Hadrian wasn't quite sure why the oceanids were so curious with humanity- going as far as to ask their goddess to turn them into humans. He didn't think that was a smart decision but Cassiodor told him to play nice so nice he would play. The scolding was getting tedious.

He flew down next to the only oceanid he really knew, tucking his wings back into him before they disappeared. "You know... the humans are going to think you're creepy if you keep watching them like that" if they were even aware "Why the interest anyway?"

Focalors doesn't appear surprised at Hadrian's sudden appearance - instead, she simply hums and glances at him.

❝ Don't you think they're interesting? ❞ she asks. Her voice sounds, somehow, like running water. There's some quality about it that makes it sound... light, but not in an airy sort of way.

Such complicated little things - so many mannerisms and difficulties and things they won't do any things they will. ❞ And realising she hasn't really managed to explain at all, she continues, ❝ If I was made in the image of being a human, it would... make sense to want to act like a human. Hadrian all but flopped onto the ground beside her, turning at an odd angle so he was also looking at the people.

"Not really. I've seen them more up close. Maybe even too much. They're pretty boring and predictable when the novelty wears off. What do they even have going for them that made it worth the wars" Mostly the extermination of the dragons, an event he had heard all ahout from Scylla.

"Sure they're all complex and stuff but they can't be that different if all their civilisations end in similar ways" Hadrian had his own reasons for his distate. Even the now deceased people of Remuria who he was once fond of. His opinions on them shifted from contempt to apathy to somewhere in between. Arrogance was too prevalent a trait for his liking. "What type of human do you want to impersonate, then? I've done this before. They act different based on how much gold they have in their palms"

Ah. A tragic sentence; the common cold. “ It seems you have been given a tragic fate. You will be suffering from minor headaches, slight dehydration, a small fever and perhaps the occasional cough, ” she nods solemnly. “ Should I prepare the funeral? ”

Loki leans into the scritches, also almost entirely habitual by now. That and. Well. Cat™ "Nothing its just cold. And you are not" he wrapped himself a little tighter around her. The balemoon curse may be deadly but atleast it was warm. And while it eas debatable if you saw it as a downside or an up... it seemed it also came with being stuck with a clingy cat boy hanging off you whenever he got cold.

Loki pouted and nodded along "All those are correct! Must mean my inevitable end is even closer than I realised" he shook his head with a grave expression on his face "it is too late for me now. I must begin writing my will..." he untangled from her ever so slightly and then decided. Nope! Not a fan! And went straight back to clinging to her "Later. I can write it with my final breaths or something it'll be more stressful and dramatic that way"

And after that grueling journey through the hallway I must search for wherever I put my pen and some paper. And i must have my pen specifically that part is very important. Vera had been back in Mondstadt for a while now. Honestly, she was surprised she had gone unbothered for so long.

To be back in the City of Freedom, the Nation of Wind, it was... conflicting. On one hand, it was her childhood home to where she swore her first oath to protect. The dandelions and windwheel asters a welcome sight to see once more. But the other...

She won't get into that.

But as of late, she had noticed the wind to be following her where she went. Whether by faintly guiding her to the abyssal camps she was purging, or giving her a gentle breeze when her mind started to remember past events.

Vera wasn't oblivious, she knew that some of these occurrences weren't coincidence. This was the land of the Anemo Archon, after all.

" ... I don't bite, you know, " she called out into the air, " My heart hasn't been fully frozen over by the Snezhnayan winters, carefree bard. "

He's worried about her. And what about it? Maybe curious, concerned, is better wording, but that doesn't matter right now. The wind is restless today, whistling through the treetops in a soft melody that speaks of old memories.

“ You caught me. ”

Venti appears behind her in a small burst of Anemo energy, head tilted. “ Aww, miss me? ” he jokes, that light-hearted smile on his face. “ I think it's been ever so long. Too long, in fact. ”

He's somehow an inch or so above the ground when he speaks, hovering there lightly. “ You haven't been here in a while, have you? ”

She let herself sigh quietly under her breath and stepped aside slightly to better look at Venti, taking in his appearance before looking back into the horizon, watching the sun slowly set.

" It's been a while, indeed. " her hands moved to fix the vest she had worn today, then readjusted her gloves. " You must have time on your hands if you decided to take on the role of watching over me. "

Vera raised an eyebrow and gave the bard a look, placing a hand on her hip as she now noticed him floating off of the ground. " You look lively as ever, Barbatos. Ah, but you go by Venti in this form, correct? I've heard your songs from inside Angel's Share. "

He moves to stand next to her, looking at the sunset as she does. “ I always love this of day in Mondstadt, ” he hums, a little quietly. “ Well– let's be honest, I'm probably biased, ” Venti chuckles. “ But I do always love the sunsets. ”

The Archon laughs again, resting his chin on his hand. He's found a rock to sit on now, just a few feet away from her, and he swings his legs. “ I don't know what you mean, ” he grins. “ Aren't I always like this? Plus, am I not allowed to watch over a child of Mond? ”

He talks an awful lot. (It wouldn't be him if he didn't.) “ Yup! Venti the bard; three-time winner of The Best Bard in Mondstadt, did you know? I think there are still some guys mad about that. My songs?– Oh, do you like them? I should write a song about you, but the wind in the branches tells me something. Listen– it says, Venti, be lazy... do nothing... Can't you hear? ”

Listening to him talk was rather refreshing for the Harbinger, letting out a chuckle at his antics and fantastic story-telling ability. Due to her current affiliations, Vera had limited the people she allowed herself to speak with within Mondstadt, both not wanting to be found out and cause more wariness from locals directed to the Fatui's actions.

So to have an actual conversation—with an old friend nonetheless—was more than welcome to her. Though she would not admit it so easily.

" Your songs can touch even the most closed-off of hearts, Venti. You have a certain... charisma that makes people want to open up. "

She would know.

Making sure her coattails wouldn't get in the way, she sat down carefully on the edge of the cliff and let her legs dangle, inhaling the fresh air before exhaling softly. " ... I didn't know I still qualified as a child of Mond. " she said honestly. Quietly.

“ Aww, I'm flattered! ” Venti beams, leaning backwards and still swinging his legs. He's as calm as ever, really — still just as carefree as he's always been. Some things never change. “ The wind is always willing to listen, no? You don't need to be able to see it to know it's there. ”

For just a second, his eyebrows furrow– before that bright smile reappears on his face, expression smoothing out again. “ But of course you do! Once a child of Mond, always a child of Mond. The wind never forgets, ” he laughs cheerfully. “ And you shouldn't forget that either. You're always welcome here. ”

" ... " Vera said nothing more in response. Her silence said everything.

Her eyes stayed focused on the sun, already over halfway lowered and creating a mix of purples and yellows— familiar in the way her eyes resembled them. The stars had already started to make their appearance, and the moon slightly more visible than it was a few minutes ago.

Vera sighed again and looked away, eyes downcast towards her lap as she tried to shake away those nagging thoughts. Another breeze of wind ruffled her hair, which made her relax out of habit. She shouldn’t.

Taking a breath, she broke her silence. " I imagine a select few would prefer me away from here, if I am remembered at all. "

“ Pshhh! ” Venti shakes his head. Although his words are light, the tone he speaks in is so very gentle. “ There are people who want me away from Mondstadt — you think that'll stop me? This is my home. They'd be hard pressed to get me away from here, and– ” he smiles at her– “ I think you can have more than one home too. ”

“ Sure, there will be those who want you gone, ” he continues, “ But the wind will always welcome you here, even if nobody else does. Do you hear that? ” The Archon tilts his head to the wind. “ The wind's telling you to let your hair down a little. If they want you gone that badly, then you have three options: you can stay away from them specifically, you can ignore them, or you can run away back home. ” He crosses his arms at the last bit.

" I don't run away. " she said a bit defensively, but backtracked. Thinking back on it, she did technically run away when she left Mondstadt— " ... anymore. "

Vera shook her head and looked back at the sun; the yellow shine had lessened and started to make way for the stars to shine. Then her eyes looked over at the bard, carefully examining his expression and supposed carefree posture before closing her eyes, feeling the wind.

" ... When I lived here, I always thought that I was out of place. " her eyes opened just the slightest, star-shaped pupils duller than they used to be. " no matter how much I wanted to forget what kind of blood I carried, I couldn't. I knew the weight of it, even before I found out the truth of this world. But yet, when I left, and pledged myself to Her Majesty... "

She clicked her tongue quietly and leaned backwards against her hands, looking up at the darkening sky.

" I still missed Mondstadt. But now I'm back, and I grow nauseous if I am to be found by anyone but you. Odd, isn't it? "

He hums three or four notes of some ancient, long-lost memory that only Time remembers now. Seeds of stories... Ah, this isn't the time. Instead, Venti stretches out his hand to the wind, and feels the breeze between his ungloved fingers. “ Well, you don't feel nauseous when I'm here– that's something, if nothing else. ”

Venti pauses quietly, a thought occurring to him. “ I just want to check– did you ever feel unwelcome here, before? I mean, because of anything anyone said or did. ” He smiles. “ I like to make sure the City of Freedom really is... free, you know? ”

Vera briefly glanced over in Venti's direction before mulling his question over, running through as much as she could remember in her head with some difficulty. In her defense, it was hard at times to remember the good better than the bad.

" There were some people who poked fun, but that was a long time ago... I... suppose it was just... me. "

She slowly let her hands slip to let herself lie down on the grass, feeling the blades flutter against her in the direction the wind blew, sighing again as she reminisced.

" I just felt like I was just an insignificant presence; if I was taken out of this story, nothing would change. My brothers might've been happier without me— " but she quickly stopped herself, clearing her throat as her head turned to the side. " F-Forgive me, I've been talking a bit too much. "

He pulls his knees in slightly tighter to his chest. Almost, he knows the feeling. ( Perhaps. )

He tilts his head towards the breeze instinctively. “ They– ” he hisses, slightly, through his teeth for a second. “ ...it's complicated, I guess. Situations like yours are... hard to come by, and– it's not like there isn't a rift to mend. ” Harsher than he'd like ( although that's not particularly harsh at all. )

“ But everyone is crucial in this song that weaves the fabric of the world, wouldn't you say? You're no exception. You were– are– missed. ”

Visit was putting it mildly, it was more of a constant itch gnawing her, demanding her to end up in a place such as this. A place of nothing but ruins, lingering monsters and a select amount of Saurians.

But then, there was this one man, the one she followed under out of all the current Harbingers.

If to not make seem like she is purposefully ignoring Chasca, the pinkette shifted her head to the side, singular green hue staring back at.. one of the six Heroes, as far as Clervie recalls.

Maybe after feeling like she explored Natlan, she could drop by Fontaine, see how Lynette and all the other kids are doing.

She crosses her arms, and with a flick of her wrist the giant gun next to her hovers away to arrange itself neatly by a wall. As it does, she goes to stand next to her, eyes locked on The Captain.

“ The battle's already been long won, ” Chasca supplies. “ Now we're all just... getting back on our feet again. ”

And it did use to be a much more popular destination — although, she can't blame anyone for not coming any more. What else is there to say, or do?

To be back in the City of Freedom, the Nation of Wind, it was... conflicting. On one hand, it was her childhood home to where she swore her first oath to protect. The dandelions and windwheel asters a welcome sight to see once more. But the other...

She won't get into that.

But as of late, she had noticed the wind to be following her where she went. Whether by faintly guiding her to the abyssal camps she was purging, or giving her a gentle breeze when her mind started to remember past events.

Vera wasn't oblivious, she knew that some of these occurrences weren't coincidence. This was the land of the Anemo Archon, after all.

Venti appears behind her in a small burst of Anemo energy, head tilted. “ Aww, miss me? ” he jokes, that light-hearted smile on his face. “ I think it's been ever so long. Too long, in fact. ”

He's somehow an inch or so above the ground when he speaks, hovering there lightly. “ You haven't been here in a while, have you? ”

She let herself sigh quietly under her breath and stepped aside slightly to better look at Venti, taking in his appearance before looking back into the horizon, watching the sun slowly set.

" It's been a while, indeed. " her hands moved to fix the vest she had worn today, then readjusted her gloves. " You must have time on your hands if you decided to take on the role of watching over me. "

Vera raised an eyebrow and gave the bard a look, placing a hand on her hip as she now noticed him floating off of the ground. " You look lively as ever, Barbatos. Ah, but you go by Venti in this form, correct? I've heard your songs from inside Angel's Share. "

He moves to stand next to her, looking at the sunset as she does. “ I always love this of day in Mondstadt, ” he hums, a little quietly. “ Well– let's be honest, I'm probably biased, ” Venti chuckles. “ But I do always love the sunsets. ”

The Archon laughs again, resting his chin on his hand. He's found a rock to sit on now, just a few feet away from her, and he swings his legs. “ I don't know what you mean, ” he grins. “ Aren't I always like this? Plus, am I not allowed to watch over a child of Mond? ”

He talks an awful lot. (It wouldn't be him if he didn't.) “ Yup! Venti the bard; three-time winner of The Best Bard in Mondstadt, did you know? I think there are still some guys mad about that. My songs?– Oh, do you like them? I should write a song about you, but the wind in the branches tells me something. Listen– it says, Venti, be lazy... do nothing... Can't you hear? ”

Listening to him talk was rather refreshing for the Harbinger, letting out a chuckle at his antics and fantastic story-telling ability. Due to her current affiliations, Vera had limited the people she allowed herself to speak with within Mondstadt, both not wanting to be found out and cause more wariness from locals directed to the Fatui's actions.

So to have an actual conversation—with an old friend nonetheless—was more than welcome to her. Though she would not admit it so easily.

Making sure her coattails wouldn't get in the way, she sat down carefully on the edge of the cliff and let her legs dangle, inhaling the fresh air before exhaling softly. " ... I didn't know I still qualified as a child of Mond. " she said honestly. Quietly.

“ Aww, I'm flattered! ” Venti beams, leaning backwards and still swinging his legs. He's as calm as ever, really — still just as carefree as he's always been. Some things never change. “ The wind is always willing to listen, no? You don't need to be able to see it to know it's there. ”

For just a second, his eyebrows furrow– before that bright smile reappears on his face, expression smoothing out again. “ But of course you do! Once a child of Mond, always a child of Mond. The wind never forgets, ” he laughs cheerfully. “ And you shouldn't forget that either. You're always welcome here. ”

" ... " Vera said nothing more in response. Her silence said everything.

Her eyes stayed focused on the sun, already over halfway lowered and creating a mix of purples and yellows— familiar in the way her eyes resembled them. The stars had already started to make their appearance, and the moon slightly more visible than it was a few minutes ago.

Vera sighed again and looked away, eyes downcast towards her lap as she tried to shake away those nagging thoughts. Another breeze of wind ruffled her hair, which made her relax out of habit. She shouldn’t.

Taking a breath, she broke her silence. " I imagine a select few would prefer me away from here, if I am remembered at all. "

“ Pshhh! ” Venti shakes his head. Although his words are light, the tone he speaks in is so very gentle. “ There are people who want me away from Mondstadt — you think that'll stop me? This is my home. They'd be hard pressed to get me away from here, and– ” he smiles at her– “ I think you can have more than one home too. ”

“ Sure, there will be those who want you gone, ” he continues, “ But the wind will always welcome you here, even if nobody else does. Do you hear that? ” The Archon tilts his head to the wind. “ The wind's telling you to let your hair down a little. If they want you gone that badly, then you have three options: you can stay away from them specifically, you can ignore them, or you can run away back home. ” He crosses his arms at the last bit.

" I don't run away. " she said a bit defensively, but backtracked. Thinking back on it, she did technically run away when she left Mondstadt— " ... anymore. "

Vera shook her head and looked back at the sun; the yellow shine had lessened and started to make way for the stars to shine. Then her eyes looked over at the bard, carefully examining his expression and supposed carefree posture before closing her eyes, feeling the wind.

" ... When I lived here, I always thought that I was out of place. " her eyes opened just the slightest, star-shaped pupils duller than they used to be. " no matter how much I wanted to forget what kind of blood I carried, I couldn't. I knew the weight of it, even before I found out the truth of this world. But yet, when I left, and pledged myself to Her Majesty... "

She clicked her tongue quietly and leaned backwards against her hands, looking up at the darkening sky.
