I wrote a dumbass rant concerning Bruce and Dick and fandom. It’s probably poorly worded and not great. It has pictures.

So idk, maybe it’s because I love the Bruce/Dick relationship so much, but I hate hate hate the retcon that Bruce was distant and cruel and manipulative toward Dick when he first took him in. I hate it. With the power of a million suns.

And yeah, I’m probably the only person who gives two fucks about this and it was a thousand years ago, but I wish that people would remember that, before the later eras came along and made everything grimdark, Bruce and Dick’s early relationship was literally this:

My favourite thing about Dick and Bruce’s relationship is that they both think that the other one is the the best person that ever lived.

(The second favourite is of course is how when they get into a fight, Bruce pretends he’s a Vulcan and Dick points a lot. And they still love each other the best.)

Can we just appreciate the fact that in a world where Bruce’s parents never died and he never met Dick, (who was murdered by the same people who killed John and Mary) Bruce is still haunted by the boy’s memory and can’t help but think that he could have done something to save the kid.

It’s also finding Dick’s corpse here that starts to really make Batman fight back against what is really happening— which is that Dr. Hurt and his men are extracting Bruce’s real memories, while attempting to distract him with a fake life made of his worst fears.
