MORE BLACK MAGICAL GIRLS MORE LATINA MAGICAL GIRLS MORE INDIGENOUS MAGICAL GIRLS MORE TRANS MAGICAL GIRLS
“Why does this character have to be Black?”
Why shouldn’t they be?
“Why does this character have to be a woman?”
Why shouldn’t she be?
“Why does this character have to be gay?”
Why shouldn’t they be?
“Why does this character have to be trans?”
Why shouldn’t they be?
“Why does this character have to be disabled?”
Why shouldn’t they be?
“Why does this character have to be fat?”
Why shouldn’t they be?
"Why does this character have to be..."
Translation: why doesn't this character cater to me, (usually a cis, white man) specifically.
Fascinating how what's considered feminine and what's considered masculine can change over time. The rebranding of being a horse girl into being a stereotypical feminine girly trait needs to be studied.
Look at classic children's novels. As recently as the 50s and early 60s, being obsessed with horses as a girl was depicted as strange and tomboyish, and the very concept of being obsessed with horses from early childhood and loving toy horses and desperately wanting your own horse being a "little girl thing" and not a "little boy thing" would send someone from the 1800s and earlier into a coma.
There's maybe a point to be made here somewhere about how when keeping and riding horses stopped being necessary to the functioning of society and became a more "frivolous" thing, it was rapidly rebranded as silly and girly and for women, but what do I know.
i wrote a paper in my masculinity studies class in college about this exact phenomenon, specifically about how high heeled shoes started as a practical way for Persian cavalry to keep their feet on their stirrups, then likely due to that association, became a popular fashion item and status symbol among the upper classes of Europe, before the Great Male Renunciation of the 18th-19th centuries, when men started shunning opulence in favor of utility, leaving them as a fashion item for women instead.
I've joked that the two genders are Aesthetic and Utility before but thats just kinda the case
Important detail: "Utility" is often not the same as actual utility. It's often the presentation of utility.
The trend a few years back for men to wear macrame bracelets and justify them as a way to always carry cordage so they could survive in the wilderness wasn't based on the actual behavior of cord that's been knotted for an extended period of time. It was based on the self-image of being someone who's likely to get into survivalist situations and excel at them. (and possibly on liking the aesthetics of the bracelet but not feeling able to choose to wear it unless it had a "utility" justification)
"Toph did not have a 'life changing field trip with Zuko' episode because, being absent from season 1, she did not have significant Zuko-related trauma to unpack" - reasonable, sensible, passible explanation.
"Toph did not have a 'life changing field trip with Zuko' episode because doing so would have meant sacrificing Ember Island Players, thus denying the Avatar crew the opportunity to have the stupidest pre-series-finale recap episode ever" - stronger, smarter, worthy of throwing hands over
Toph didn’t have a life-changing field trip with Zuko episode because the fallout would’ve taken a fourth season to clean up.
I think I should start bragging about my adopted son’s achievements when people around me start bragging about their kids. Ooooh your child can count to 10 in mandarin? Well, my child found 110 landmines! And he’s only 6 years old!
I <3 HeroRats, I've been following them for years and they're still one of my favorite things
(I also <3 rats, and used to have pet rats, so admittedly I am super biased, but they're such sweet babies! Forget the anti-rat propaganda!)
Dr. Cindy Fast, APOPO's Head of Training and Innovation, explains how the adorable 'HeroRATS' are saving lives across the globe.
You can adopt a baby yourself here ;)
There are also HeroRats saving lives by sniffing out tuberculosis, illegal wildlife trafficking products, and survivors of natural disasters during search and rescue operations! (source)
The new Odyssey adaptation has inevitably gotten people talking about a Muppet version of it, and they’re frequently suggesting Kermit as Odysseus, Miss Piggy as Penelope.
I’m sorry but that’s thinking way too small, hear me out:
We need to have Miss Piggy as Odysseus, and Kermit as Penelope.
Think about it… who’s the more fickle, prideful, warlike one in that relationship? Who is absolutely ready to go ham, at a moment’s notice?
It ain’t Kermit
Miss Piggy tied to the mast while Statler and Waldorf heckle her from the sea
Descendants would be so much better as a franchise if they just embraced the lesbians.
Most of their audience is queer and/or women they would get like so much fucking money if they just gave us lesbians.
ashes to ashes, dust to dust, reeses to pieces
And sluts to sluts.
amen
thank you books!! thank you tv shows!! thank you music!! thank you concerts!! thank you movies!! thank you video games!! thank you crafts!! thank you napping!! thank you escapism!!!
I liked this post, scrolled for like another minute before I went “SHIT FUCK SHIT” and scrolled back to reblog it
I always reblog this one when I see it on my dash. When someone posts their own art, writing, or music here they are really hoping you will share it.
Genuinely this is such a touching idea
All this stuff is probably true, but it makes it sound like the workers are contaminating lettuce.
Wide-spread produce contamination happens through dirty irrigation water that sewage has leaked into.
Even if workers were taking shits in the field, it wouldn’t be enough to make these events and someone with intestinal diseases wouldn’t last long out doing manual labor in the hot sun (ask me how I know).
Food borne illnesses are almost always from shortcuts companies do to save a few bucks (don’t test the water, don’t test the produce, etc.)
The throuples in sense8 are so fucking funny like what do you mean "two gay men and their fujoshi" and "your regular 'straight" indian couple and their german mobster boyfriend" are both 100% canon
I’m not Christian, I don’t go to church anymore, and my pastor died, but when he was alive I’d sometimes go to his sermons and I remember one time he said “it feels good to hate, but we know that it isn’t allowed, so when we’re told that we’re allowed to hate someone we get so excited that we forget we’re supposed to love”, and if my humble atheist ass might borrow some church talk I’d like to perhaps submit that
Anyhow sometimes on the day to day I feel disgust or revulsion and I have to ask myself “is this a danger to anyone at all or am I just looking for something I’m allowed to hate” and a solid 98/100 times it’s the latter so once again thank you pastor D
