a small update

hi friends it is me, I am still alive I promise!

I’ve just not been feeling it on the blogging front lately? I lost a lot of interest in my hobbies for a while there bc Anxiety Happened but I’m working on picking things back up now. I’ve got four books checked out from the library and I’m working on crochet projects to give my relatives for Christmas. All that + work and attempting to maintain a baseline level of control over Responsible Adult Activities like maintaining a clean apartment and cooking = not really having much to blog about, I guess. If I draw things I like I’ll post them and I’ll probably pop in and read/like stuff from my mutuals but that’s gonna be about it for a while I think

so it just hit me but I think I’m terrified of not understanding things. like I’ve known for a while that fandom communities just in general stress me out, and I wasn’t sure quite why, but I’m pretty sure it’s that I feel like everyone else has a really deep, nuanced, mature understanding of the canon and I’m just goofing around with my superficial misunderstandings like a fool and making everyone cringe. and I’m excessively nervous about asking questions/proposing new courses of action/generally drawing attention at work/school because I feel like I’m probably wrong and just going to mess everything up. this is probably ALSO why I research everything so intensely and never get around to writing real fanfic--i can be certain that my 1830s dresses look like 1830s dresses, but I can’t persuade myself that my characterization will ever be anything but a pile of fanon stereotypes and misconceptions

I have no idea how I’m gonna get over this but I guess realizing it is the first step

The Mothman Statue that is located in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, is now a popular tourist attraction since its unveiling in 2003. The statue was created by sculptor Bob Roach who sadly passed away on August 30th 2013. The park that the statue stands in was even renamed Mothman Park from its former name - Gunn Park. It stands 12 feet tall and the original plans wanted the large red eyes to be able to glow at night, but funds for the statue came up a little short.

I actually had headcanons about this and forgot to say!! Yeah, I definitely think AM has common law marriage. I was thinking of it in terms of marriage by cohabitation with habit and repute, rather than declaration de presenti (probably bc habit-and-repute is the form that common law marriage still takes in most of the US states where it’s legal, of which there actually are some, so that’s what I am familiar with) but I bet both totally exist (apparently you used to be able to do both in Scotland at one point?)

Anyway so I think it’s very common to just move in with your spouse, call yourself their spouse, and live together as spouses and that is one form into which you can enter a marriage (I feel like there’s Fake-Accidentally-To-Real Marrieds potential here somewhere) or you can go up to a couple of witnesses and be like “we’re married okay? okay cool*” and, as you say, Hilarious Misunderstandings

side note but I bet in Lancre, marriage by declaration in the presence of witnesses is the most common thing? if you Really Want To you can get the king to do you a certificate or something but most people don’t bother about it

*i know TECHNICALLY it’s more complex than that but that is, i feel, the gist of most marriage vows
