I think the best thing about danganronpa is that it's very bad and very good. Not so bad that it's good though, that's different. It's like, every individual aspect of danganronpa is awful, and if you try to explain it to people who haven't played it they give you That Look, but it's also, separately, very fun even though it sucks. "I like danganronpa" is a complete and difficult-to-challenge statement. "What do you like about danganronpa" is an impossible question to answer.
my life sucks have some togami
bad news guys i just found out i symbolize hope within the narrative so thereās gonna be a critical turning point where i die to symbolize despair š° maybe iāll get to appear as a ghost or hallucination or something later to show all is not lost?
booooooooring
your writing is so incredibly fun!!!!
cannot express the amount of enjoyment i get out of the bowtie polycule rivalry i get so giddy..!!! i dont have any specific scenarios in mind for them but id love to see more of them in general hehe
additionally! kind off topic about the bowtie polycule (or i guess it could be still applicable?) what's your take on byakuya's "soft side"? i love to parouse everyone's interpretations of him and ive seen a lot of different headcanons on what font byakuya's tsundere-isms take (i.e. he has a pre-existing soft spot or so buried deep under his pride for protection VS he's genuinely just Like That and learns to make room for compassion/affection/vulnerability/etc. in is heart over time) along with what form his displayd of affection or "softness" take, and id love to hear yours as well!!!!
hopefully this ask isn't too overbearing lol, i just love your work and i genuinely just scroll through your blog for hours on end sometimes!! hope you're having a great day!!!
Thank you!!
I think my interpretation of Byakuya's soft side is taken mostly from the offer he gives Makoto in his free-time events. I think pre-character-development Byakuya's version of softness is extreme generosity wrapped in self-serving language. Transactional affection is clean and not at all vulnerable, especially since he'll always have the upper hand in the language of money. He feels safe drowning his feelings in wealth.
I think the part where it gets very subjective is deciding how to interpret how little that particular sum of money matters to him. From his perspective, is this "For just a penny a day, you get to keep this wacky luckster's attention pretty much forever," or is this, "I like him and I can't express that so here's a life-changing amount of money"? Or both! He's learned how much it costs to "buy" a normal person, and knowing that protects him from having to engage with people emotionally.
Actually having to address how he feels about someone is a crisis scenario, for him. If the money isn't doing its job and separating him from the vulnerability of caring about people, then that's like an organ is failing him. Something essential to his system of living. The suggestion "Learn how to just tell people that you love them" is like saying "Learn how to just have a knife in your stomach."
For Bowtie Polycule AU, naturally we have post-character-development Byakuya, which just means he's a bit better at vulnerability when he's in private with Makoto and Kyoko. When around other people, he expresses love in mostly possessive terms.
Nagito probably likes to needle his reluctance to show affection. But in turn, Byakuya can needle Nagito's reluctance to express ownership.
you know that one comic where there's a person holding up a heavy boulder but then someone walks by and says "you don't have to do that, dumbass" and they let go and the boulder floats and their whole life is a lie and a whole crowd of people shows up to point and laugh and call them a dumbass. that's togami to me
Thinking heavy about the THH cast again. Mostly how they are the first game and how they are the only participants that actually died (not counting the DR3 future arc cast, Iām only discussing the games atm).
In Goodbye Despair they are in a simulation. Their deaths are felt but their atrocities still exist and so do they.
In V3 they are actors in another (different) simulation. Their deaths were felt but temporary. Contrived and written. False.
But Class 78, all the blackeneds and all the victims died. They didnāt wake up. They didnāt rise at the end to greet the Makoto, Kyoko, Aoi, Hiro, Toko, and Byakuya as they exited the school.
That simple fact breaks my heart. The others got the opportunity to change and learn and grow, meanwhile, THH ends with six students exiting to the end of the world with their friends and fellow students not with them anymore. No second chances.
I know that is what facilitates Makoto and fellow future foundation members to create the Neo-world program in the first place, to save the otherwise despair riddled Class 77. To give them a chance that their classmates did not get. It just makes me profoundly sad.
Makoto, Kyoko, Aoi, Hiro, Toko, and Byakuya, no one can make me hate you.
going thru byakuyas school mode and oh my GOD HE IS SO FUNNY. you ask him a normal ass question and sometimes hes like First off. how Dare you ask me that? Second off. i am Strong and you are Weak. third off. that's Personal. You Crossed A Line Little Man. and the question is some shit like "what is your favorite color"
this is in response to being asked if he plays any instruments. and i bet you thought i was exaggerating
