that attempting to drink out of a bloodbag rather than out of the crook of his neck was hardly a betrayal, but you decided against it.
You instead shook your head, powerless against the fact that the PSG’s prodigy had you wrapped you around his finger.
“It’s okay. I forgive you. I need to, right? You wouldn’t survive otherwise.”
He said, making your eyes sparkle. That was the only confirmation you needed. You leaned down, licking the stream of blood from all the way down his abs up to the wound of his neck, making him groan.
God. He was just as deranged and twisted as you.
He was panting again, cursing under his breath before petting your head again, praising you as you lapped up the blood, cleaning the wound you inflicted on him.
The heat returned, and you began to writhe against eachother again, the pounding of your heart ringing through your ears once again.
“F-fuck…”
He groaned, the pain making him dizzy, but also made him feel so, so good at the same time.
Because right now, he was god.
He was your whole universe, your lifeline, because without him, you wouldn’t survive. You were under his control, you were his.
He grinned as he felt you retreat, letting him breathe normally again. His vision was turning steady again, and he shot the overflowing bloodbag in the distance a triumphant sneer as if it was sentient.
How dumb of you to think that something like this would ever come close to the blood of your deity.
“Satisfied?”
He quiped at you, making you nod, thanking him for his blood, making him grin. He cooed at you, petting you again like you were some kind of pet. Well, he liked to treat you like one in a few contexts.
“Yeah?”
He said, before picking you up, setting you up before motioning you to follow.
“If you want to thank me properly, follow me.”
He said, walking towards the master bedroom, making you eagerly follow like always. You were lucky that you were nocturnal now.
love love LOVE ur Loki characterization its js so peak
I agree with the fact that he definitely wants to provide/take care of you, but I also think that he can be quite petty and childish when pushed too far bc of his massive ego
Imagine Loki liking manager!Darling or coach!Darling, and seething in jealousy whenever you give an ounce of your attention to someone else in the team (he doesn't understand why you want to treat everyone equally when he is clearly the best out of all of them)
So its js this endless loop of him trying to impress you but being dissapointed every time bc you can't show bias 😭
(Even better when the reader is totally oblivious to all of ts, just thinking of Loki as the hardworking young prodigy 💀)
okay i saw this on my desktop and was like Ah ! I'll Answer It In The Morrow Via Mobile Device ! and then it just wasnt there at all i had to check the ask inbox Manually bc i didnt get it on My Notifications Ughhgh !
anyway, i agree. i neglect the petty and sometimes youthfully childish part of loki in favor of the caretaking because thats the part my brain latched onto hardest BAHQHQHAH he Definitely is, as one can see. he holds grudges and cant take accountability when he did smth "wrong" and just blames the environment or other people on his mistakes, hes also ??? very funny the last chapter is gold to me "if this ends without me scoring... the earth will be sad, right?" I PEED MY PANTS
its undeniable he has a sense of entitlement, theres no world where he gets what he wants and if he doesn't, it's someone else's fault or "it'll be more fun if they fight back"
i like the idea of manager reader just doing their job and loki is rolling his eyes like Okay, Whatever . Thats What They're Here For and then he kicks the ball too hard and hits someone's head area and then gets even More mad because now you have to bandage them up and watch over them to make sure they're okay and now he's got all sorts of destructive urges (hugo tries to glaze loki but it makes him more upset because he wanted to hear You say those words Not Hugo)
i think that he doesn't understand, he does like realistically get that you're just trying to do what you came here for but he wants so bad to believe that what you're for is his company and when you do something that betrays that image, he'll train harder so he can crush his rivals, opponents, maybe teammates in hopes that it'll avert your eyes back to him
aside from being petty, i think he can be quite manipulative as well. he wouldn't hesitate playing with your feelings to get you to sympathize for him. if you're talking about other people or praise them, he'll pretend (he isn't) that he's hurt. isn't he clearly better than them? obviously you hate him personally. you dont? prove it. spend time with him after practice and prove to him that you like him. you do, right? you better.
after retiring as a superhero, you didn't expect to restart your career as a dispatcher— now you are stuck with a rag tag team of egotistical young assholes whose main mission it is to make your life harder than it already was.

“This is the worst.”
Kaiser seemed to be close to shitting himself in anger as he stood in front of you and Sae, a deep scowl on his face as his blue eyes glowered down on you two.
Sae was the first to speak up, sighing before giving the other a stern look.
“Listen, this is all part of the rehabilitation program. You need to learn how to work with people you don’t like, whether you like it or not,”
The older Itoshi-brother exclaimed, making the blonde roll his eyes.
“As if you even believe in me, you cyborg.”
“I don’t. I’m merely following protocol.”
“How sweet.”
Kaiser spat out in an overly sugary tone, before his face fell again.
He then looked at you, his gaze evil, mischivious and scary as always, making you shudder.
But then he grinned, making you realise that it could only get worse.
Like his situation right now.
You two were walking through Shinjuku, on your way to your designated location.
All the while you looked at him with a mix of astonishment and disgust as he downed another can of Cola.
It was his third, and also the third one you needed to pay for, with your money.
“Otherwise, I will send the video of you to Sae,”
He snickered as you stood before the convenience store a few minutes before, making you want to strangle him. This bastard.
But you didn’t, instead handing over your card, averting the smug look he shot you, before resuming your journey.
The case was in the famous Toho Cinema, where a villain planned to attack the theater at an unknown point the investigation team at the agency could not solve.
Leaving you two no other choice other than to sit in the cinema till you found a clue, undercover as regular cinema visitors.
“I hate this,”
Kaiser only mumbled as he smoked a cigarette with you in an alleyway before the cinema opened, looking at the flickering embers at the end of his cigarette bud like it personally offended him.
You rolled your eyes, lighting your second.
“Yeah, no shit,”
You mumbled, making the other frown.
“Maybe it would have been quite romantic if this mission were with that cyborg, huh?”
He spat out, making you huff. Does this guy have anything else to talk about?
“How original. This only works the first time, you know? That, and for bribery to get your disgusting energy drinks”
You shrugged, before taking a long drag, looking at the other.
“Bet you are just jealous that no one has these thoughts about you.”
That seemed to set the other off, judging from the fact that the athmoshere instantly changed. An uncomfortable silence filled the air, and for a second, you could swear that you saw something unfamiliar flicker in the blondes eyes.
It was like the raging ocean in his eyes trembled for just a second. It was as sad as it was scary to wittness.
But that was enough to make you backpedal immediately, gulping as you attempted to apologise.
“I— I didn’t mean-“
You began, but you were interrupted by Kaiser laughing, albeit the sound being hollow and without an ounce of humor.
He spat on his cigarette he let fall to the ground, watching as the glimmering end of it went out, before sneering at you, condescension laced in his tone.
“Oh please, was that seriously your comeback? No shit sherlock, I’m a villain. Of course I don’t get smothered in love, that is seriously the last thing that I want.”
He said, snickering. He took a step toward you, before raising a hand, flicking your forehead. You yelp, stumbling back.
“Hey!”
You exclaimed, much to Kaiser’s amusement. He just shrugged, not bothered at all, turning around to walk towards the cinema.
“What? Put out your cigarette, we need to get to moving, you addict.”
“I’m so not!”
“Keep telling yourself that.”
— — —
The first two movies you watched were in the biggest hall, the room filled with every seat occupied.
It were the newest blockbusters from hollywood, some remake and a superhero movie, creating all the buzz through social media.
And while the majority of the prople around you were eagrely following along the happenigs on the screen, you two sat next to each other in complete silence.
It was the same mainstream media you were all to familiar with, and you found your attention drifting towards the blonde beside you.
Kaiser didn’t seem to watch the movie either, and you caught him watching the people instead, looking at their reactions and amotions.
It was weird, seeing him look so… empty and silent, analysing the facial expressions of the others with an unreadable expression on his face.
Was it jealousy? Yearning? Something else entirely? You didn’t know.
After the second movie ended, you two stepped out of the theater, a moment of silence passing before you spoke up.
“…the two movies were shit.”
You simply exclaimed, making Kaiser hum. He was unusually quiet, shrugging his shoulders.
“The people seemed to like it though,”
He said, making you roll your eyes. You wouldn’t call yourself a film snob, but after working at a movie store, you amassed quite a wide range of knowledge.
“Yeah, because it’s what they are used to. They are only distracted by the spectacle of the budget.”
You say, before sighing,
“The plot had way too many holes to count, and they didn’t even cover the main themes shown in the souce media. And I mean, yeah, you don’t have to remake the movie scene for scene just with more pixels, but changing the main topics discussed? At this point, just make another movie. In fact, if this had a different name, I probably wouldn’t be so mad—“
You ramble on, making the other blink, before deadpanning. He shot you a look, before sighing.
“…wow. Well, guess that explains why Sae’s hard for you.”
He mumbled out, making you sputter, only now realising what you sounded like. You felt your ears burning, shame bubbling up, making the other snicker.
“…forget what I said. Lets go to another hall.”
“Can you say it again so I can record this too?”
“Absolutely not.”
— — —
The next few movies were a mix of indie films and various other genres. Other than the first two, these piqued your interest more, and you found yourself following along more often than not, finding some joy in the spectacle that was cinema.
And you noticed another change in Kaiser as well.
Because now, instead of looking at the other people in the hall, he turned his attention to you, watching your expressions.
Maybe it was because the halls were a lot more empty, but even when there were more people than you two in the theater, his eyes remained glued to you.
After a while, you turned towards Kaiser, an eyebrow raised.
“…why are you looking at me like that?”
You whispered to him, making the other frown.
A moment of silence passes as the sound of the movie filled the silence, before he answered.
“I just don’t get the hype around cinema. What is making you this excited?”
He simply mumbled out, making you raise an eyebrow, before you deadpan.
“…are you recording me again.”
“What? No,”
“Good,”
You sigh, before redirecting your gaze at the screen.
“Guess… it’s because of artistic expression, I guess?”
You say, tilting your head. You continue.
“Art and love is the thing with the most human essence, after all.”
“…”
Kaiser was silent, before also turning his head towards the screen.
“Is that so.”
He said, his tone empty. Another period of silence passed, before he spoke again.
“Guess that makes me really an Untermensch.”
“Excuse me?”
It was now your turn to turn, looking at him with a confused look. Kaiser seemedto redirect his gaze towards the screen at that, seemingly trying to take it all in before giving up.
“I don’t think I will ever…like movies,”
He said, sighing
“My asshole father was a director, before my mother left him and he became a villain. He made many movies,”
He said, slowly blinking.
“Maybe that’s the reason I don’t like movies. Every single one is reminding me of him.”
You remained silent at that, not really knowing what to make of it. Things like these are uncharted territory for you, since you didn’t really like to talk about your issues either.
“…guess that your old man wasn’t the best parent,”
You mumbled lamely, making the blonde next to you snort.
“He beat me, no shit sherlock,”
He huffed, letting out a laugh. You winced. Damn you for stumbling socially.
Another moment of silence follows, with both of your faces on the screen.
It was a coming-of-age movie this time, showing a teenager growing up and moving away from their toxic household to chase their dream of becoming an artist.
It was a sad film wrapped in a hopeful prompt, actively deceiving the audience into thinking that it will work out, only for the protagonist to fail miserably.
It was a critic on late stage capitalism and the patriachial society, and while the athmosphere might be a tad too melodramatic, you couldn’t get yourself to hate the movie
And despite Kaiser saying that he didn’t like movies, he seemed to not mind this one as well.
“…this is sad,”
You mumbled, making the other simply shrug, brushing it off.
“This is realistic.”
He mumbled, making you press your lips together.
You still felt awkward about the conversation from a few minutes before, turning around to look at the blonde. He had a distant look on his face, like he was contemplating something.
“Hey, Kaiser—“
“You know,”
He interrupted, a frown slowly forming on his face.
“I don’t really believe in this rehabilitation shit in the first place,”
He said, pressing his lips together as he looked off into the distance.
“I only joined so I could escape my deadbeat of a father. Good person my ass, I’m still the same fucking selfish person from when I was a villain pickpocketing off of people.”
“Kaiser…”
You began, but you couldn’t say anything before he resumed,
“My father was right. I could never be something more than an Untermensch.”
Kaiser mumbled, before his eyes flickered, a realisation seemingly crossing him.
“This is something I can’t control. I was born this way, the way that I am. And there is no rehabilitation for that.”
You frown, not really understanding what he is saying.
“What are you talking about? Are you saying that you can’t change for the better because you were born this way?”
You sigh, shaking your head.
“Sorry, but that is the corniest shit I’ve ever heard.”
“I’m not saying that, idiot,”
The blonde spat out, not bothering to look at you.
“I’m saying that some people are just destined to not get their happy ending, to escape…this. And I just realised that I’m one of them. And I’m tired of fighting against something that I can’t win against.”
He stood up at that, an air of emptiness around him before he makes his way towards the exit, much to your horror. He looked at the movie playing, before the ocean inside his gaze seemed to tremble again.
“That is just realistic.”
“Wha— hey, Kaiser!”
You exclaim, following after him.
“That is even cornier than what I assumed!”
You attempted to lighten the mood, to no avail. You watched as he exited the theater, and you momentarily caught up to his long strides in the lobby, grasping at his hand as a pleading expression crossed your face.
“What are you talking about? You are—“
“Let go off me.”
He hissed, looking at you with a level of disgust that made you flinch back. He roughly slapped your hand off of his, giving you one last venomous look.
“Quit trying to play the hero like you did when you were younger. It’s time to get it into your head that you can’t save anyone.”
He spat out, a look of of something else, something akin to… sadness crossing his face before whipping his head around, leaving you behind in the cinema.
— — —
He didn’t know how long he walked, before he leaned against a wall in an alleyway, taking a deep breath. He felt wrecked, his mind split between bitterness and the burning self-hate.
‘You didn’t even try’, a voice in his head said, reprimanding him.
To that, the blonde just cursed under his breath, running a hand over his tired expression. What does it matter? It would’ve been only a matter of time till Sae would fire him regardless.
He was just saving some time.
He sighed, deciding that he needed a smoke. He pulled out his packet, popping the box open.
His eyes twitched whe he saw that there was none left, making him want to just crumple down to the ground and die. This really is the worst.
He muttered curses, before deciding to use his last bit of money to get another pack, picking himself up from his miserable situation.
It was almost comical, how everything goes wrong for him since the beginning.
He moved to turn around, only to see someone holding a cigarette in front of him for him to take. Kaiser didn’t even need to look to see who it is.
“…what are you doing here. I told you to leave me alone.”
He muttered, refusing to take the cigarette. You simply shrugged, continuing to offer the stick to him.
“I think you need a smoking buddy more,”
You say, moving to lean against the opposite wall in the narrow alleyway. Kaiser refused for quite a while, before he wordlessly complied, taking the cigarette without much complaining.
The first minutes were spent in silence, only the flicking of the lighter filling the narrow path, followed by the sounds of inhaling, the smoke wafting though the air upwards.
“…”
You have thought for a while, as you were searching for Kaiser, what you would say to him when you would find him. But after a while, you decided that being authentic was the best way to get to him.
“I don’t think that you are an Untermensch, Kaiser.”
You say, making the other freeze.
“And you are not destined to be a villain either. Villains are made, not born.”
You take another drag,
“But so are heroes. And…I would like to help you realise that.”
You mutter, making the other scoff, averting his eyes.
“…hah. I don’t think that it is possible. Not… not after this,”
Kaiser said, clutching his cigarette like it was a lifeline. You frown, pressing your lips together.
“What are you saying? It’s not over yet.”
You say, making the other look at you, an incredulous look on his face.
“But it is. No one has faith in me, you don’t think I notice? They never did.”
“But I do.”
You protest, stepping on the bud to put it out. You look at Kaiser, whose eyes widen just a fraction.
“I really do. So don’t give up. You can…you don’t have to be go back to him anymore. I will do my best to prevent that, but for that to work, you must work with me, Kaiser. Please.”
You then smile sheepishly, scratching the back of your head before extending your hand for him to take.
“After all…I’m your dispatcher after all, right…?”
You say, quietly wincing at how corny it sounded. You two were not behaving like adults today. Kaiser seemed to have noticed it too, looking at you stunned, before snorting.
“…god…”
He chuckled, but it lacked the edge he had before. This time, his laughter sounded more amused, more genuine.
“…you are so embarrassing sometimes, you know?”
He said, a hand before his mouth to muffle his laughter, eyes crinkling in amusement. But you didn’t have it in yourself to be mad at his ridicule.
You were happy, seeing as you made a small step towards his betterment.
But this was all taken aback when you two heard screams coming from the distance, making you both whip your heads towards it. You gulp.
Oh shit, the cinema, you completely forgot.
You turn to Kaiser, who had a distraught look in his eyes. Determined, you smiled at him, urging him to take your hand.
Seems like you couldn’t take it slow after all.
“So? What are you waiting for?”
“Time to change your narrative, Kaiser.”

i think loki in a vampire au setting can either be the vampire and you're his pet human, or you're a vampire who's picky and gets icked by some blood so he tries to alter his diet to your tastes. also gets upset if you drink from someone else, directly or from a bloodbag

The Warden stood before the Doctor (or rather, thats what is left of him) in his office, pressing his lips together as he listened to his words, trying to block out the distant screams of the other employees down the hall.
“…what?”
He muttered, looking at the computer screen in front of him with wide eyes. The voice belonging to the screen seemed to be amused by his dumbfounded expression, his voice having an amused lilt to it as he talked.
“You heard me. I can help you.”
“How?! You’re stuck in there. You can’t—“
“My body’s here, sure. But my mind…”
The warden processes the words, not understanding, before a familiar gadget appeared on the screen.
“The Omni-Hand. If you give it to me, I can get you anywhere. I’ll have control over everything.”
The eccentric said, making the warden imagine the manic stare he would have if he still had his body.
“I can shut some doors, open others. I can make you a pathway that leads right to the exit. And all I need you to do is doing me one, tiny favour~”
The voice said, mischievousness laced in his tone. The Warden knew that tone all too well. It was the same tone Sawyer nursed before something goes horribly wrong.
The same tone when this selfish, selfish scientist sacrificed an innocent soul for his desires.
But what can he do? The more he hesitated, the higher the chance was that he was about to be eaten by one of the experiments.
He sighed, nodding, handing the Omni-Chip over.
“What do I need to do?”
He then asked, and he could hear the excitement bubble up in the Doctor’s voice, which was never a good sign.
“Take a piece of paper and begin to write”
The Doctor said,
“And deliver this letter to my bride.”
You first met Harley at the “Young Geniuses’ Program”. It was something the company Playtime.co established years ago when you were still a child, in hopes to encourage kids to become interested in science.
It just so happens that you were one of these children, alongside with Harley.
You quickly took a liking to the boy, considering that he was the same age, and also as enthusiastic about science as you. The fact that he was prickly and mean didn’t mind you at all.
“This is fun, right?”
You said to the boy at the end of the first day, after bidding goodbye to Elliot, the man you three did some experiments with.
The boy only shot you an annoyed look, not bothering to even bid you goodbye before departing.
But that didn’t deter you at all. Quite the opposite in fact, making you even more curious about your fellow research partner.
And after a few more days of bothering him at the program, he finally confronted you about your odd behavior.
“Why do you constantly try to befriend me? I don’t do friendships, you know.”
The boy said, adjusting his hair after you playfully ruffled them after another successful experiment. He huffs, glaring at you like you were some sort of pest.
You didn’t feel insulted. He looked at all the others the same way.
“You are annoying. Go play with your friends. You seemed to have plenty of them at the program.”
Harley spat out, turning around to leave. You hum, processing his words for a while before answering.
“Maybe I do,”
You mused, shooting him a grin.
“But you are like, way more interesting than all the other kids at the factory, Harley. You are a total mad scientist, and I like that~”
“…”
To that, the boy just looked at you stunned, at a complete loss for words.
In the beginning, he tried to look at you in disgust.
But for some reason, he just couldn’t. In the back of his head, he faintly registered his ears growing warm, his pulse quickening at your praise.
“…You really think that?”
He muttered under his breath, making you blink, before busting out laughing.
“Hahaha, look at your flustered face! You even take the title “mad scientist” as a compliment! You really are special, huh?”
You sputter, wiping away a tear. You then smiled, taking a tentative step forward to look the other in the eyes.
“But I do too. So, lets be research partners, ‘kay?”
———
That was the first conversation you had with your fiancé.
It was a conversation you always recalled fondly, back when both of you still had that childhood wonder.
And although you mellowed out over the years, taking on the more responsible path of becoming a pediatrician, your fascination and love you held for the enigma that was your lover never wavered.
And his devotion to you hasn’t either, despite many saying that he was a cold, arrogant man during his work hours.
Towards you, he was never that cruel like the others described. He would never, not your Harley.
You sat at the kitchen table in your apartment, trying not to think about it, pushing the feelings down that threatened to bubble up again.
But at the sight of the wall calendar, you couldn’t help your eyes from glazing over with tears.
It has been a year since your fiancé has disappeared.
It had been a few days after the proposal too, making it all the more devastating.
It was like the universe was laughing at you, doing its best to make this time of the year as miserable as possible.
And the worst part was that it was working.
You still wore the engagement ring. It was a stupid, delusional part of you that still clung to the idea that your lover wasn’t dead.
That someday, you will reunite with him, and that you two will get married, just like he had promised you.
With you in a fluttering white dress and him in a sharp suit, somewhere isolated where you two could bask in each others love.
Because Harley was anything but a liar, especially towards you, his precious research partner. You let out a humorless laugh at that.
It was ridiculously romantic, calling you by the title you two referred each other when you two were eight. It just made the long history the two of you had that more apparent.
And it always made your heart fluter, before it painfully squeezed after he mysteriously disappeared.
You gnawed at your lip, refusing to face the truth, the reality.
The reality that your research partner was most likely dead, and that you will never get your wedding.
It was a thought that kept you awake at night, and one that you mulled over multiple times, hoping that the next time you thought about it wouldn’t be as painful.
You were proven wrong time and time again.
And over time, you realized that it wasn’t worth it, lest you wanted to wallow in your self-pity again. So you don’t, after a while.
You blinked your tears away before deciding to go out for a smoke, attempting to drown your sorrows in the comforting lull of nicotine filling your lungs.
You had a balcony in your apartment you could also smoke on, but you never did, not without Harley.
It was almost a sacred ritual you two had, when you two would wind down after a busy week, sharing a cigarette between kisses as you nursed a glass of wine.
Sitting there alone felt just wrong.
You made a short walk around the block, feeling a bit better by the time you returned to your apartment complex. The lively summer atmosphere lifted your spirits, seeing all the people outside, now that it was getting warmer.
You were about to ascend the stairs to your apartment, when you noticed mail poking out of your mailbox.
And without thinking, you gingerly extracted the single letter from the box, humming as you went back home.
Little did you know what this letter will do to you.
—
You soon sat at your desk, ragged breaths escaping you as your eyes read the words written on the paper again and again.
‘Your lover is alive. Come to the Playtime.co factory if you want to see him again.’
These were the only words written on the letter, but one that burned themselves into your mind, nonetheless.
Your lover is alive.
Your lover is alive.
Your Harley was alive.
These words anchored itself into your mind to drown you, making you grasp for air. For rationality. For anything to ground you so you wouldn’t leave anything behind to pursue a possible illusion.
A mere hoax, taking advantage of your grief.
That surely must be a cruel joke.
The factory closed down a few days ago anyway, so you’d have to break in and enter, which shaking the very foundations of your reputation if you get caught.
Maybe it was some bitter colleagues of Harley playing a cruel prank on you.
Surely that is it.
Yeah.
———
Luckily, the factory wasn’t that tightly closed off.
With a bit of effort, you found a hole in the fence you could squeeze yourself through, the big factory looming over you.
The sun was beating down on you, making you sweat, coupled with the fact that you were really doing this.
You surely must be going insane.
But could anyone really blame you? This was your beloved fiancé, after all.
You go on.
The first thing you notice as you approached the entrance was the stench of blood, the irony smell being one you are all to familiar with.
And it alarms you.
Just what happened here? You only know that the factory needed to close down after a “workplace incidence”. Further than what the media said, you didn’t research further.
You didn’t have the heart to do that, not wanting to hear anything about the workplace that took your lover and swallowed him whole.
But now, dread filled you, with every step you took towards the factory.
Something was horribly wrong with this place.
It was something you always thought in the back of your mind, but you didn’t say anything, seeing as Harley was so fond of this place and his work.
The stench of blood only increased as you stepped into the lobby.
But now, it was apparent.
It was dark and quiet, but all your senses were screaming at you to leave.
And at one point, when the breathing became too loud, when the common sense inside of you were pulling you towards the exit, you complied.
You hastily grabbed onto the handle of the exit, leading you back to the sun beating down on you, making you dizzy.
Back to the people who were outside, now that the weather was getting warmer.
Back to your mundane, but secured life, leaving all of this behind, as a thing in the past.
And over time, you were sure that you would move on. You would maybe move to another city, and build up a separate life there, leaving your wedding and disappeared fiancé behind.
Maybe you would even get another wedding with another partner. You would still get that part of your dream, just not with Harley.
But that one part destroyed you.
Because you wanted Harley.
It was the romantic in you, speaking into your ear like a tempting devil.
That you could still get Harley.
That it was your duty, as his lover, as his bride.
Leaving now would mean to betray him, leave the future that you two could see in the wafts of your cigarette smoke.
You take a shaky breath, thinking back on a cold fall night where you jokingly asked him what he would do if you died, still tipsy over the nth glass of wine you were nursing.
And without stuttering, your partner answered:
“If that would ever happen, I would preserve your corpse till I find a cure to resurrect you. I would try till I die.”
That made you giggle back then, joking about how disgusting and morbid it was, to live with a corpse in the house.
But now, this single conversation was the very thing that tipped the scale.
You are not as insane as Harley, for he was the most insane man you’ve ever met.
But the fact that he was your fiancé meant that you weren’t that mentally stable either.
You stop, taking a deep breath before taking out your mini flashlight, turning it on before pressing on, a desperate, foolish kind of lovesickness being your fuel.
The blood drowning the facility doesn’t look like blood when you have rose-tinted glasses on anyway.
You only nearly miss the screen at the lobby flickering, a pixelated eye watching you intently, burning a hole into your form with an alarming level of quiet ecstasy.
His bride was stepping into the aisle.
———
After wandering through the facility for who knows how long, your flashlight finally gave out.
You knew that you should’ve brought a backup.
The facility was incredibly dark, and you quickly got lost, a consequence after wandering around mindlessly.
And you attempted to retrace your steps multiple times, but for some reason, you could never open the doors you came through, the door sensors seemingly not working the other way around.
How odd.
You stepped in front of another door, which opened without hesitation the moment you approached. It was weird, some doors opened while others didn’t open at all.
Some opened only after a while, almost like it was working on its own.
Or like someone was consciously leading you somewhere.
But that was silly, right?
You were taken out of your trance as you noticed something moving from the corner of your eye, making you flinch.
You whipped around, eyes frantically darting around, searching for the thing. What was that? A rat? A stray cat?
You gulped, your breath hitching as you noticed the same thing moving through some rubble. You freeze, panic filling you. That wasn’t a rat.
It was way bigger, and faster. And although it was dark, you could make out a flurry of intense colors. Almost like a children’s toy.
Only then did it fully register to you. You were actively trapped in the facility, with no way out.
The other doors only led you deeper into the factory, pulling you deeper into its webs.
By the next sighting, you began to run towards another door, acting as an art trigger.
You needed to leave. There was something wrong here, you needed to alert someone, the police—
You couldn’t even reach the end of your train of thought before the door closed shut, making you bang against the metal barricade in panic.
That was it. You were going to die here.
You felt the creature creeping closer, not bothering to hide anymore. And the last thing you remembered was the flurry of colors lurching at you, knocking you out as your head hit the concrete, knocking you out.
A broken scream for help was the only thing that you cried out before falling limp.
And as your unconscious body laid down on the ground, the creature let out a satisfied sound akin to a purr, curiously sniffing your scent.
His master was right. His bride really had a certain kind of warmth exuding from her.
At the thought of his master, he seemingly remembered his task, his eyes dilating as his face stretched apart into two halves’, revealing multiple pairs of razor-sharp teeth, drool escaping from its starving mouth.
But although it looked like it, this human was not for eating.
This human was for the doctor. A special human just for his master. One that he talked about constantly, one that was part of his main goals.
He lowered his head to grab the person by the nape, but he was interrupted by a stern demand to freeze.
The lion-like creature immediately complied, shutting his mouth and ignoring the pain coursing through his body as the many teeth dug into his bloody flesh.
Only a moment later, a figure emerged, its lanky form concealed by a cloak as he walked towards your body, the one eye displayed on the screen menacingly glowing as he reprimanded the giant lion.
“By the order “be gentle with her”, I didn’t mean to break her neck by gnawing at it with your teeth,” he sternly told the toy, making it shrink back, terrified of the robot skulking towards you.
Even more so as he watched the Doctor taking a moment to just…watch you. It was horrifying, seeing the doctor, usually so stern and uptight, visibly relax.
But then again, it was you. His darling. How could he not?
Its robotic hands reached out to you like a devotee to their goddess, brushing your cheek in reverence before picking you up, your limp form cradled in his embrace.
It was one that was all too familiar. One that he missed way too much.
With a simple flick on his finger, he commanded Yarnaby to follow, making him trot behind you two as you descended into the depths of the factory, down to your new home.
He even gave you your own room in the prison, so it couldn’t be that bad. After all, you were reunited with him.
He let out a quiet melody resembling the wedding march as he swiftly descended, a self-satisfied shine in his eyes as he cradled you gently.
He couldn’t wait to get back. There wan’t much time either, for he had many things to do before you wake up.
And although he wasn’t the best in making things look pretty, he would try his best for you. That’s the least you deserve, after all.

Sae shot you a worried look right before dispatching you off with Shidou, his eyebrow furrowed as he examined you like a overbearing mother about to send their kid off to a field trip.
“If Shidou brings you any kind of trouble, do not hesitate to call me, okay?”
He says, before turning to the other beside you, a shit-eating grin on his face as he looks at Sae with a mirthful expression.
“And you—“
Sae sighs, before his gaze glowered down on him.
“If you do anything reckless, I won’t hesitate to fly over there in the suit and dropkick your lizard-ass down a building.”
He treathened, eyes sharp, although Shidou didn’t seem to mind at all. In fact, you could see his eyes sparkling, revelling in the staredown between him and Sae.
“Really? Sae-chan, I didn’t know that you could be so forward-“
He chirped in a sing-song voice, before moving to embrace the other man, just for Sae to shut the door in his face.
Meanwhile, you just stood there, sweatdropping. The dynamic between those two surely was… interesting. Shidou seemed to notice your gaze, cue to him dreamily sighing, smiling in utter satisfaction.
“Hah… isn’t Sae so sexy when he is all riled up? It just keeps me going, you know?”
Shidou said, making you cringe slightly. Even more so when Loki just happened to pass by when Shidou spoke, making the other quirk an eyebrow, shooting you a look.
You recoiled at that, only mustering up an awkward nod, whispering a “please ignore him”, before pulling Shidou out of the office, avoiding Kaiser’s raised eyebrow as well.
You sigh, watching as Shidou hummed walking beside you on the way to the rain station, the sun still rising as you two made your way to the intended location of the case.
This will be a long day.
— — —
You eventually arrived at your location, an abandoned building in the middle of nowhere in the outskirts of Tokyo, where apparently a wanted criminal has been hiding.
You sigh, looking across the abandoned place, a wistful expression on your face. A part of you always got sad, watching these places near the countryside getting abandoned, with no one else to take care of it.
Shidou perked up, seemingly noticing your melancholy, curiously circling you.
“Hey, hey, hey… what’s up, boss? Bored?”
He mused, before sighing.
“I get it. I wanna fight too~”
Shidou said in a sing-song voice, seemingly lamenting the fact that he couldn’t go wild just yet.
You shook your head at that, pursing your lips.
“…no, it’s not that. Seeing abandoned places like this makes me a bit sad. Makes me wonder what happened of the orphanage me, Sae and Rin grew up.”
You muttered, making Shidou perk up. At the sound of getting to know more of Sae, he eagerly crept closer, a mischievious smile on his face.
“Eh? Sae as a…an adorable little child? Do tell me more, boss~!”
He chirped, sitting down on a tree stump beside him, like a child by a fireplace.
“Sae told me about the orphanage, but he never went into detail with it…”
He pouted, making you raise an eyebrow.
“Sae told you about his childhood? That… is new,”
You said, blinking. It was pretty rare for the older itoshi brother to open up. It was a similarity you two shared, being seen as the older, responsible people you tended to hide your vulnerability.
“What do you mean?”
“I’m saying that Sae isn’t the type of person to say such sensitive information. The fact that he did must mean that he likes you a lot.”
You say, before noticing the others cheeks darkening. Frantically, not wanting to send false hope, you shook your head.
“Ah— maybe… I don’t know if he likes you in that way—“
You say, making Shidou gasp, slapping your shoulder in a faux offended manner.
“You big meanie! Boss, you are just dangling the fact that Sae-chan likes you more than me right in front of my face, don’t you?!”
“Ow, ow, ow, hey, I’m so not doing that!”
You retorted hopelessly, fending him off with all your might.
Damn, these hybrids sure are strong…
But hearing what he had said, you sighed.
Sae likes you.
You groan, slumping down, holding your face in your hands.
You recalled the awkward conversation you had with Sae in the office, making you want to sink down into the ground even more.
“Man… I… I don’t even know what to do now. I’m behaving so weirdly around him…”
You blurt out, making the other snort.
“What? Are you in high school, boss?”
Shidou snickered, making you glare at him. You then gulp, gnawing at your lip.
“I— maybe? How should I know? I never went to high school anyway….”
You mutter, scratching the back of your head. You look up, gazing through the clusters of an abandoned building ahead with an unreadable expression.
You then sunk your head again, watching as a line of ants crawled by your feet.
“I feel so pathetic. It’s like I am an imposter imprisoned in a human body.”
Muttering that, you huff, suddenly feeling frustration bubbling up inside of you.
“Boss…”
Shidou said, attempting to soothe your worries, to no avail.
He could only watch as you pressed your lips together, standing up and lighting a cigarette in midst of your newfound stress.
“…forget it. I can’t even process something as human as love. Let alone feel it. I don’t even know if I qualify as a human anymore.”
You felt absolutely worthless. You were once so capable, could do far more complicated tasks with ease, and now you were stumbling at the mere motion of someone having feelings for you.
You watched as smoke wafted away through the wind from your cigarette, and you took another long drag as you contemplated your recently noticed stunted mental developement.
And the worst part was that you knew exactly from where your dilemma comes from.
You guessed that being abused all throughout your delevopmental phases meant that your mind didn’t have any time to focus on, you know, developing your mind— rather focussing on survival and blocking out traumatic memories.
But despite knowing that, you didn’t know how to fix it, which is honestly worse than being ignorant to everything, in your humble opinion.
“You know,”
Shidou chirped up, flicking your cigarette off your hands, making you momentarily scowl at the loss of your cancer stick.
“Maybe you got it all wrong. Maybe you even like Sae-chan a lot, and you just don’t realise it,”
He said, ruffling your hair.
“Sometimes, people don’t notice that. And judging from your red face right now, it seems like you don’t really seem disgusted by the thought of Sae liking you~”
He teased, making you instantly heat up even more. His words grounded you a bit, making you think that maybe, you aren’t a pathetic, stunted alien, before a smirk danced its way onto his face.
“And you know one of the most effective ways to see if you like someone back?”
Shidou snickered, pointing at the abandoned site in front of you two.
“It’s if you still think about that person when you are in really, really high danger!”
— — —
You knew it was a bad idea, being pulled into one of the abandoned buildings by Shidou, instead of luring the criminal out.
But alas, here you two were, walking through the ruins, doing his cheeky little science experiment on wether or not you liked his crush or not.
He dubbed it the “Love Experiment”.
Shidou seemed to be thrilled, humming a tune as he stopped every few metres or so to ask you wether or not you were thinking about Sae or not, considering you were kind of in a dangerous situation right now.
“You realise that when you mention Sae every few seconds that I will be automatically thinking about him, right?”
You huff out, growing irritated about Shidou’s constant questioning about the older Itoshi brother. He stops, turning around, blinking.
“But are you thinking about him, though?”
“I’m thinking about calling him to dropkick you in his suit”
“[ ], I wasn’t aware that you were such a good wingman~”
“You—“
You dropped it after a while, seeing no real help coming from this weird love triangle you have going on with you, Shidou and Sae, instead focusing on the task at hand.
You two stop when you saw some movement around the corner, making you freeze.
“You think this is the guy?”
You whispered, turning around to Shidou, who licked his lips in anticipation.
“Yuuupp, I think we will have some explosive action pretty soon~”
He says, not bothering to stay quiet like you, his eyes glowing as he transformed into his hybrid form.
“Ah— maybe we should-“
You say, but to no avail. Shidou charged, his tail and wings making a deafening sound as he attacked the startled person, his dragon-like features glinting under the light.
“Ah! Non, wait!”
The unknown figure dodged the attack, making Shidou ram against a wall, a painful yowl escaping him as he headbutted into the concrete.
Gasping, you turned to the person, locking eyes with pale yellow ones, looking shakily at you. Gulping, you pulled out a taser provided by the agency, lifting it up to the young boy.
“Who are you? You are in restricted teritory”
You say, your tone firm despite a sprinkle of fear rooting itself into you.
Because despite Shidou often goofing around, he was also an experienced and fast fighter.
And the fact that the boy managed to dodge that meant that there was no way that he was an ordinary person.
“P-please don’t use this, mademoiselle!”
The boy said at the sight, keeping a wary gaze on Shidou who was slowly coming back to his senses, making himself ready for another attack on the blonde.
“Why shouldn’t I?”
You say, narrowing your eyes, watching as both you and Shidou planned to attack from opposite sides.
The boy grinned in response, a toothy smile spreading across his face.
“Because I’m a superhero too!”
He declared, showing off his badge glinting beneath the light.
“My name is Charles Chevalier, from the Hero Agency PXG in Paris!”
“…”
“…”
Silence stretched through the abandoned building for a while, before Shidou grinned, readying himself.
“Hah! As if I believe such crappy lies—“
He said, about to charge, before you interrupted him, lowering your weapon.
“No, no, no, the badge seems legit Shidou, leave it,”
You said, eliciting a whine from your partner. You approach the younger boy, raising an eyebrow.
“And what are you doing here, if I may ask?”
You say, assessing him carefully. Charles grinned, a smug smile crossing his face.
“I came to Japan to see my co-worker! His name is Julian Loki, he temporarily works for the company Blue Lock.”
He says, making both of you perk up.
“Loki?” “That’s—“
“We are also Blue Lock agents!”
Shidou chirped, suddenly very amicable and excited, a stark contrast to his demeanor not even a minute ago. Charles seemed to light up at that, his eyes shining.
“Really? I originally came to just visit him and have fun, but on the way to the office I got distracted by the villain attack~”
He pouted, crossing his arms.
“But I met you guys, which is great! You guys can bring me to him after this, right?”
The blonde chirped, grinning. You smiled at that, relishing the small moment of calmness in this tense environment. You nodded, with Shidou giving an enthusiastic thumps up.
“We can do that, Charles.”
— — —
You three bonded over the search, more so than you would have liked to admit. And Shidou didn’t pester you about this weird love experiment either, which was a plus.
Turns out, that Shidou and Charles worked great with eachother, Charles Demon summon being a great support for the dragon hybrid.
You could only sigh, the sight of them being all buddy-buddy together endearing you. And Charles seemed to enjoy your company as well, jumping up and down around you as you permitted him to try a cigarette.
(He coughed and handed it back to you after one drag, making Shidou double over with laughter)
“Say, Charles,”
Shidou hummed,
“You must be very close to Loki if you come all the way to Japan for him~”
He said, making the other scrunch his nose in disgust.
“Ehhh? Loki is great, but not that great, you know~”
He said, shrugging his shoulders.
“I mainly came to visit him because he said that he had made a friend of all things in Japan! Really, I’m more interested meeting that person…”
Charles mused, making you freeze. Something about Loki actually calling you his friend made your heart flutter. But you decided to not say anything, lest you wanted to deal with a very excited Shidou and Charles—
“Wait, Loki talked about [ ]-chan?!”
Shidou grinned, wriggling with his eyebrows. Charles stops. You stop. Charles head turns to you, before his eyes began to sparkle.
You curse Shidou under your breath.
“Shidou, how do you even know—“
“Because he talked to me about you this morning, of course!”
“Ehhh?! Really?!”
Charles seemed to go off on that, circling you excitedly.
“No wonder you are so cool! You are that elusive friend Loki talked to me about!”
“Why is everyone talking about me…”
You mutter under your breath, before Charles slings an arm affectionately around you.
“You should come with us to France! We’re like, totally so cool over there! I’m sure that would makeLoki very happy~”
He says, making Shidou laugh, ruffling your hair.
“[ ] -chan, you are so popular! Forget Sae-chan huh? You can have Loki instead!”
“Whaaat?! The Sae itoshi likes [ ] too?! Man, you really are a charmer, huh!”
You groan, shaking your head. It would only be a matter of time till the whole office knows, you are sure of that. You shake your head, detaching yourself from Shidou and Charles after a bit of wriggling.
“Wha—wait a minute guys!”
You stop them, your cheeks burning. You felt embarrassed, and lest you want to stop feeling embarrassed any longer, you needed to set a few things straight.
“First off: Loki and I are friends, nothing more, nothing less. So don’t get any ideas—“
You declare, glaring down at Charles and Shidou, who both emitted a dejected “boo~”
“—But we dont make a big deal out of it! It’s fine, we are all adults here, I’ll handle it when… the time comes.
And third: I can’t go to france because…”
You gulp, feeling your ears burning a tad bit more before you grit out the next few words.
“B-because….maybe I also like Sae back…”
“You do?!”
Shidou said the moment you finnished talking, making the other blonde also perk up. You frantically shake your head, face burning.
“I don’t know, whenever you asked me about Sae I thought of him!’
“But you said that the experiment was stupid!”
“How should I know what a stupid Love Experiment is?!”
“Wait, you guys are doing Love Eperiments here in Japan? Do one with Loki, [ ]!”
— — —
It was the early evening when you three arrived back at the office.
Somehow, some way, after a lot of bickering and eventual fighting, you three managed to capture the criminal hiding in the abandoned site.
The officers from the police probably thought that the villain was the reason for your utterly exhausted expression at the end of it, but the villain turned out to be mediocre at best:
Shidou and Charles demolished him in a matter of seconds, before going back to bothering you, the real reason why you were so tired.
At the office, you and Shidou reported back to Sae, who looked more than confused and, admittedly, concerned of the fact that you couldnt look him in the eye, before reuniting Charles with Loki.
Loki pulled on Charles’ cheek as he apologised to you, a sheepish smile on his face as he thanked you for bringing the blonde to Blue Lock.
“I hope he didn’t gave you too much trouble,”
He says, making you sweatdrop.
only if he knew.
You said that it wasn’t too much trouble, but it seems like he knew that you were lying, because he came back to the office as you were doing overtime on some reports, plopping a bag of takeout on your desk.
“A small thank you for keeping your eyes on Charles,”
Loki said, sitting down beside you on a spare chair.
“Can I help?”
He offered, seeing you tired expression. You contemplated for a bit, before smiling.
“That would be nice, thanks.”
You say, before another, way too familiar voice chirps in from behind the door.
“Whaat, Loki offering his help to [ ]? Oh, you two must be really good friends~”
“Wha— Charles, I told you to wait in the car!”
But before he could say anything, both Shidou and Charles bust through the door, both with shit-eating grins on their faces. You freeze at the sight, knowing that nothing good could come from those two.
“What are you two…”
“Three, you mean.”
Another voice says, a scowl on his face as he sat down on the chair next to you, his blue highlights glinting beneath the dim light. He glared at your dumfounded face, narrowing his eyes.
“What? I was forced to do overtime just like you by that damn younger eyelash brother.”
He spat out, making you gulp, thinking of Rin.
“Right…”
“We came to know the result of the Love Experiment!”
“They have Love Experiments in Japan?”
“The fuck is a love Experiment?”
Charles blurted out in front of Loki and Kaiser, making you face palm.
“Guys, can you not—“
“It was a test we made wether or not Sae-chan’s feelings for [ ] are reciprocated!”
The young boy says without a care in the world, oblivious to the stunned silence that followed.
“…Really?”
Kaiser said, suddenly very interested. He pulled his phone out, pointing it at your face. Loki only smiled, still a bit clueless about what is going on. You stared into the camera, deadpanning.
“What..why are you recording?”
“To have some blackmail material,”
“Can you not?”
“Never.”
He just smirked, watching as both Charles and Shidou pulled and tugged at you for the results. You just sighed, knowing that there was no way to escape this situation.
You eye the takeout, telling yourself that this will be the reward after the humiliation ritual.
“I…”
You thought back, back to your reunion with Sae. How it warmed your heart, seeing him again, after all these years. You thought back on the restaurant.
You thought back when you two were experimented on.
You thought back on when you two were kids, playing together with Rin.
Before you knew it, your heart raced, a strange fluttering sensation spreading through your stomach.
You gulped.
“There… there is a possibility I might…”
“You what.”
“Oh shit—“
Kaiser couldn’t stop grinning at the fiasco, his phone camera panning over to the door, the handle already halway corroded due to Rin’s hand gripping it tightly.
You were frozen in place, processing how this situation got even worse.
At this point, Kaiser couldn’t even hold his laughter.
‘Well, I guess you two are pretty similar…”
He snickered, fully aware that he was fanning the flames. Meanwhile, Rin was barely holding himself back from corroding you into dust, his hands itching.
“You…”
He spat out, glaring you down.
“Hands. off. nii-chan.”
“Oohh, Rin-chan is setting a state~ment~! “
“Same goes for you, Shidou!”
Rin exclaimed, lunging at him if it wasn’t for Charles interference.
“Ah! Don’t be heartbroken [ ], Loki and France is still hot on the market!”
“…! Charles, w-what are you saying!”
And with that, the whole office errupted in chaos. And you just sat there admidst all that mess, looking at Kaiser with a look that could kill, the takeout long forgotten as you prompty gave up on getting any work done that day.
— — —
The next morning, you stood in Sae’s office again, this time with Rin standing beside his brother, scrutinizing you with his eyes. Both of you had eyebags from previous night, the overtime having stretched over many hours after the initial fiasco.
It had been horrible trying to wrangle Shidou, Rin and Charles, but somehow, in some way, you and Loki accomplished that with your combined four hands (and a few fists).
It was truly an awful night, you thought.
But then, you look back on your time at the movie store, at how you would be sitting there alone, till closing time.
Just you, alone with your thoughts.
The past eating away at you.
And then you would realize that yesterday was so awful that you couldn’t even think about these things.
And suddenly, yesterday wasn’t so bad after all.
After you and Loki calmed down the three troublemakers (and confiscated Kaiser’s phone), they helped you and Kaiser with the paperwork (although Kaiser seemed to want to strangle charles multiple times).
There was even a break at midnight, Loki having somehow acquired more takeout for all you to share.
You six sat on the floor for an hour or two after that, mostly bickering and talking with each other as you devoured the food laid in the middle, talking about everything and anything.
It was loud. It was wild. But it was an unconvenience for company, so you didn’t mind.
And after a while, the group dynamic loosened.
Maybe it was the food.
Maybe it was the music from Shidou’s phone playing some random playlist, forgotten and blendng into the athmosphere after you two debated over the best movie soundtrack, showing eachother your pick and having the others rate it.
Maybe it was when you lended Kaiser your lighter when you six went out for a “walk for better digestion”, smoking a cigarette as you two watched Charles and Shidou race eachother, only for Loki to beat them both.
Maybe it was when Rin decided to reluctantly help you after all of you made it back to the office.
“Rin… are you really that against me and… Sae?”
You remembered asking at the late hour, the background noise of Kaiser and Shidou fighting over which font to use filling the usual tense silence.
Rin’s eyes narrowed, before sighing.
“Yes. If you are not absolute certain that you want to be with my brother, I won’t take any chances.”
He said, and that was the end of that conversation.
And you get it. It was only natural to have that reaction. So, till you sorted out your feelings, you decided to stay away from Sae.
You looked at the two remaining files, knowing what you’ll choose next:
Aiku’s file
Kaiser’s file

It was getting dark by the time you and Loki made it back to the office.
“Well…”
Loki started, gathering his stuff from the office, slinging a small bag over his shoulders. He held a polite smile, one that you thought held more sincerity in contrast to your first meeting.
“Good work today,”
You finished his sentence, gathering your stuff as well. He smiled again, and you two began a silent descend down to the the ground floor.
You bid him your final goodbye when his driver showed up, pulling up in a sleek, luxurious car with tinted windows, when he nodded you to get in.
“You want me to give you a ride? He can drive you home, if you want,”
He offered, making you sheepishly smile, scratching the back of your head.
“Ah—very kind of you, “
You said, before shaking your head,
“But I’m actually meeting up with a friend right now for dinner, so…”
You mentioned, referring to the message from Sae. To that, Loki only nodded in understanding.
“I see. Then good evening to you , [ ]”
He says, the door of the car closing shut before the engine started, silently driving off and blurring into the glimmering city streets before you.
— — —
The car ride was silent, an ambient jazz music playing in the background as his piercing golden eyes stared off into the distance.
The silent was only interrupted as an obnoxious ringtone pierced through the serenity, making the passenger immediately sigh, knowing who it was.
After much contemplation, he accepted the call, a deadpan expression on his face as he held the phone up to his ear.
“Charles. Is something wrong?”
“Ah! Now I want to hang up, now that I think about it!”
A youthful voice pierced through, a snicker escaping him. Loki sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose at the, admittedly, exhausting nature of his contrarian teammate back in france.
“What is it? Or have you only called me to pester me?”
“No, no, of course not!”
The other retorted, a faux offended gasp escaping him before he snickered again.
“I just wanted to check up on you, see how you are doing! How is japan treating you?”
Charled asked, probably eating a macaron right now, judging from the muffled tone of his voice, quiet hums of delight escaping him.
“Japan is fine. It’s nothing to write home about…”
Julian answered, before his eyes softened a bit, a smile gracing his face.
“I made a friend today,”
He said., followed by sputtering from the other side, like he couldn’t believe it.
“Wha-wha-what?!”
The other end of the line excidetly exclaimed, exstatic.
“You? The Julian Loki found someone worthy to be his friend? Since when? How did this happen?!”
He exclaimed, practically screaming into his ear, making the other wince, furthering the distance of his phone to his ear.
On the other side, the teenager sprung up from his seat, seemingly jumping around excidetly.
“That’s it! I want to see your precious friend now too! I’ll ask PXG for a vacation right away!”
He said, humming a tune, causing the other to freeze.
“What? Charles, you don’t have to—”
But before he could do anything, the boy already hung up. The other only sighed, slumping back.
He knew what was about to come if Charles decided to come here.
“I’m so sorry, [ ]…”
— — —
You arrived at the restaurant a bit later then expected, leaving you panting as you finally stepped into the establishment.
You were led to the same lounge as before, and you quickly fixed up your outfit before stepping in with an apologetic smile. But before you could say anything, you froze.
“Sae I’m so sorry, I got held up by—“
You stopped when you locked eyes with the person next to him, a scowl on his face as he sat next to his older brother, glaring you down.
You immediately recognised him. How could you not? You three were bascially inseperable.
“R-rin?!” You exclaimed. Making the others scowl deepen. He only scoffed, turning his head .
“And here I thought that you have abandoned us again. You are pretty good at that, after all.”
He said, making you immediately flinch. You only awkwadly laugh, scratching the back of your head.
“N-no, I didn’t—“
“Woah, is this former cyborg 2.0 you mentioned, Sae-chan? The big boss is finally here!”
Another voice boomed through the lounge, his blonde bleached hair glinting under the dim light, the hot pink ends of his put up in an eccentric spiky hairdo.
Rin immediately redirected his anger to the stranger opposite of Sae, his reaction reminding you of a hissy cat.
“Don’t you address nii-chan that way you—“
He spat out before being interrupted by Sae, shutting them both up.
“Both of you, shut up. Rin, apologise to [ ].”
Sae said, before rising from his seat, taking your hand to momentarily lead you outside of the lounge, shutting the door behind you.
You sweatdrop as you two overheard the cotinued bickering from Rin and the blonde, both of them not bothering to keep quiet.
Sae sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“I— sorry about that. I wanted it to just be us, but Rin ended up tagging along .”
He murmured, the tips of his ears a bit red as he said the beginning of the second sentence. You didn’t notice, humming in understanding.
“Well, I can understand that, i guess… we haven’t seen each other for a long time after all…”
You say, scratching the back of your head before you point to the lounge.
“But who the hell is that gyaru in there?!”
You exclaim, making Sae blink, seemingly registering that you have never met him.
“…oh, that is Shidou Ryusei. He is a former villain that is currently in the same rehabilitation program as Kaiser.”
He said, nodding to the lounge where the bickering still echoed through, slowly getting louder and louder with each minute of Sae’s absence.
You sweatdrop, thinking of Kaiser and Shidou interacting. You smile, looking at Sae.
“Really? And how is that going?”
You say, making the other turn to you, an eyebrow raised.
“Are you kidding me? Have you seen these two?”
Sae said, making you laugh. Sae let out a sigh, dropping his head.
“Terrible. Kaiser is at the verge of choking Ryusei with his vines at the end of every training session. “
You only nodded at that, shrugging your shoulders.
“…yep. Seems about right.”
You chuckle, before smiling.
“Yeah. And Shidou also recently transferred to your team, so I thought that since Rin already tagged along, that shidou could also tag along, to… quell the awkwardness between you two.”
Sae said, making you let out a sigh.
“Yeah, brilliant plan, genius”
You teased him, before giggling.
“Well, here goes nothing. Lets go inside before they tear the whole restaurant apart, yeah?”
You say, nodding towards the lounge. Sae nodded, apologising again before holding the door open for you to step back inside.
You two were greeted by Rin about to throw a side dish at the blonde, who seemed to enjoy riling the younger brother up.
Sae glared at both of them, saying that they should sit back down, to which they complied.
You were tasked with keeping shidou in check during the dinner, while Sae pulled on Rin’s ear to behave, which was almost comical. It reminded you of your past.
You ordered your food, and you came to talk with Shidou, who seemed more than eager to learn more about you, slinging an arm around you in a friendly manner.
You were startled at first, but you got to know that he was naturally this affectionate, with how he regularly made kissy faces at Sae and poked Rin across the table.
You two talked about movies and music, with you finding out with delight that shidou was also an avid movie fan.
“I was a villain for street fights and vandalism, nothing too crazy…”
He exclaimed, earning a deadpan from the Itoshi brothers who seemed to know a bit more. You guessed that involved said street fights. Considering Shidou’s eccentric nature, you could only guess that they regularly escalated.
Conversation flowed naturally other than that, with you seemingly having earned shidou’s respect after a while, who eagerly sought out conversation with you after that.
And you admitted that it was… nice, sitting around a full table, talking about anything and everything. Except for Rin, who still glared you down whenever you so much as tried to say anything to the younger brother, only answering with curt responses, leaving an awkward silence afterwards.
You could only suspect that he still held a bit of resentment from you leaving the siblings.
Dinner wrapped up, and you four decided to wrap the evening up with a stroll along the river, the temperature being more than suitable for a walk.
You mainly spoke to shidou, who talked your ear off about the various artworks he painted on several house walls, before he went of to discuss something with Sae.
You laughed, seeing Sae fight dropicking him as he practically pounced on the other, even more so watching Rin clenching his fists, fighting the urge to tear the blonde off his brother.
You just then noticed that you and Rin were beside each other. You gulped, scratching the back of your neck as awkwardness filled the silence between you two.
“…”
You watched as Rin furrowed his brows, his eyes sharpening.
“I’m still mad at you, by the way.”
He exclaimed after a while, making you sigh. You guessed that this conversation was about to come sooner or later.
“…I know. I’m sorry.”
You said, biting the inside of your cheek you saw Rin grimace at the corner of your eye.
“…yeah.”
He only said, before a period of silence filled between you two before he talked again, this time with a hint of vulnerability seeping through his voice.
“[ ]… were we ever important to you?”
He eventually asked, making you freeze. A moment of silence passed, before it was your turn to frown, frustration bubbling up inside you.
“what...? Of course you two did…!”
You spat out, clenching your fists.
“I did all these things back then because you two were the only ones that mattered. It destroyed me, but I still did it—“
“Well, it didn’t feel like you did.”
You were cut off by the younger man, who was not at all fazed by your anger. Rather, he seemed even more angry at the fact that you were irritated.
“Dont you realise that we never asked you to do that? It was only our warped hero complex that told you to do all these things. We could’ve—no, we would’ve helped you. Then all of this wouldn’t have happened. But instead, you distanced yourself more and more when you began to fall apart, pushing us away. Not once did you think how that would affect us, right?”
The other retorted. You were silent, only listening as you noticed in horror that a look of pity crossed Rin’s face. Suddenly, you felt really small, making you avert your eyes.
“Well, Nii-chan took your dissapearance really hard. I mean, how could he not? You can’t make people depend on you then push them away once they do.”
Rin continued, watching Sae and Shidou walking a few metres in front of you two.
“He often asked himself if the connection you two had was one-sided. He told me after meeting you again after five years that you didnt do so much as react.”
He said, a humorless laugh escaping him.
“Are you kidding me? Not even a proper apology or anything after all of the things we went through? After leaving us with only a measily letter wishing us the best?”
He grit out, making you flinch, the words seeping in.
“But still… Nii-chan believed in you, forgave you for every stupid thing you did and hurt him. Although… he was always so stupid when it came to you.”
Rin went through his hair, sighing. You were silent for a moment, before you pressed your lips together.
You weren’t angry aymore. You got what you deserved, after all.
The last five years were spent in solitude, leaving you separated from anyone else.
A broken laugh escaped you, realising that you really didn’t save anyone after all.
In the end, you were only a kid that bit off more than it could chew.
“…I get it. I messed up. I’m a real asshole.”
You began, sinking your head before you locked eyes with the younger Itoshi once again.
“Is there…anyhing, really, to make it better?”
You asked, making Rin quirk up an eyebrow.
He eventually hardened his gaze, locking eyes with you.
“I honestly don’t want you to do anything. You frankly did enough to either of us.”
He said, making you wince. Well, you kind of deserved it.
“I want you to apologize to nii-chan at the end of... all this. Properly.”
He said, making you nod immediately. But what came next made you freeze.
“And I want you to remove yourself from our lives for good.”
He said, a tone of finality in his voice. Your eyes widen at that.
“I… what? You want me to dissappear again?”
You say, confused, making the other sigh. He nodded, crossing his arms. He frownd, raising his eyebrow.
“Not dissappear. Cleanly cut ties. Go on your seperate way, without making Nii-chan false hopes and risking to hurt him again with…whatever complexes you have. You messed up once. We don’t need to relive that a second time.”
He says, making you flinch again. That was…reasonable. Alhtough you couldn’t understand the false hopes part. You decided to not ask, lest you wanted to be killed by Rin.
After a moment of silence, you sighed, nodding.
“… I understand. I’ll do that.”
You said, making the other relax just a bit, nodding.
The younger Itoshi inspected you for a while, before sighing.
Rin then wordlessly motioned you over to walk to the rest of the group, who looked over to you curiously.
“What did you two talk about, boss?”
Shidou asked, circling you and Rin in a curious manner. Rin immediately shoved him off, glaring at him.
“Only some private stuff. Now get off you overgrown reptile, before I corrode you.”
“Ooh, kinky~”
“You—!“
Rin snapped, pulling at his ear, making the other cackle, running off with Rin hot on his trail, leaving only you and Sae before you all went on your seprate ways.
“Is everything alright? Rin didn’t say anything weird, did he?”
Sae asked, making you sweatdrop. You shook your head, shaking your head.
“…nah, it was nothing.”
You lied, Rin’s words echoing in your head.
You four eventually parted ways, with you and Shidou going up to the subway station, and Sae and Rin taking a cab provided by the agency.
(Sae offered to take you home, but with one look at Rin’s face made you decline the offer almost immediately)
You and Shidou went to each others opposite direction, so you waited for shidou’s train on his platform first, since it came sooner.
You talked about mundane things, when the blonde chirped up, noticing his train approaching.
“Man, I need to say that you really are pretty cool, boss~”
He chirped, making you snort.
“Yeah well you aren’t that bad yourself, Shidou.”
“It will be hard to compete for Sae-chan’s affection with you as my love rival~”
He said in a sing song voice.
You laughed.
“Haha, what are you—wait, what?”
You froze, making the other blink.
“What?”
You sputtered, shaking your head.
“You like Sae?!”
You exclaimed, surprise crossing your face. Shidou only raised an eyebrow at that, like it wasn’t surprising at all.
“...Yeah? Have a problem with that?”
He asked, making your eyes widen.
“What? No, no, no, of course not!”
You frantically shake your head, sputtering.
“It’s just— I never noticed, I guess….”
You muttered, making the other deadpan. You gulp, thinking about Rin’s expression if he overheard this conversation.
“You—that— you are kidding right? I’m not really discreet about it, boss.”
Shidou said, watching the train arrive at the station, opening its doors. He grinned, stepping forward as he turned back towards you.
“And Sae likes you, if you haven’t notice already. So that makes us rivals!”
He said, making everything stand still. Your head reeled, as you tried to proccess what Shidou said.
…Sae?
The Sae Itoshi liked you?
You chuckled at first, not believing it. That couldn't be.
...Well, although that would explain his attached attitude after all these years, you guessed. And the way you sometimes noticed his ears growing a bit red around you ever since you two were kids. And the fact that Rin told you to not give Sae false hopes—
holy shit he really did like you.
You were only taken out of your trance at the sound of Shidou cackling, pointing at your expression.
“Ha! You should see your face right now! You are as dense as a rock, boss!”
He excaimed, not bothered by the looks the other passengers gave him as the doors began to close.
“Well, see you tomorrow, [ ]! Lets have a fair fight, ‘kay?”
He said cheekily, leaving you dumbfounded on the train station.
— — —
The next morning, you came in late, sluggishly dragging yourself into the office. You almost collided with Kaiser on the way to Sae, making the other give you a dirty look, an eyebrow raised.
“Watch where you going, you— woah. You look like shit.”
He said, making you deadpan, flipping him off. You were way too tired to handle him right now.
“…thanks, Kaiser. You are as sweet as ever.”
You remark, making the other grin, seemingly feeding off your irritation.
You didn’t bother to hear his response, taking a big sigh as you opened the door to Sae’s office, ignoring the glare Rin gave you as he strolled past.
You waved Loki good morning before entering. The only good interaction you will probably have this morning,
Sae looked indifferent as you approached, although his eyebrow furrowed as he saw you, worried.
Shidous words echoed through your head, ones that kept you up all night.
Right. Sae liked you.
“Are you ok? You look tired.”
He said, making you almost flinch back. You only curtly nodded, an awkward silence filling you. Sae raised an eyebrow at that, making you immediately want to dissappear.
This was ridiulous. It wasn’t even that big of a deal. Right.
You were in your twenties damnit, you should really get over yourself.
You sigh, shooting him a smile
“Sorry, sorry. Didn’t sleep well last night.”
You said, a nervous chuckle escaping you. You suddenly felt flustered, and you noticed with an appaling realization that your cheeks burned.
God, if Rin saw you two right now he would kill you on the spot.
Sae blinked, noticing your blush. Cute.
He cleared his voice as he caught himself staring, pulling out the files of the team.
“Well, anyways—“
He said, handing them to you.
“Another day, another hero: which one would it be?”
You gulp, thinking.
You pick…
Kaiser’s file.
Aiku’s file.
Shidou’s file. (PLATONIC CH.)

Sae led you to Loki‘s office, a fancy walled off cubicle he got away from the main office space. He knocked once, then twice, against the frosted glass door, his frown deepening with every moment of silence.
„What the…“ he murmured, before slowly opening the door, revealing … an empty office.
„Huh,“ you simply say, your eyes gazing through the office. It was neatly arranged, with the stationary provided being of significantly higher quality as well.
Comes with being a world-class hero, you supposed.
Sae was the first to step in, frowning as he noticed Julian‘s jacket missing from the clothes rack in the right corner of the room.
He then let out an exhasperated sigh, pinching his nosebridge.
„Ugh… again? This brat…“
He muttered under his breath before turning to you, shaking his head.
„Sorry, seems like our precious monsieur Loki has decided not to deem you worthy enough for his pressence today,“
He said, making you let out a chuckle at the sheer bizarreness of the situation.
„he might look like a prim and proper polite gentleman, but he also knows how much power he holds. Believe it or not, he doesn‘t really like being told what to do.“
He commented, running a hand through his hair. You hummed, absentmindedly looking around.
If that what Loki said to Sae was true, it wasn‘t that hard to imagine; after all, you are bound to have some complexities around authorities when the only authority you knew constantly harmed you.
„Well, seems like he isn‘t that perfect after all,“
You simply tut, looking at Sae as he hummed in agreement, going over to his desk to look at the documents stacked neatly on the wooden surface. You raise an eyebrow.
„What are you doing?“
You asked, making Sae let out another sigh, shaking his head.
„Just because Loki isn‘t here doesn‘t mean you don‘t get to work,“ he simply said, flipping through the documents.
The room was momentarily filled with the sound of papers being shuffled around, before Sae came back, handing you a paper.
„Normally, you will manage the team by determining who to send on which missions based on the calls we get,”
He explained, before shrugging his shoulders
“But since the main man isn’t here right now, you will start with the more complex cases first, the ones that require more research and investigation. Till he comes back, you can do some investigating of this case.”
He said, nodding towards the bustling office space being heard from the outside.
“Come on, I will show you to your desk,”
He nodded, his shoes clacking against the floor and opening the door, only to flinch back when it revealed another person standing right in front of it.
“Huh. And here I thought I was the villain. Turns out our precious hero and his sidekick are breaking in and entering whenever they please.”
The person said, cockily tossing the royal blue tips of his hair over his shoulder, an eyebrow raised as he looked at you and Sae.
“Do you think that this will be enough for Ego to fire you? If that is the case, I wouldn’t have to hang around you and your self-righteous demeanor anymore.”
To that, Sae simply ignored him, turning to you to introduce him.
“…don’t mind him. This is Michael Kaiser, he is also part of your team. And Kaiser over here…”
Sae shot a cold glare towards the other, who stood there unfazed,
“Will behave himself around his boss. Kaiser, meet [ ], your superior.”
You gulped, not being used to be introduced as someone so important for a long time, only managing an awkward grin and a wave at Kaiser.
Kaiser seemed to notice that, resulting in him sighing, running a hand through his blonde hair, assessing you for a bit before making a face.
“This is my..boss? You serious? Thought that I would get a superhero as my mentor, not a chick from a former printing company”
The blonde said, rolling his eyes. Sae’s frown deepened at that, shooting him another grim look.
“For your information, she was a former superhero. Do not underestimate her.”
He said, making the other dismissively wave him off, rollig his eyes.
“As a matter of fact,”
Sae suddenly said, his tone shifting. It was the first time you noticed it having an almost… smug? tone to it, pointing him to an empty desk.
“Why don’t you show your senior the ropes? You know how to work an computer, right?”
He said, making Kaiser immediately back off, shaking his head.
“You serious? I’m not showing missy here how to work shit. I was shipped here all the way from germany to become a superhero, not an IT guy.”
He snarled, a deep frown on his face as he looked between you and Sae incredulously. Sae seemed indifferent to that, simply shrugging his shoulders before pointing towards the main office area.
“Well, can’t do anything about it now. The first step to being a proper hero is to help those around you. So you can help [ ] here as a first step, no?”
With that, Sae only half-heartedly pat Kaiser’s shoulder before mentioning that he needed to depart on a mission, walking off.
A moment of silence passed, with you only looking at Kaiser’s rage-filled expression, before he muttered out a curse word you couldnt understand, before sighing.
He then turned around to you, with the most annoyed expression he could possibly muster, jerkily nodding off to a empty desk.
“This motherfucking— Well,”
He said in the most fake, sugary sweet tone as possible,
“guess here we are, prinzessin. Come on, lets get this over with.”
— — —
Having Kaiser tutor you was… certainly something.
It was almost like you were tutoring him, with how incompentent he was himself.
The first hour or so were spend with him cursing every minute, almost wanting to destroy the computer multiple times, because he couldn’t understand why he couldn’t open a file.
It didn’t help that you didn’t know anything about it either, so the early noon was filled with bickering and hushed cursing.
“This stupid— hey, care to help, Prinzessin?”
“You were supposed to tutor me!”
“Well ex-fucking-cuse me part 13, that lukewarm robot currently in another roboter assigned me a task I’m not familiar with!”
He ran a hand through his hair, a deep frown crossing his face as he stared at the screen like it personally offended him
You sighed, looking at the clock, noticing that you two spend the last few hours doing practically nothing. You felt tired nontheless, and judging from Kaisers face, he did too.
“You know, I think I will figure this out in some way,”
You say after a while, shooting Kaiser a sheepish smile. You had a feeling that if this task was prolonged any longer, that he would actually kill someone in the office out of pure frustration.
“Thank you for your hard work, Kaiser.”
You said, hoping to release him from his obvious misery, making the other frown, confused.
“What the fuck do you mean? We— I didn’t help you at all.”
He said, frowning. He looked almost… hurt. You sighed, shaking your head.
“Sometimes, trying is the only thing you can do,”
You say, before momentarily hesitating.
“It’s okay to fail sometimes. Don’t let your setbacks or wins define you. It’s not healthy”
You mutter, making the other blink, seemingly taken aback of your words.
But it seems like your words did little to soothe him. Rather, it did the opposite, like he was personally offended by your words. He averted your eyes, a bitter expression crossing his face.
“Easy for you to say. You probably don’t even know how it feels.”
He spat out, before he abruptly stood up, not bothering to say anything else before stomping off, leaving you in the dust.
You could’t do anything besides gulping, noticing that you may or may not hit a nerve in him.
You didn’t know how the situation in germany was, but in Japan, the villain population isn’t born, they are made.
It was mostly wounded people wronged by the system, forced to do crime to afford a living. It was hard to adjust in this society, especially if you have a power.
The issue wasn’t about the computer, and you both know it. You sighed, noting that you needed to mend this in the future, before picking up the file, determined to do at least some work before clocking out for the day.
You only notice that a thorny vine has wrapped itself tightly around your office chair as you wanted to adjust it, almost in a desperate manner.

You skipped your lunch break, using the extra time to grab your jacket, dashing out of the office building.
It led you to a port in tokyo, one that was previously abandoned a few years ago. It was the perfect setting for criminal activity to thrive, especially for a case like this.
Illegal fighting rings weren’t uncommon. It was a big market in the dark web, and big criminal organizations often sponsor these events to recruit possible members.
This time, you had a suspicion that they even planned to take in some people from other countries, most likely teenagers or younger adults, ones that were desperate for a place to belong or just a quick buck.
Not knowing how vulnerable they are.
You stepped past the barricades closing off the port to the public, weaving yourself in between the crates when you noticed some movement , making you freeze.
You attempt to avoid them by slithering in between the crates, but you miscalculated, leading you to almost running straight into one of them.
Well, at least you knew now that your suspicion was right: there definitely was criminal activity going on at the port.
The two man looked at you for a moment, luckily the Blue Lock Logo on your shirt was covered up by your jacket, before a frown crossed their face.
“Who the fuck are you?”
The one asked, already moving his hand to grab something behind him.
Before you could even open your mouth to talk yourself out of this situation, the other pulled out a pocket knife, pointing it at you.
Your breathing hitched, suddenly not knowing what to do .
It was the first time you felt so… helpless. You normally always had the upper hand. The protocore was burned into your soul, and with a simple punch, both of them would be wiped out.
But now, they all looked so… tall.
“Come on, out with it, fucker. Who are you, huh?!”
The other practically screeched, immediately making you reach fight or flight mode. You half thought about using your strength to kick them in the nuts, before suddenly, a flash zipped through you.
“Wha-?!”
The other two looked around helplessly, before in a flash, they were knocked out. They laid on the concrete floor uncounscious, their limbs occasionally twitching, struggling to catch their breath from the impact.
You were also frozen, petrified, before the person stopped behind you, tapping you on the shoulder.
“Are you okay, miss?”
He asked, a smooth, polite voice, a stark contrast to the damage he did just a few seconds ago.
You whipped around, finally locking eyes with blazing golden ones. You blinked, recognising him.
It was the same beautiul man on the file, the one you were supposed to meet at the office this morning.
“…Loki!”
You muttered, your eyes widening. The other smiled, tilting his head in mild confusion.
“That is me. Why, you a fan?”
You shake your head, unzipping your jacket to show him your uniform, the metallic badge glinting beneath the sun.
“Not exactly. I’m with Blue lock,”
You explain.
“Maybe Sae has talked about me, I’m—”
“Ah, you are that dispatcher, right? “
He said, reaching to shake your hand. You nodded, and he shot you a smile, one that seemed just a bit more sincere.
He stepped up after helping you up, seemingly inspecting you. He then sheepishly scratched the back of his head, a guilty expression crossing his face.
“Why are you here, miss dispatcher? Is there a team meeting or something?”
He exclaimed, blinking. You shook your head, pointing at the two men on the ground.
“Not really. I was investigating a case, and it lead me here.”
You explain, earning a hum from the other.
“A case? Well, I guess this area was always sketchy…”
Loki said, making you nod.
“Yeah. It was a case assigned to you, involving an illegal fighting ring happening in the area. If my research is correct, today is the day some contestants arrive at the dock.”
You said, making a concerned expression cross his face.
“…I see,”
He said, looking through the little gaps between the containers, seemingly gazing at the distant glimmer of the sea peeking trough. He then turns to you, a polite smile on his face.
It was soft and kind, but it exuded a certain kind of unavering confidence, without an ounce of fear of what to come.
“We can’t ecxactly let that happen, no?”
He simply said, jogging further into the port, eyes sharpening as he looked through the space between the containers like he was a kid looking for an imaginary treasure in the backyard.
He wasn’t even being sneaky, not because he didn’t know what he was doing, but because he didn’t have any fear of what is to come.
You followed him hesitantly, having a bit of difficulty keeping up with his long strides.
“…right.”
You say, the fog of confusion lifting as a look of determination crossed you as you jogged behind him.
— — —
The case ended up taking you two the whole day.
It was sundown as you and Loki ended your talk with the local police, rounding up the criminals one by one before being shipped off into the station.
Throughout the mission, Loki’s confident and calm persona never faltered, his polite smile (which was beginning to look just a bit eerie in your opinion) never straying, even as he used his ability to blitz past all the enemies in an ambush, taking them down without breaking a sweat.
His moves were practiced, intentional, perfected to the highest degree like he was engineered for it.
It took you back, back when you performed similar moves in the suit. You wondered if he felt the same pain like you did, or if he already became numb to it after all these years.
You were shaken out of your trance as you were approached by Loki, the same polite smile on his face as he came up to you.
“Good work, dispatcher. You did better than I expected,”
He said, his smile gaining a boyish look at your raised eyebrow at his statement. He shook his head, chuckling.
“I’m kidding, I’m kidding. I expected nothing less, coming from a former hero. Excellent investigation done, boss.”
He exclaimed, making you shake your head, a look of confusion crossin your face.
“I… guess so? I mean, you were also at the port probably following the same clues…”
You say, making a moment of silence pass by before he shook his head, shrugging his shoulders.
“…nah, not really. I was just at the port because I wanted to do some parkour, to be honest.”
He exclaimed, making you tilt you head.
“You were doing… parkour? Here?”
You said, looking past the seemingly never ending scenery of empty cargo containers, seemingly weaving a labyrinth with the sea making up the golden centre.
Loki nodded, following your gaze.
“Yeah. There are no people here, and I get to move around a bit. It is pretty freeing.”
He explains, almost wistfully looking at the glimmering shine of the ocean in the far distance. You were just quietly nodding along, registering his words.
You leaned against one of the containers, calming down from the incident as a moment of silence passed you.
“Hey… can I ask you a question?”
You said, turning towards him, noticing how his eyes were on you all along. His eyes, normally intense and fierce, now had a soft, golden glow to them.
Like he recognized you. From what, you didn’t know.
“How do you… handle it? You know, after all of…”
You didn’t dare to say it aloud, a shaky breath escaping you. It was a question you asked yourself throughout all day.
You thought long and hard about it, the reason why you crumpled under all this pressure. What you lacked. What held you back from going on.
You eventually came to the conclusion that the isolation was what pushed you to your limit. It was the distance you forced onto everyone, onto Sae and Rin, onto the civilians and potential friends, afraid of your heart bleeding again.
You couldn’t handle the artifical love that was forced down your throat, the one that didn’t resonate with you, one that was born out of worship and reverance, rather than connection.
It made you sick, it made you long for the deep, human connection that belonged to the past, one that you couldn’t afford and were robbed off.
“Doesn’t it get… lonely? Being so revered all the time, with all this pressure on you?”
Loki seemed to think for a bit, before a light chuckle escaped him.
“Well… it all comes back to conditioning, no?”
He said, looking off into the distance.
“I don’t handle anything, I believe. It was something I grew up with, this environment is all I know.”
He said, although a twinge of sadness flickered through him. It was so fleeting though, almost as if you questioned wether or not it was just your illusion.
“Say, dispatcher, what do you think drives people?”
He asked, making you blink. He only chuckled, shaking his head.
“I believe that it is love. We all love, and we all crave it. It is what makes us human. For me, love is the worship and reverence I get from being the best. It is the only thing I can digest, the only kind of love I know. Although… I rememer a time where I longed for a deeper connection…”
He murmured the last sentence wisfully, eyes softening for a tiny bit.
“…But I quickly realised that it is not possible for someone like me. It is just the way I’m wired. So why long for something I won’t be able to receive nor give? I’ve accepted it a long time ago, that things like friendship and romance is something I won’t be able to experience in this lifetime.”
He said, making you furrow your eyebrows.
It was sad, now that you think about it. But it also makes sense, why he thinks this way.
You could only speculate, but being seen as a object of worship or as a weapon twisted his perception of connection and intimacy horribly.
“I…see.”
You answered, although you couldn’t help but disagree in your head.
“Well, I do think it’s hard for… people like us,”
You say, before furrowig your brows.
“ but that doesn’t mean that it is as impossible like you think, Loki.”
You said, making him blink, a flash of confusion crossing his eyes.
“I mean, we are pretty similar, no? Maybe…”
You hesitated, before gathering your courrage to continue.
“…we can be each others first friend. After all, we went through similar… conditions.”
You exclaimed, suddenly feeling a bit cringey with the way you phrased it. It was the first time in a rough decade and a half since you asked someone to be your friend, and you definitely felt it.
But after a while, you felt good, saying it. Loki didn’t deserve to be this isolated, not after everthing he went through.
And slowly, you recognized that you didn’t either.
You looked at the other, who looked perplexed for the first time ever since he met you. A moment of silence passed, before he let out a small laugh, one that sounded a lot more sincere than the practiced chuckles from before.
“…wow. Sorry, this— this is a first for me,”
He said, before smiling.
“This truly is the most bizarre thing I came across, sorry. But…. I guess we can try it. Just as long as I’m here in Japan.”
He said, making your eyes soften, happy about his approval.
“So, what is in store for us now, friend?”
He said, looking at the sun dipping down into the horizon, painting the sky in a brilliant hue of orange and red.
You were about to say something, before you were interrupted by a ping from your phone. It was a message from Sae, reading:
[Sae I.]: I heard about the successful case. Good work, [ ]. Wanna grab dinner by that restaurant again?
You blink, before looking at Loki, who still had that expectant look on his face.
You turn your phone off, contemplating for a bit.
“how about we grab some dinner as a start?” (Grab dinner w Loki)
“how about we head back for now?” (Grab dinner w Sae)

Sae leads you out into town, down a hidden alleyway, making you question wether or not you were getting a meal out of this reunion or a revenge plot for abadoning him.
Turns out it really was just dinner, a hidden fancy dinner spot he chose and seemingly already had a reservation for.
„It‘s a restaurant I randomly found in between some business trips,“
Sae said, holding the door out for you and making the server lead you to a private booth near the end of the restaurant.
It was way fancier than the clothes you had on, and even though you could see the staff giving you a pointed stare, they couldn‘t exactly kick you out, considering the person accompanying you.
(Which you also guessed he knew, making you sigh. Guess his slight arrogancy hasn‘t weigned in all these years.)
„It serves good food. It even specializes in your favorite.“
He announces, handing you a menu. And sure enough, it really had your favorite dish on the menu. Well, just, you know, fancier.
You gulp, noticing that the price wasn‘t written on it. The notorious first sign that this reunion would be expensive as fuck.
But after a while (and after another pointed look by the waiter as he got your orders), you sighed, ordering your favorite dish alongside Sae.
Screw it. If it truly was supposed to be the rekindling of such a long and deep friendship, you could allow yourselves to splurge a little.
You noticed that Sae raised an eyebrow after the waiter dissappeard. He looked almost irritated, but you knew that it was just his face, and that he was just genuinely curious.
„What? Is this no longer your favorite anymore?“
He asks, his brows furrowing, making you quickly shake your head.
He was as perceptive as ever. Another thing that hasn't changed.
„No… no, it‘s still my favorite, just…“
You avert your eyes for just a moment, searching for a way to remedy the last impression you gave him. You lock your eyes back towards him, smiling.
„It‘s just… I‘m shocked. I‘m proud of how far you‘ve come, Sae.“
You said, making him freeze for a second. He seemed to be wanting to say something, before he stopped himself.
Meanehile, Sae could feel his heartbeat quickening at your words, heat rising to his neck.
„…oh.“
He tuts out, immediatly slapping himself mentally for being so lame, before he composed himself, straightening his back. A solemn flicker crossed his eyes.
„You could‘ve also gone further,“
He muttered under his breath, an almost pleading look crossing his face, before he awkwardly shook his head, having realised what he had just said.
„…I shouldn‘t have—“
You interrupted him, a sad smile crossing your face.
„No, it‘s… it‘s okay,“
You reassured him, shaking your head.
„You… you never knew how my mental state was… back then. It‘s not your fault, you, I mean— we were just kids.“
You sighed, fiddling with your hands.
After that, a moment of silence followed, only interrupted by the waiter opening the doors of the booth, presenting you with the food.
You silently breathed a sigh of relief at that, the awkwardness slowly leaving the room. Thank god.
The sight of your favorite dish made you drool, even more so seeing it so nicely plated. It has been a while since you had it, making you excited to eat.
„…wow. It looks…“
You say, before chuckling, making Sae look at you again.
„what? Underwhelming?“
He asks, and you quickly deny that.
„No it‘s just… I don‘t know, I expected it to… considering how fancy this place is, I thought that they would bring it out wrapped in gold and diamond shredded over it,“
You retord, looking at your plates, before digging in, Sae following suit.
It was deicious. You were worried that you couldn‘t find the words for it, or worse, couldn‘t appreciate the complex taste of something so expensive, but it was simply a very well cooked dish.
The salt level, textures and taste were ideal. You could actual taste the ingridients used in it, without overwhelming the other components.
It was a taste that took you back, a taste so ideal that you thought could only be achieved in dreams and distant memories.
A smile stretches across your face, looking back at Sae.
„This is a thousand times better than any gold and diamond on a plate. This is delicious, thank you.“
You say, taking another bite. Sae blinked, taking your expression in.
„It‘s a nice place,“
Sae said, looking at the glimmering glass filled with his drink.
„They just know how to make food. Its quality without needing to be wrapped in flashy gimmicks to shine,“
He said, before hesitating for a bit.
„it‘s just like your heroism, [ ].“
You stop. You put down your utensils, a small chuckle escaping you.
„…I don‘t think that my heroism was that,“
You deny with a wry smile, making Sae frown.
„No it wasn‘t that. It still is, and deep down, you know it.“
He declared, making you let out a heavy sigh.
You didn'r want to revisit this, but you secretely knee that that was Sae's goal all along.
„That… that wasn‘t me, Sae. It was… it was warped, they— the doctors, they used it, and it turned so ugly—“
You retort, running a hand through your head stressfully, before being interrupted by Sae.
„for them being able to use it to manipulate you, you had to have it. And you did, you always did. It was something you said you hated, but that didn‘t mean that it wasn‘t a part of you, [ ].“
He sighed, pressing his lips together before continuing.
„You just need to find a proper way to handle it. Balance it. I would know I—“
He averted his eyes for a moment, seemingly remembering a dark moment in his life.
„I learned it the hard way,“
He muttered, before returning to you.
„i have a feeling that you didn‘t— that we didn‘t find closure with what happened yet. From nine years ago.“
He said, making you sink into your seat.
Mainly because you knew it was true.
No matter how much you tried to hide it, no matter how often you said to yourself that it was better to be bored than to suffer, you were still suffering deep inside.
You were restricting yourself, rotting away as you knew that this dimmed out version of you was also a rotten thing bloomed from the torture.
An escape disguised itself in closure.
You were taken out of your trance as you noticed that Sae slid something over the table.
You flickered your eyes to it, realizing that it was a card. A business card. You almost wanted to laugh at the transaction, looking up at Sae with an increculous look.
„S-sae, what—“
„That‘s Blue Lock, the… Hero Agency I‘m currently signed to,“
The man explains, his teal eyes glimmering dimly under the low light.
„It‘s the new kid on the block, but… the director has a clear heart and set goals,“
He said, making you finally let out an empty laugh.
„Wha— is this a joke? Did you do all this just to fucking recruit me—“
„I am doing this because I believe they can bring us both what we need.“
Sae said, looking at the business card himself. The big, bold blue letters spelled Blue Lock alongside their E-mail and Phone number.
„We are currently investigating a case involving a few people from…nine years ago. We speculate that they have grouped together and are attempting to revive the programm.“
You freeze.
Suddenly, you felt sick to your core.
You looked down at your food, suddenly looking anything other than delicious.
Right now, you wanted nothing more than to throw up.
„n…no…“
You croaked out, your eyes shaking. You missed the hurt expression on sae‘s face, noticing how distraught you looked.
„Join the agency, [ ]. We have assembled a team that are working on this case, and maybe, we can finally bring an end to… all of this. Forever.“
You shake your head, locking eyes with Sae.
„I—no, I can‘t. Sae you— I don‘t even have a protocore anymore. I can‘t possibly go back into the mech,“
You say, making him immediately shake his head.
„No,“
He said firmly. Grimacing, he looked down.
„I would never make you go back into that suit again,“
He muttered, before gathering his resolve.
„You aren‘t going to be a hero. You are going to be a dispatcher instead. For the team. For my team.“
He announced, making you look up.
You tilt your head, confusion written all over your face.
„A….dispatcher?“
You repeated, furrowing your brows.
„What is a dispatcher?“
„A dispatcher is someone who sends heroes out for missions, based on their strengths and weaknesses. See it as… like some sort of manager, but for heroes.“
Sae explained, his calculating gaze on you as he looked at every little expression you gave.
„completely safe. You are sitting behind a computer at all times, but you are still the backbone of the operation. Call it being a hero without the fancy title.“
He glances at the food before back at you, this time with an amusing tilt in his voice.
Amusing, considering that he didn‘t even smile.
„Like a good dish without needing to be wrapped in gold and powdered with diamonds… or whatever you expected.“
He said, making you deadpan at his lame excuse of a joke.
You look back at the card, then at the dish, before finally landing on Sae.
„I don‘t know Sae… I don‘t know if I‘m up— i mean, ready for this kind of thing. Again.“
You say, making the other blink.
Sae only looked at you with his blank, an almost bored look, before lightly shrugging his shoulders.
„Oh, but I think you do. That look on your face right now… it was something that took be back a few years further than nine.“
— — —
Dinner more or less wrapped up with that (both of you couldn‘t finish that meal, not after having that kind of conversation), with Sae bringing you all the way back to your apartment.
It was silent, and you took your shoes off at your doorway, before turning back to him.
„…it was nice catching up with you, Sae.“
You said, forcing out a smile.
„glad to hear that. I also liked it. It‘s…“ he seemed to hesitate for a bit, searching for the right words to say, „it‘s really nice seeing you again.“
He muttered, putting his hands in the pockets.
And finally, you saw it; a small, hesitant smile on his face as he locked eyes with you.
His teal eyes seemed to shine, unspoken feelings aching to escape.
„…see you on monday?“
He hesitantly asked, making you chuckle. After a bit of silence, you nod, sighing.
„You will see me on monday, Sae.“
You say, and with a mutual good night, you closed the door behind you, leaving only Sae at your doorway, letting out a relieved sigh.
The night was calmer, now that he knew that he had you by his side again.
He was walking down the external staircase of your apartment complex, when he noticed something; blue roses blooming across the railing, the vines having large, sharp thorns attached to them. Sae frowned, knowing who was most likely spying on them.
He arrived at the end of the staircase, and with an exasperated sigh, he adjusted the coat on his form, not saying anything, opting to just walk off and ignore the other when an amused snort cut through the silence.
„I didn‘t know you could smile. It looks disgusting,“
The person spat out, stepping down on the cigarette to put it out. He pulled down his hood, revealing the flowing golden blond hair, turning into a brilliant royal blue.
„Thought that smile would convince her to let you inside, right? I knew you weren‘t very active in that aspect, but that just makes you look pathetic, senior. I always thought that you were celibate by choice, but I guess not.“
The person chuckled, looking up at your apartment door, inspecting it for a while.
He shrugged, pulling out another cigarette and lighting it, watching the smoke fade away under the bright light of the street lamp.
Sae furrowed his brows, rolling his eyes at the jab.
„Don‘t start, villain. Considering your lukewarm life, you could only dream of having this kind of connection.“
He retorts, ignoring the death stare he got from the other.
The blonde clicked his tongue, stomping on the cigarette.
„As if I want something like that,“
He muttered, flipping the other off before departing.
"As if."
He would eat his words later on.
— — —
It was monday, and you woke up to the sound of your alarm, the first one in years.
Normaly, you always had the closing shift at the record store, but now, you had to be there bright and early.
At the Blue Lock agency.
You took the subway to the heart of the city, the bustling streets taking you straight back.
You squeezed yourself through the commuting people, dodging hurrying salarymen and students on their way to school, all the while making sure that you looked somewhat presentable.
You arrived at the building, admiring its unique structure and gleaming windows, the letters spelling „BLUE LOCK“ proudly displayed on the front of the building.
You stepped inside, immediately being greeted by the influx of various heroes clocking in, some of them running past you, already on their first mission.
You were at the lobby when you met Sae, this time in his gear, greeting you with a curt nod.
You looked at him, a wry smile on your face.
„Hi. This…“
You looked at his suit, making him roll his eyes.
„Is different? Yeah. Way more comfortable than the other one, I tell you,“
He commented, making you chuckle, before throwing you a shirt and a pair of pants.
„Come on, I can‘t have you wearing that to the office. Change and follow me.“
He instructed, pointing at a nearby warderobe for you to change.
You nodded, entering the room with fellow dispatchers, changing into your uniform.
You looked at yourself in the mirror afterwards, humming. It looked… different. Like you were…a proper adult. Like you were moving on.
You exited the warderobe, following Sae to the offices. He seemed to notice your nervousness, his teal gaze holding you hostage for a good few minutes.
„relax, the first week, you will be familiarizing yourself with the team. I‘m not that evil. Solo missions first, then you will manage whole team missions,“
He assured you, and the elevator doors open, revealing a big, luxurious office space, heroes and dispatchers alike scurrying around.
You two went into a seperate meeting room, sitting down opposites from each other as Sae handed you a stack of files.
„This,“ he pointed, „is the team you will be working with. I think you will recognize someone.“
He said, making you curious, opening the folder. There were three people you didn‘t recognize, Sae, and—
„Wait, Rin is in my team too?“, you said, looking at the now matured younger itoshi brother. Sae sighed, nodding.
„He insisted. But of course I let him, this was his case too.“
He said, putting Rin and his file aside.
„But no matter that. I‘m sure that we have plenty of time to catch up during the case. He already said that he is thrilled to see the one who hogged all my attention back then again,“
He said, making you sweatdrop. Upon noticing this, he simply shrugged. „His words, not mine.“
He refocussed on the three unfamiliar faces, pointing at the first one. The person looked slightly older, with dark, indigo hair, contrasted with the stark green splits at the end.
But the main thing that made you look at his picture were the pair of mismatched colored eyes, one being a bright green and one being the same shade of deep, dark blue.
„Oliver Aiku. The one who found out about the resurfacing of this organisation during another mission he was in. He is extremely reliable in defending, and he hopes to rebuild his reputation with this operation after he was found out to be two timing some models… again.“
Sae said, an exhausted sigh escaping him. He looked at you, a stern look on his face as he locked eyes with you.
„Do not fall for his charms. Never led to something good. Or… lasting.“
He warned, before moving on. You looked over his photo and name, noting that he was most likely a foreigner.
The first thing that you noticed were his piercing golden eyes, exuding a quiet sense of confidence. He had dark skin and black hair, with everything looking polished and well kept.
While Oliver looked more rugged and mature, making him attractive, he looked… beautiful. Sae seemed to notice, moving on to the next file.
„Julian Loki. A superhero that just transferred here from france. He said that he would help in this investigation considering that he was in a similar situation back in his home country.“
He said, making you frown.
„He was also experimented on?“
„He wouldn‘t say. Maybe you could get him to open up.“
„Well, it seems like he came out of it all a hell of a lot better than I did,“
You snorted, making Sae roll his eyes before moving on to the last unfamiliar face, immediately frowning at the sight.
„And last…and certainly least, Michael Kaiser. A former villain from Germany, currently on a redemption programm issued between several countries. Department thought that this case was the best way for him to „boost his morale“, so here we are.“
You looked at the photo. It was in a high contrast to that of Loki;he was bruised up here, his blond hair messy with a sharp frown, almost like he didn‘t want to be there. Cutting blue eyes mirroring the tips of his unusual haircut, with a sharp red eyeliner on and a distinct rose tattoo on his neck.
You gulp, redirecting your gaze back at Sae, who looked at you expectantly.
„So? You have the choice. You need to go on a solo mission with all five of us, but you can pick who you will try out your dispatch managing skills first. Although, it would be good to test out your managing skills with a person you haven‘t met yet.“
You nod, looking at every file on the table.
You pick up the file with the name…
Oliver Aiku.
Julian Loki.
Michael Kaiser.
„Why not with you and Rin?“

Your job at the vintage movie store was… fun. Well, not really.
It was easy, if anything, and sometimes, you could chat with the few customers (which were to ninety-percent just pretentious film snobs) about their favorite french new wave film and how Hollywood collapses because of yada yada yada.
So, yeah. Fun.
You lounged around at the register, watching as the time passed by with the gradual change of the golden light seeping through the big displays. Today was a slow day like always, one that was getting more and more frequent. And one that always made you think too far back.
In these moments, you always ask yourself why you even started this boring ass job in the first place. But then you think back on the time before you lounged at the register, with „top ten hip hop hits of the century“ playing in the background, and with a shudder going through your spine, you come to the same conclusion like always:
It is better to be bored than to suffer.
Maybe that is why you got this job, tucked far away from the bustling city centre in a slow neighbourhood, filled with cheap restaurants and other shops like this, who cannot afford the rent in a better area.
You just wanted to get away from reality, one that didn‘t hesitate to shove your past into your face.
You grimaced, thinking about it, not wanting to think about it — playing with the last cigarette you fished out of your pocket. One that you planned to smoke when you got off the clock.
And the last minutes went by rather fast, you ended up with speaking to some high schoolers (y‘know, the kind that only look around and don‘t really borrow any movies) about their favorite heist films before beginning to close up.
You began to dust the register from the imagineable specks of dirt, when the bell chimed again, signaling that another customer has entered the store, this time after closing.
„Oh sorry, I‘m just about to close up—“
You begin, before freezing. A breath escapes you as you gazed at the person in front of you, time seemingly standing still as you locked your gaze with a once familiar teal ones.
Ones that were now on big billboards and magaizine covers, titling him as Tokyo's " saving grace", the shine of his mech suit illuminated by the rising sun.
A suit that once had a very similar one standing beside him as a kin.
You let out a shuddering breath you didn‘t know you were holding, before a whisper escaped you.
„…Sae?“
---
He looked different from the last time you saw him.
Well, it is to be expected- it has been nearly half a decade since you last saw him.
The ones scrawny, scruffy kid was now an adult, a strong body clad in expensive branded clothes, probably ones that his former self couldn't even dream of.
Sae didn't say anything at first, holding you under his calculating gaze for a moment. His cyan eyes grew colder over the years, more rational and analytical as time passed.
Well, it is to be expected you supposed- the hero business was hardly a welcoming and warm place.
But despite everything, you could still see it, the hint of vulnerability hidden beneath his eyes, the flicker of fondness that still simmered beneath the cold swirl of torquoise and blue.
It was the remnants of a time you didn't want to look back on. To a time before you stood behind the register of a slowly dying store, the thick fog of boredom over you making you question why you took the path you were in now, before coming to the same conclusion every time.
It was better to be bored than to suffer.
You averted your eyes, not wanting to face the past you saw in Sae's eyes, ones that still wanted to reach out to you, reminding you of a time where you weren't this cynical and passive, where your eyes still looked at the future.
You two grew up together alongside his little brother Rin in a humble little orphanage in the outskirts of Tokyo, where the hallways were filled with dreams. Dreams once fueled by the sights of the glimmering city a few kilometers away.
It a pretty tight knit community, since the house wasn't able to take in that many kids. These times were simple, happy, spend with playing hide and seek and tag in the yard and exploring the abandoned ruins of a temple a few minutes away (some could say that you peaked in elementary school, but you refused to aknowledge that).
So it was only natural that you and Sae were pretty close. It was pretty much a given, since you two slept in the same room as all the other kids, and were the same age. You still remembered Instances where Rin got near teary eyed, watching you two play without him, tagging alongside his cool older brother and „the one that always hogs his attention“.
You remembered only laughing at Rin‘s jealousy, ruffling his dark hair a bit too roughly as you reassured him that you never did such a thing. You and Sae were just the two oldest kids at the orphanage, it was only natural that you two spend time together.
„…“
You were taken out of memory lane by Sae‘s voice cutting through, his frigid gaze flickering.
„Long time no see.“
He simply said, attempting to sound indifferent, to sound nonchalant and aloof.
It was a coping mechanism he had ever since he was a kid, stepping inside the orphanage alongside his little brother. You suspected that he did that to calm Rin down, being in this new, unfamiliar environment. And even though everybody else just thought that Sae was a big cold jerk, you knew better.
You were the oldest and the longest there, so you got to know many faces and got to learn many stories, kids entering and leaving more often than you could count.
Now that you think about it, it was almost comical how nobody wanted you, despite you being so well-mannered and polite. You recalled the other caretakers beginning to joke about how you would be there till you were eighteen, teasing you about making you an employee, since you were basically something like the kids councelour already.
You recalled crying quietly in a corner after that, anxiety bubbling up at the prospect of no one wanting you in their family.
Kids like Sae weren‘t rare, and you knew that this behaiviour was most likely a mask to fool anyone else, especially his little brother— putting on an act that he had everything under control, that everything wasn‘t a big deal.
That he could handle it.
But after a lot of comforting and reassuring, even the most scarred kids break down, sparkly tears filling their eyes before trickling down their rosy cheeks, followed by a furious swipe of their arm over their eyes.
And you were always there, pulling them into your embrace as the distant laughter down the hallways echoed, isolated from the stage that was their reality, forcing them to perform.
Letting them breathe for a while. Reminding them that they were still a kid.
Maybe you should have reminded yourself that you were a kid as well, now that you think about it. That you never stepped out of that stage to begin with.
„…how did you find me?“
You croaked out after a while, and like a spell was casted on the other, Sae‘s facade began to crumble. Hurt flashed through his eyes, and for a moment, you could see him clenching his jaw.
A part of you felt bad at the sight, considering how close you once were. But just as fast as it came, it went, replaced by an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion.
You felt tired.
Tired of being the pillar everyone could rely on, and tired of feeling worthless when they were not.
Tired of feeling like the dirtiest, most unlovable person on the planet when you couldn‘t save the people that were dear to you.
Tired of the many sleepless nights you spend on your balcony with two packs of cigarettes, attempting to drown out the voices with the nicotine filling your lungs.
Tired of teethering your self worth to your usefullness, each letdown you triggered chipping away at your sanity.
So you quit. You shut yourself off from the rest of the world, moved away, away from the life you once had, cutting contact with both Sae and Rin.
It was selfish, but you suspected that if you kept going, that you would have actually harmed yourself, or worse, others.
You could see Sae hesitating for a bit, before averting his eyes.
„I asked around,“
He said, pressing his lips together into a thin line. Sae then released a breath, running a hand through his brushed up bangs. They were a bit choppy and messy, different from when you used to cut his bangs.
„it‘s just been— what, like nearly five years?“
He practically spat out, eyes narrowing. You bit your lip at that, averting your eyes, not wanting to remember that memory. You locked eyes with Sae, who now didn‘t even try to mask his hurt.
And despite him being practically unrecognisable to his former self, clad in expensive clothing and a well kept, handsome appearance worthy on being displayed on billboards, you couldn‘t help but see that little boy in him that you used to play hide and seek with.
A few years ago, you still saw him as your dearest friend.
A few years ago, you survived one of the most traumatic experiences of your life together.
You tear your eyes away, your head sinking.
„It… it has been a long time, hasn‘t it?“
You say, your voice softening automatically. No matter how much time passed, you think that you could never talk to Sae in a cold manner.
It was a realisation both scary and comforting.
You shake your head, resuming your useless task of cleaning the spottless countertop.
„How are you these days? You sure that Rin won‘t come after me, seeing as you are here with me again?“
You muse, a humorless laugh escaping you as you attempted to lighten the mood. You missed the warmth blooming in the golden flecks of Sae‘s eyes.
„…no, I— I said that I would be on a date,“
He retorted, followed by a snort from you, your eyes crinkling a bit from amusement.
Sae hoped that you couldn‘t hear his rapid heartbeat at the sight of that.
„Really? A date? Couldn‘t you come up with any other excuse, big bro?“
You said, using the title Rin gave him back at the orphanage.
„You of all people should know that we are pretty much completely stunted to even attempt having a casual date on the side…“
You say, a breathless chuckle escaping you. It was a bit rude, but it was correct.
There was no cure for what happened nine years ago.

You were fourteen when the orphanage got a new management. You remembered being in the bedroom alongside all the other kids, the door slightly ajar as you and Sae looked at the many men in suits stepping through the hallway.
Both of you immediately knew that they were bad news.
It was the way they were standing so tall and imposing, their steps echoing through the once bright hallway like a final verdict being placed.
It was the way they all did a check up on each and every one of the kids, strange gadgets and monitors strapped onto you as they seemed to look for something.
You didn‘t know what it was till you, Sae, Rin and a few other kids were eventually taken with them, the way they roughly shoved you into the van like you were cargo not going unnoticed by you.
The sorry looks of the very caretakers supposed to keep you safe was the last look you got from your old home, before the goodbye was briefly ended with a stack of cash being handed to the orphanage manager.
What happens next was unknown to you, since the door closed, but you thought that you could hear muffled cries and calls of your name being heard before being overshadowed by the car engine revving up.
And you hated the way you were trembling back then, how you couldn‘t keep yourself upright, even though everyone was so scared.
You hated the way you hated yourself in that moment.
Turns out that you were going to a research center stationed at the other end of the city, the glimmering lights soon dimming in the horizon as you approached a giant facility.
The grey walls and sterile interior reminded you of a hospital, the cold light burning down on you as you were taken to your seperate rooms.
You remembered that that was the first time that you had your own room. It was spacious, clean and empty, and you remembered crying as quietly as possible that night, even though the walls were padded. You didn’t want anyone to hear you.
Because you were supposed to be strong.
But it was hard to do so when you were going through daily tests everyday, the burns and scars from resonating your body to the protocore still a harsh reminder of how you were actually weak.
Turns out you and sae‘s body were especially compatible with the newest invention the doctors made. It was called the Protocore, an incredibly powerful energy source that could power intricate roboters and technical suits.
You two were the only ones that were that highly compatible with it, and the other kids from your orphanage had special DNA woven into them that could awaken special abbilities, like rin.
It was then you finally realised for what you were here for, alongside Sae and the others: you were products. Future weapons the government could exploit for whatever pitiful conflicts they could use.
And even with that realization, the days became hardly easier, now that the fog of confusion was lifted.
Tests and Examinations were the only things you knew for the next few years.
You hardly knew anything else. You were numb at the time, something you slowly build up after you knew what it cost once you rebel.
For a heart so anxiously teethered to other people, it bled horribly whenever one piece was brutally torn out.
This period did irreperable damage to your body and psyche, paranoia following you for your slowly dying family and every potential civilians you let down in battle.
It became everything you thought about, everything that mattered to you.
And the worst part is that you always felt a twisted sense of happiness whenever you had the feeling you were destroying yourself for other people.
It was just how they wanted you.
You accepted the most missions.
You did the dangerous tests with your body and protocore even though Sae had a better compatibility with the it.
You tried to compensate for your weakness by destroying the fickle armor you had, in hopes of it getting stronger when it only eradicated and poisoned everything that it protected.
And then, after an investigation was done to the scientific research facility, exposing them for all their abuse and torture they afflicted to several children, you broke down alongside with your image, at the very height of your „career“.
Now everyone knew how weak you truly were.
And you swore to never look back.
— — —
You looked at the sheepish flush that dusted over Sae‘s ears at that, clearly embarrassed of his now realized ridiculous excuse, making you shake your head.
„hey, hey, relax. I— sorry, that was pretty rude of me,“
You say, scratching the back of your head. Now that you looked at your dear childhood… friend, maybe you should be a bit more welcoming.
After all, you couldn‘t imagine how alone he felt, after he realized that he needed to take care of Rin all alone, now even juggling his job as a superhero. Since pretty much everyone else from the orphanage were… you shake your head.
Their screams were just distant echoes now.
You observe as he gathers himself again, a frown now crossing his face.
„… is that it?“
He asks, a frown crossing his face. You tilt your head lightly, a soft smile crossing your face.
„What else is there?“
You retort, making him press his lips together, his gaze darkening.
„really? Is this—“
He looks at the empty movie store, the hip hop playlist now playing some somber jazz.
What an athmosphere.
„— everything you have to say, after five years?“
He said, and you simply nodded, not knowing how to lessen the growing frustration on his face.
„Well, there is nothing more to be said. Nothing more I want to say, to be honest.“
You muse, a sad smile crossing your face before locking eyes with him.
„hate me if it makes it easier, but I‘m… happy, this way. I told you in my letter that I never want to associate myself in the limelight again, and wishing you a good life. You should pursue that instead of chasing after something that belongs in the past,“
You recall, making him clench his jaw. His eyes narrow, and he takes a bold step forward. You just now notice how much taller he has grown taller over the years. Hm. You remembered when you were ruffling his hair after he fussed over you.
„I don‘t want to leave our connection in the past, [ ]. You wrote it, didn‘t you? In your goodbye letter?“
He declared, his gaze hardening.
„There is no cure for what happened nine years ago. There is also no cure for what happened five years ago. But what we can do is to treasure the little amount of good that came out of it,“
Sae said, biting the inside of his cheeks. You never saw him this emotional before. Guess that your weakness was so pitiful that even his icy exterior was melting.
But you couldn‘t deny the warm feeling spreading in your chest at his last sentence. Damnit.
Guess that you were still holding affection for him after all. You couldn‘t help but smile at that.
You were so sure that he hated you by now.
But it didn‘t seem like that at all.
You didn‘t know why, but you could slowly see color returning to the store, despite outside dipping everthing in darkness.
Maybe you did long for a deep connection after all.
A moment of silence passes, letting you soak in that new realization.
You let out a chuckle, shaking your head.
„Seems like your stubborness never left you after all these years,“
You said, before shooting him a small smile.
„Maybe we can. After all, what can‘t we do, at this point?“
You thought out loud, an amusing lilt in your tone. Sae only gazed at you, the cool teal in his eyes almost appearing warm with the way he observed you.
It was almost surreal, finding you after all these years.
A secretely giddy part of him hoped that that was some kind of sign.
He released a breath he didn‘t know he was holding before he spoke again, a quiet determination crossing his face.
„Great. How… about dinner? On me, of course,“
Sae proposed, making you jump slightly.
„Eh..? As in… right now?“
You stammered, with Sae answering only with a nod.
„Yes. See it as… properly catching up. I haven‘t told you what I have been up to, after all.“
He mumbled the last part, averting his gaze. You gulp, before sighing.
You gulp, before sighing.
„I don‘t know, Sae…“
„You know what? Why not.“

Note: [ ] was heavily parentified by the orphanage‘s caretakers, often too overwhelmed by the amount of kids (escpecially younger kids/toddlers) they needed to take care of. So [ ] also has some complexes about that.
