Okay like- listen, I'm not a super scholarly autist. I'm educated and literate of course, I graduated highschool (albeit like 4 years late), but I have the attention span of a coked up chipmunk, so I've never exactly been able to really pour myself into novels.
I do, however, love to read fanworks, comics, and roleplays based around my special interests. I'm a very visual person, I'm drawn to media that catches the eye. You got a cool art style? Is your worldbuilding mint? Are your characters compelling and relatable? Do you sprinkle some dank memes between some gut punching feels? I dig that! Fanartists 9 times out of 10 have good, high quality content- cuz nerds make food to be consumed by other nerds. And y'know what? I like a good written ship! Any ship! Platonic, romantic, situationship, deep bonds that go so far beyond simple labels? I'll eat it.
WITH THAT BEING SAID- why is EVERY. COMMERICAL. BOOK. so riddled with smut and pages upon paaages of awkward sexual tension? Barring books made for literal children, the market for cool adult fantasies is like 10% actual fantasy stuff and 90% HORNY. "Oh, sex sells, it's always been like that!" I know that! Every YA dystopia and werewolf boyfriend POV and dark romance CNC fetish-fantasy-fulfillment make themselves VERY obvious who they're intended for.

They've gotta break it to me, that these books are not, in fact, an epic fantasy adventure starring dragons. Oh no, the dragons take a back seat, they're just an accessory for the MAIN meat of the story. Which is? HORNY FUCKING COLLEGE KIDS (who just so happen to be dragon riders, and there's a war or some shit, and the government is lying about it, w/e) BUT WHO CARES ABOUT ALL THAT? DON'T YOU WANNA READ ABOUT THE MC AND HER SEXUAL ESCAPADES WITH HER QUADRANGLE OF 2 OR 3 LOVE INTERESTS??
NO. No, I do not. Maybe this was already common knowledge but, ONCE AGAIN, IM AN ADHDUMBASS AND AM NOT VERSED IN THESE THINGS.
But, maybe that's just a me problem. Maybe I just don't get what's hip with the youth. Maybe a book with dragons all over it, isn't supposed to draw the attention of a 'tistic dragon lover. I'm LEGALLY blind- and even with my glasses, I can't read long walls of text too well. Just the other day in fact, we stopped at Costco to try to find some reading specs for my S.O. too. I grabbed a random book off the shelf for them to test read. Something cutesy and seasonal. I'll grab this, turn to a random page aaand..
...you know. Maybe books just aren't my medium. I'll stick with the fanmade.
