Ah, summer’s approaching. This includes warm breezes, blazing sunlight, and the harvesting from Umemiya’s garden on the school roof.
It’s supposed to highlight the brighter parts of life, no?
Gorgeous sunsets that bleed orange into the sky as students walk home from school.
Ice creams in hand, chattering about gossip and news and manga and everything else in between.
…And then there’s Haruka. Awfully quiet as he stomps out of Pothos Cafe (he had to eat something for dinner) with that scowl on his face that never left his face since they saw Suo’s “house”.
“Where the hell is he?!..” the boy mutters to himself, kicking stray pebbles on the ground as he walks past his apartment. He can’t afford to be alone right now.
He feels his eyes sting and hates feeling like this- so weak and fragile all over some dude lying about his address. Who would be stupid enough to do that anyways??
Sounds like Suo to lie about his house, though.
He punches a cardboard box in anger… then stopped after seeing that he had scared one of a stray cat’s nine lives out of its body.
Your house makes its way into view as he walked on, it being his sanctuary to life’s events.
Knock knock.
It takes a while for you to open the door- in your PJ’s and ready for bed when you catch a glimpse of a bead of sweat lingering on his cheek (he insists it is).
You don’t need to ask him, you knew about how much Haruka cared for his close friend.
You never judged, or laughed at his face. In fact, you were one of the first people he actually felt completely safe with.
That’s also why he found himself in your arms, silently sulking while resting his head on top of your shoulder.

No empty words of comfort, just your presence.
Showing him that you were there.
You understood.
You care.
For him, of course.
And for tonight? That might just be enough for him to let his eyelids flutter shut, slipping into a sleep that consists of dreams with you by his side.

as a huge fan of wind breaker but also a chinese person, i really hope suo's backstory doesnt spark any sinophobia in the fandom.
if you know anything about japan and china's relationship, you can probably guess why im a little concerned about a chinese character in manga. i trust nii sensei to not put anything actively racist in wb (since if that was his intent he probably wouldnt have had such an important character be chinese), but im a bit worried that the portrayal of suo's family might either have some unintentional stereotyping or would be misinterpreted by the fandom
its probably going to come out that the suo family is toxic in some way or the other (based on the implications and details), but i just hope the fandom wont make any assumptions based purely on what they know of chinese people (and vice versa). i think covid's shown how western communities can react towards any bad thing related to china, so i hope people can critique the actions of fictional characters without making it be about race

You know…every now and then…you can just come over for food
They both need this so much! Momijikawa needs someone to cook for again, someone to share a meal with and talk with over food. We saw him chapters ago still making double portions and having to pour food back in the pot. The way he said it felt like it’s been a long time—it has been. It’s been so long since he had a meal with someone else at home.
Sakura needs this too. He needs someone other tha Kotoha to cook meals for him, and he needs something other than omurice or whatever he gets from the market or tries to cook. He needs someone to share a meals with at home too. They both need someone share a meal with and I’m just so happy they have that now
