So, I was scrolling through the internet and saw people discussing and comparing the designs of Yhwach and Tensa Zangetsu. And the very first thought that popped into my head when I saw the pictures was: "That's Yhwach's son."
And that's how this AU idea was born — where Tensa Zangetsu is actually a fragment of Yhwach, and thus his son. In this version, he'd be named Yūha. For those curious, "Yūha" means "Yahweh is merciful" or "Gift of God."
By the way, Yūha isn't just a copy of Yhwach — even though he's a fragment, he only shares some similar features, but he's not identical, which makes him his own person, not a clone.
As for his backstory: Yūha would end up in Rukongai, in one of the outer districts, and later enroll in the Shinigami Academy. He'd genuinely believe he's a Shinigami, completely unaware of his Quincy nature. That's why all his techniques would seem off — because he's not actually a Shinigami, and his Quincy powers would just adapt to the circumstances, creating an illusion of Shinigami techniques. For example, when using Shunpo (flash steps), Yūha would essentially gather reishi under his feet to form a platform and slide on it like ice skates, which would let him change direction mid-air.
After the Academy, Yūha would end up in the 8th Division under Captain Kyōraku. I thought long and hard about which division to put him in, and I realized that in the 8th, he'd get the fewest questions.
His Hadō — say, Hadō #4 — would just be incomplete, half-formed arrows.
Also, Yūha would unknowingly create a fake Bankai for himself, naming it "Nebel Nichtsein" (Mist of Non-Existence). In that form, he'd manifest the black robes of Tensa Zangetsu from canon, and his Bankai would manifest as a space filled with water that slows down enemies while allowing Yūha to move freely.
He'd also have another attack within his "Bankai" — "Nebel Zerstörung" (Mist of Devastation) — a defensive technique that creates a dense wall made of reishi.
