It seems the consensus is "morbid fascination" so:
Organ transplanting has long been explicitly tied to murder
Seriously, the pioneers of the science were eugenicists and atheists
Seriously seriously, Lindbergh kidnapping in 1932 was probably medical experimentation for organ transplant
Well, anyway, the majority of organ transplants were, for a very long time, from people who had died (or "died") in car crashes
But when seatbelt laws came into place and 80% of people now wear seatbelts and fewer people were dying in crashes, one unintended consequence was that fewer organs were available for transplant
So the medical community came up with the legal definition of "braindead" in order to harvest the organs of people who were in comas.
Like, we used to have full on coma wards to house comatose people and they were affordable enough for everyday people to fund coma patients for decades and now it's basically impossible unless you've got Amazon money.
(Interesting activity is to watch a TV show where a character is in a coma. If the character wakes up, there's an 96% chance the show was made pre-2000 and if it's about letting the person die and move on peacefully, it's a 74% chance it came out after 2000. I don't have any studies supporting these numbers, but trust me, it's science.)
But braindead isn't a medical term. It's a legal term. And people have woken up from it. There are even cases of people waking up during organ harvesting.
Like it is very much murder in just about every case.
There are also cases of doctors declaring a patient dead before brain death in order to harvest organs, going and telling the family they're dead, and then getting the family to sign off on organ harvesting.
"oh, that's illegal," so is not wearing your seatbelt but 20% of people still don't do it
You know what else is illegal? Buying organs. And yet Steve Jobs got a liver transplant way faster than basically anyone on a transplant list had before. And another millionaire had multiple heart transplants to keep living, despite the fact that hearts are a rare thing.

And if you go to China and need a transplant, you can get one in a few days because they're harvesting from Uyghurs in the concentration camps
But in places without concentration camps, it's very hard to get organs.
Currently, the number one location of organ donors in Canada are from MAiD recipients.
And Australia has a very high percentage of their organ donations coming from suicide.
And did you know if you were hospitalized for covid or a related stroke, heart attack, etc., your organs can be transplanted too?
Wow I wonder if some of the reason governments are passing laws that keep people depressed and sick is to appease wealthy elitists who will donate exorbitant funds to hospitals in exchange for a new liver or heart.
