Toka huffed a laugh, her sharp eyes closing as she tried to surprws the amusement. Haahirama had asked her to train with Kaname, to show her some weaponry and how to handle it. Knowing full well that his cousin is a stern woman who isn't beyond yelling at a disciple until they are sobbing on the ground.

Kaname was an exemption. She adored her and Toka also couldn't deny, how much she wanted to laugh at the puns but she shouldn't. She hadn't been seen laughing that hard in public and she tried to keep that facade up.

He hated it when she called him Hashi-chan. First, his name was Hashirama. Second, he always felt too young and infantile. "You deserve to be hyped up, Toka. Toka squinted her eyes at her cousin. She even made a show of leaning in closer, it almost made her look like she was straining to hear him but then she whispered. "I do hope it is one of the good songs at least. Though I think you need something a little more.. girly pop for me. I am trying to pick up a pretty woman after all."

The Clan structure:

Clan Leader

Has an absolute authority. His word overrides the council. It's an inherited position - the first child inherits the position.

Senjus' Council

A group of shinobi who advise the leader.

They have more soft power - influence, traditions, not a final say.

They are usually conservative, war-focused, traditionalistic, rigid.

If one dies, they are replaced by someone else who is voted in or selected by the Clan Leader.

2. Economy & Poverty The Senju are mercenaries, not nobility. They don't own land, they don't collect taxes, they don't have a stable income.

Their money comes from:

paid missions

escort jobs

bounty hunting

protection contracts

occasional alliances with daimyō

This income is:

unstable

seasonal

dependent on war

dependent on reputation

easily sabotaged by rival clans

this is why they send children to wars with other clans, because more fighters = more money = less starvation

Mission Payment structure Senju shinobi keep most of their mission earnings, but are required to give approximately 25% to the clan treasury as tax. This system exists because:

the clan needs communcal funds for food, medicine, weapons, and repairs

individual shinobi still need personal money for clothing, tools, repairs, and small comforts

it prevents total poverty while still supporting the clan as a whole

it encourages shinobi to take missions without feeling exploited

it's a balanced survival system, not a feudal one.

it reinforces communal responsibility, clan loyalty, shared survival, but it can also create tension

3. Senju Clan Household Structure

The Senju don't live in one house They live in one compound, which is essentially a mini-village, enclosed by wooden and brick walls, and guarded gates. Inside it contains:

Training yards

Dojos

Storage buildings

Weapon storages

Medical tents

The famous Senju diner

Family houses: Each family has a house of their own in the compound. Those are usually Japanese traditional houses. They have a kitchen, fireplace

The Senju Diner/Eatery: The Senju have a communal diner run by older clan members and aunties who no longer fight. It serves food for lunch and dinner. At night, it becomes a drinking place. It serves:

rice

broth

pickled vegetables (tsukemono)

fish when available

ume

cheap, filling food

People eat there because:

food is sometimes rationed

not every shinobi has time to cook

it reinforces clan unity

it keeps children fed when their parents are on missions

It's also a place where:

gossip spreads

alliances form

people drink

elders argue

there's no privacy

4. Senju Clan & Spirituality The Senju are not a religious clan. Mainly because their worldview mirrors the cultural reality of Japan. People don't follow strict doctrine or belong to exclusive religious institutions. Instead they practice:

seasonal rituals

ancestor offerings

purification customs

shrine visits

festivals

but they do not:

worship a single god

pray to deities

believe in divine punishment

follow a goly book

have clergy dictating morality

belong to a church-like structure.

It's a culture of ritual and tradition without dogma and theology. Their worldview is shaped by survival, community, nature, the cycle of seasons, the memory of the death. They believe in omens as every culture does.

Gently she cards the hair together, keeping it up and out of Kaname's face before tying them up into a knot. Removing her own hair hair stick, she uses it to keep Kaname's bun in place. "This should keep it off your neck and back." Toka usually has a rather gruff appearance, a woman that is prideful and strong.. But she often becomes soft around those she cares for.
