‘The key’s under the little ceramic squirrel’, her patient had said. She’d looked for keys in odder places, under fake rocks and even fake dog poop once. But a ceramic squirrel was certainly a new one. When Sara came up the porch steps, adjusting her bag, and saw what Rebecca had meant, she couldn’t help but smile. Sure enough, perched on the porch banister was a soft grey ceramic squirrel, sitting up on its hind legs. And when Sara moved it aside, there was the house key, tucked right underneath the base. Definitely a cute hiding place.
She didn’t expect anything less from her patient, though. Rebecca was definitely the sort to do something like this. Unlocking the door and stepping in, Sara set the key on the little table by the doorway and called out as she slipped off her shoes.
“Hello! Rebecca honey, it’s Sara!”
“Hi! Back here…” Came Rebecca’s soft voice, and Sara smiled knowingly as she picked up her trusty bag and headed to the back room that served as Rebecca’s ‘office’.
Sure enough, when Sara poked her head in, she found her patient snuggled up in a beanbag chair with one leg tucked underneath her, a game controller held in both hands, and her very prominent belly resting in her lap. Her hoodie was half-heartedly drawn around the bump and falling off of one shoulder.
With a smile, Sara immediately shrugged her bag off and plopped onto the floor next to the beanbag, leaning over to give Rebecca a soft hug. “Hey sweetheart. Whatcha playing?”
As they pulled apart, Sara blinked at the screen, and Rebecca giggled softly as she looked back at the TV, wiggling the controller in one hand and palming her belly with the other hand. “Just messing around in Minecraft right now…I wanted something I could focus on but that I could easily pause.”
“Gotcha, probably not a good idea to be doing anything on servers right now.” Sara smirked, and Rebecca giggled softly, shaking her head.
“No, definitely not.”
“Alright, well, are ya safe? I got some questions I need to ask you.” Sara looked back at the screen, and Rebecca nodded, holding the controller again and moving into her little cobblestone house.
“Yep, we’re good. I just quick built this shelter…”
“Gotcha. Alright. So, how long ago was it that your water broke?”
“Uhm.” Clicking the game onto pause, Rebecca grabbed her phone off of the beanbag and peeked at it. “Like forty-five minutes now I guess. I’ve been…having contractions off and on all morning but it got real when my water broke.”
“Yeah, sounds about right. Have you been timing your contractions?”
“Yep, it’s all right there. I used that app you recommended.”
“Oh excellent.” Sara grinned as she took the offered phone, leaning back on one hand and scrolling through the previous contractions with her thumb. “Mhm. Looking just about right for early labor. Have you eaten, you got water nearby?”
Rebecca smiled sheepishly. “Yeah, I had a snack…and I’ve got water over here. I’ve been trying to do better about that since you fussed at me last time.”
That gave Sara a big grin, and she nodded proudly. “That’s my girl. Well, if you’re good, don’t let me stop you playing, you can keep going, I’ll just watch and time contractions for ya.”
As she took her phone back, Rebecca blinked at her midwife, slowly setting it down and picking up her controller again. “Really? You sure?”
“Oh yeah.” Sara waved a hand in the air and stretched out her legs. “I watch my partner Syd play games all the time. Watching them play Skyrim is like, one of our favorite date nights. I make snacks and everything.”
Rebecca melted into a small smile and nodded, her eyes softening. “Okay, if you’re sure…playing really is helping me keep, like…centered.”
“Have at it. Just don’t go to the Nether or anything, that’s too much.”
“Oh no way.” Rebecca laughed and snuggled back into the beanbag as she unpaused her game, heading out the door of her small house. “I need to find some diamonds first.”
“Oh lordy.” Sara chuckled and shook her head, then reached over and snuck her patient’s phone over onto her lap so she could time contractions.
–
The first time Sara had met Rebecca, she was halfway startled at how withdrawn and shy the young woman had been. She wouldn’t answer any details about her situation, just that she was alone, pregnant, and needed to know what to do.
Sara had done her usual ‘first prenatal appointment’ song and dance, but kept it much slower and gentler. Working on instinct, she made sure to tell the young mom exactly what she was doing before she did it, as well as explain why she was asking each question that she asked.
Her baby was measuring a bit large for how long she’d been pregnant, but Rebecca had said her calculations were totally correct…and when she did so, she refused to make eye contact with Sara, staring holes into the wall opposite the exam table, so she didn’t push the matter.
At the end of the scheduled appointment, Sara wrote both her office phone and her personal cell phone on a business card and pressed it into Rebecca’s palm, insisting that she could call her with any question, no matter how silly it felt. Even if she just wanted to talk, she could call her.
She also asked if the young woman might want to come back to the facility for a tour the next week, and Rebecca, staring down at the business card in her hand, nodded before silently leaving the office.
Sara hadn’t been sure the withdrawn young woman would show up, but there she was the next week, in a dark hoodie and leggings, exactly on time for her appointment.
They’d taken a slow and easy walk through the birth center, Sara taking a while to explain things about the beds being able to move, showing her the silks, the yoga balls, the big tubs, and telling a few stories of some of the babies that had been born here over the years, including the one that had popped out in the front parking lot. The two of them finally moved down the hall and out to the back gardens, and Sara told her about the mom that sat on the edge of the fountain and had her baby sitting right there, like she’d been waiting to find that spot.
Rebecca still didn’t speak much, but Sara caught her taking a few notes on her phone, and there was a small bit of a smile on her face when she left. She even waved at Sara as she walked out the doors.
Her next appointment was where things changed a bit. It was obvious that Rebecca had become a bit more accustomed to coming to the building, and she even made a bit of conversation with Sara while she got settled on the table.
The baby was still looking to be a bit on the larger side, and Sara tried to keep things a bit lighter, making some jokes as she worked with the ultrasound machine. To her surprise, Rebecca seemed a bit more receptive, actually laughing and making a joke back on her own, something about her cravings.
When Sara helped her clean off her belly and sit up, she asked if Rebecca had any final questions for her, as she usually did.
That’s when the young woman finally opened up to her.
Sitting there in the exam room, pulling at her fingers in her lap (what was left of her lap anyway, the part that wasn’t taken up by baby belly), Rebecca told Sara everything.
She was a streamer, she’d begun playing video games online with friends and solo to help bring in some extra cash, with her social anxiety she wasn’t very equipped for a ‘regular’ job like retail. She’d found her niche, and settled into a very comfortable and fun hobby that quickly turned into a bit more than that.
When she was invited to a small gaming convention a state over, she’d been ecstatic. She’d been invited by one of the people who had become a loyal fan of hers, they’d bought her pass and even arranged for their hotel stay.
The con was a blast, some of the most fun she’d had in her entire life. She felt comfortable, and surrounded by like-minded people, her anxiety was almost nonexistent during the whole weekend.
However, one of the last nights of the convention, there was a room party, and after some drinks and some bad decisions, she ended up spending the night with the person who had invited her. She’d woken up the next morning in a panic, knowing she’d probably gone too far.
When she realized a month later that she’d gotten pregnant, she’d immediately called her friend, only to be met with a message that she’d been blocked. She’d tried to find him on every social media and gaming platform, and there was no getting in touch with him at all. She’d been ghosted.
At first, she wasn’t sure what to do. But there’d been a small, private rallying of support from a few of the people she frequently gamed with, and she’d decided to keep the baby. But those walls that had been let down during that weekend? They’d been put right back up and reinforced, and it was going to take a lot for anybody to see behind them.
That, she explained, was why she’d been odd when she’d first come to the center. She wasn’t sure if a birth center was the right idea for her, but as soon as she met Sara, and saw the pretty grounds and heard how they talked to the parents that came in, she felt a bit safer. Safe enough to talk to Sara, let her know what was going on, and ask her to help her have this baby safely, maybe even at a home birth so she could play video games and feel as safe as possible in her own space?
When she trailed off, the room was silent, save for a sniffle or two from Sara’s side of the room. After a few moments, the midwife stood and pulled Rebecca into a huge, soft, squishy hug. She rubbed her back and reassured her that she’d be there for her every step of the way, there was nothing to worry about, and she could call her anytime of the day or night, even if she just needed to hear her on the other side of the phone.
From then on, through the entire rest of Rebecca’s pregnancy, the two had become fast friends, even playing a few games online together once or twice (Mostly Sara showing off her Animal Crossing island to Rebecca and them hitting each other with nets, to be fair).
And now that it was time to bring this baby into the world, Sara was all but honored to be here with Rebecca, to help guide her through this step in her journey to be a mom. She knew the young woman was equipped and ready.
–
As an hour crept by, and then another half, Rebecca’s contractions began to get more and more intense and closer together. But she was still gaming, eyes remaining focused on the screen and fingers on the buttons and joysticks as she puffed her cheeks and breathed through each surge.
Sara murmured soft reminders of breath, of loosening hips, of staying calm, but most of them were unneeded. Rebecca was focused and nicely distracted, and the beanbag allowed her to wiggle and move her hips as much as she needed to while she was contracting. The two of them were mostly more focused on the game, Sara pointing out anything that she missed seeing in her distracted state, like some gold in a wall or a stray zombie behind her.
But with the last contraction and the one she was currently working through, Sara detected a change.
Mainly that Rebecca had actually paused the game and put the controller down to concentrate, resting her palms on her knees and pressing her elbows straight as she puffed her cheeks in deep breaths.
Smiling, Sara reached over and softly rubbed her upper back with one arm, phone held in the other hand. “Nice work, those are perfect deep breaths. Get all that good oxygen down to that chunky baby.”
“Ooooh.” Rebecca groaned as she finished her exhale, then closed her eyes and flopped her head back against the beanbag. Palming her belly in one hand, she tried to catch her breath, a few beads of sweat appearing on her forehead. “...Kay, I think I need to…”
“Yep. Want me to close the game out?”
“Nono, I can…just gimme a second,” Rebecca panted, weakly waving her hand in the air. After a few moments, she lifted her head again and papped at the buttons on the controller, quickly saving her game and closing out of it before tossing the controller aside. Giving Sara a crooked smile, she wiped her forehead on her sleeve, heaving a big sigh.
“That was nice while it lasted.”
“Yeah, you did pretty good for a lady in labor.” Sara chuckled and gave her a wink, then shifted and stood up. “Alright. I think we should get you up and moving a little bit. Stretch, get the blood back into your legs some. Let that baby know you mean business.”
“Yeah, that sounds nice.” Rebecca nodded, tugging her hoodie on a little tighter before holding her arms up. Sara helped pull the very pregnant young woman to her feet, and Rebecca stretched a bit, hands planted on the small of her back and belly hanging low as she leaned and cracked her back.
“Mmh. Damn. Gravity is no joke.” She grumbled, bending forward and resting her hands on her knees.
“Yeah, a lot of moms say that. You having another one?” Sara leaned a little closer, and Rebecca shook her head, looking over at her.
“Not yet, baby’s just real low I guess. There’s like…pressure in my hips and stuff. Lots of it.”
“Okay, that’s a good sign. You want me to do a check and see how far along you-”
“Nope. Noooo. No thank you. I can say no, right?” Anxiety flashed in Rebecca’s eyes, and Sara immediately waved her off, nodding and moving to set her phone on the nearby computer table.
“Of course you can, this is your show. I’ll only tell instead of ask if I think something’s going sideways, and right now nothing is indicating to me that anything’s wrong. So you just rock it, mama, go with it.”
“Okay.” Looking relieved, Rebecca slowly straightened back up and swayed side to side, her eyes sliding closed. “Thanks.”
“You got it.” Rebecca smiled as she watched her, reaching out a hand and rubbing lightly at her back.
The two of them fell into silence as they waited, and Rebecca took a few deep breaths, slowly blowing them out with puffed cheeks.
When she began to contract again, she flailed one hand a bit, then groaned and leaned forward, planting one hand on her knee and tucking the other hand underneath her belly, almost on her pubic mound. Jaw slack, she scrunched her eyes shut and moaned her way through the surge, subtly rocking and swaying her hips side to side.
Watching with eagle eyes, Sara stilled her hand on the small of her back, but left it there, more as reassurance than any kind of massage. Rebecca seemed to be following her instincts well, her noises were nice and low in her chest. She just needed to continue to open and help bring that big baby down.
When the contraction finally slowed, she carefully stood back up, rubbing big circles on her belly. “Woof. It really like…turned a corner there all of a sudden.”
“Yeah, labor tends to do that, it can surprise us. You okay?” Sara looked at her with concern, and the laboring mom nodded in response, turning to fully face her midwife. She looked shy for a moment, and Sara just looked at her, then simply held out her arms.
Rebecca almost melted into her embrace, wrapping her arms loosely around Sara’s shoulders and nuzzling her face into the crook of her neck. Smiling, her midwife embraced her lightly, planting her feet on the floor and swaying them back and forth as she rubbed a palm up and down the new mom’s back. There didn’t need to be any words shared, the snuggle was all that mattered.
The two of them slowly and gently rocked, Sara keeping a steady foundation for Rebecca to lean her weight against. The new mom seemed to relax, her breathing steadying and deepening.
When the next contraction began to grip at Rebecca, at first she held on to Sara a bit tighter, nudging her nose into the crook of her shoulder.
But, as soon as her midwife began to rub her back, trying to soothe her, it was like the physical sensation of nails on a chalkboard rolled down her body. Grunting, Rebecca all but pushed Sara away and turned, planting her hands on her knees and bowing her head with a deep, uncomfortable moan.
Concerned, Sara laid a hand on the small of her back, only to be papped away with an angry, flailing hand. “Nuh.” Rebecca growled, and Sara quickly pulled away, a small, proud smile on her face unable to be hidden.
“I’m right here, Rebecca. You got this. Growl your way through it if you gotta.”
Huffing out a huge breath, the laboring mom closed her eyes and flexed her fingers on her knees, rocking her hips slowly from side to side. Her heart pounded against her ribcage as the pressure and sensation of the contraction rolled through her, and she knew she had to slow it down, because part of it was from anxiety and not just from the pain and surprise.
She forced herself to haul in another deep breath, then blow it out, and she could practically feel Sara’s approval radiating from next to her. ‘Focus,’ she reminded herself, words echoing in her fuzzy, overwhelmed brain. ‘You’re not alone and you can do this.’
When the contraction finally let go of her, she slowly straightened up and shoved her hands through her hair, fanning her sweaty forehead with one hand. Once she’d gathered herself, she chanced a glance at her midwife, and both of them dissolved into giggles.
“Sorry, I-”
“Don’t you even start. You told me what you needed, and for that I’m insanely proud of you. And trust me, I’ve been hit harder than that.” Sara snorted, glancing around the room before picking up a magazine and using it to help fan her sweaty patient.
“Can you articulate for me what you’re feeling?”
“Uhm.” Rebecca licked her lips and rested her hands on the small of her back, looking down at her belly as she shifted her weight from foot to foot. “A lot of…really intense pressure. Like a bowling ball or a bomb is sitting in my hips. And my back.”
“Mkay. Sounds about right. There’s some other positions you can try to help with that back labor you’re having, hands and knees is one-”
Rebecca held up a finger, eyebrows furrowing. “Nope. Not gonna happen.”
Sara blinked, but shrugged it off, noting the flash of regret in Rebecca’s eyes but pretending she didn’t see. “Fair enough. Does standing work?”
“Yeah, it’s the only thing that does right now.”
“Alright then. While you’re not contracting I can do some massage, that sound okay?”
Rebecca thought a minute, then nodded, sliding her hands around to hold the front of her belly. “Yeah, that’s fine I think…”
The two snuggled up again, Sara using her thumbs and knuckles to gently rub and press at her patient’s tight lower back muscles. As she did so, Rebecca slowly let her eyes slide closed and hummed to herself, trying to relax.
The next contraction hit her like a ton of bricks, though, and she peeled herself away from Sara and slammed her own hands into the small of her back, scrunching her eyes shut a bit tighter and more fitfully shifting from foot to foot as she tried to find her voice.
“Nice and easy, honey. Get some air.”
Rebecca grumbled, but did as Sara prodded, pulling in air through her nose and sighing it out deeply, voiced, and strong. This baby felt so, so heavy, and like it was all but rushing to come out, settled tightly into her hips. Bowing her head, she experimented with bending her knees a bit, then straightened again, pressing her hips forward.
This baby wanted out. They were coming, whether Rebecca was truly ready or not.
When the contraction finally moved through, Rebecca shook her hair out of her face and held her belly in both hands, slowly opening her eyes and looking at Sara. Her midwife met her gaze with a smile, then she quirked an eyebrow.
“Baby coming?”
At Rebecca’s nod, Sara grinned mischievously. “I could tell by those noises. Mkay, get comfy, mama. However you want. Standing, sitting, whatever you need. Wanna take that hoodie off?”
She didn’t need permission, she knew, but it felt good to have it anyway, to strip. During that last intense surge she’d had the urge to throw off her hoodie, but couldn’t follow it with a fuzzy brain.
With a grimace, Rebecca finally shrugged off her hoodie, then next her sweats, taking a moment to toss them over onto her bed before bending and resting her hands on her knees again. Blowing out a firm puff of air, she drew in another, slowly, then huffed it out as she stood back up, rubbing both hands up and down her belly. Without even looking at Sara, she waddled over to the beanbag and flopped back down into it, immediately leaning back and spreading her knees apart.
“Ahhh. Hahh.” She grunted, pulling her tank top up and fully off her taut belly. Right away Sara followed her, kneeling down on the floor next to her and resting her fingertips lightly on her elbow.
“I’m right here. This is the perfect spot for baby to come, okay?”
“Okay.” Rebecca whimpered back, her voice soft and full of breath. Slowly, she squirmed and shifted her way down into the beanbag more, arching her hips up a bit. Scrunching her eyes shut, she resisted the urge to look to Sara for approval and just…tried to focus on what her body needed, on what this baby needed.
As the next contraction crested, she dug her heels hard into the ground and sunk back into the beanbag, letting her head rest back and moaning deeply in her chest. There was so, so much pressure, she felt like she was going to tear apart.
And then, at the crest of the crashing wave of the surge, she felt an unmistakable kick in the pants, an almost craving to push. To bear down. With a big gasp of air, her eyes popped open and she whimpered, lifting her hips up off of the beanbag as she flailed a hand for Sara.
Immediately, Sara grabbed her hand in both of hers and held on tightly, lacing their fingers together. “I’m right here. Don’t run from that pressure, lean into it. Face it.”
“I can’t. I can’t!” Rebecca gasped, and Sara smiled a little bit, giving her hand a small pulse of a squeeze.
“Too bad. You’re already doing it. No giving up now. It’s time, honey. You gotta take control back.”
With a hoarse groan, Rebecca grabbed at her belly with her free hand, then slowly slid her fingertips down to her pubic mound. Growling through her nose, she huffed audibly with each heaving breath as she tried to regain control. Her eyes remained open as the contraction slowly faded in intensity, and she stared almost through the ceiling as she tried to catch her breath.
Slowly, she finally slid her hand down between her legs, pressing against her labia. A whimper slipped from her lips as she did so, and her eyelashes fluttered. After a moment, she licked her lips and let go of Sara’s hand, sliding both hands between her thighs and pressing against herself.
“There ya go,” Sara whispered, nodding and drawing a little closer. “Nice and easy. Think about that baby. They’re all yours, Rebecca, not anybody else’s. This journey is all yours too, and you’re already so, so close to the finish line. You got this.”
There was a smile in her voice, Rebecca could feel it, and it reassured her. Inhaling deeply through her nose, she hummed out a slow breath and carefully explored with the pads of her fingers, stroking each side of her opening before letting her fingers graze her clit, just slightly.
A shiver ran up her spine, and she bit her lip, holding back the moan that threatened to come out. Letting her fingers rest on either side of her vagina, almost cradling her opening, Rebecca hauled in a deep inhale and sank into her first push, her grunt rumbling deep in her chest.
Almost immediately some fluid splashed around her fingers, and she flinched, crinkling her nose and turning her face away as she let go of her push and tried to grab an anxious breath.
There was Sara’s hand on her arm, and there was her calm and soothing voice. She tried to latch onto it as she panted, like grabbing onto a liferaft in the middle of the raging ocean.
“Don’t run from that, honey. Your body knows exactly what it needs to do to get this baby out safely, you just gotta let it. I know you’re scared.”
The new mom choked up almost immediately, her heart rising into her throat and tears prickling her eyes. She sniffled, then leaned over and bumped her head into Sara’s warm, soft shoulder, scrunching her eyes shut tight. She felt Sara wrap both her arms around her, hugging her even in her awkward, splayed position.
“I need you to know you got this, okay? And this is your journey, nobody else’s. You’ve already come this far, and you’ve done so, so well. And listen, nobody is gonna tell you shit right now. You wanna have this kid standing on your head, I’ll find a way to make it happen.”
The two of them melted into soft giggles, Rebecca smiling even as a few tears rolled down her cheeks. Taking a deep breath as the contraction ebbed, she blew it out in a big whoosh and nodded as she slowly sat back up straight, snuggling back into the beanbag and curling around her belly a bit.
Sara smiled, grabbing a tissue from her bag and gently dabbing at Rebecca’s face. “It’s just you and me right now, honeybun. Me and you and baby, and I really wanna see those chubby cheeks. So let’s see em, okay?”
“Okay.” Rebecca nodded, opening her eyes and smiling shakily at Sara. “Pushing was just…really intense, it just…kind of overwhelmed me.”
“That’s totally understandable. Try to use those noises to push. Make em nice and low and growly, use your voice and lean into that pressure.” Sara crinkled her nose and bared her teeth as she stroked Rebecca’s forehead, and the new mom couldn’t help but giggle a little bit, flopping her head back into the soft chair.
“Okay…Okay, I’ll try.”
“That’s all I ask.” Sara smiled, then grabbed her water bottle and offered it so she could grab a drink, and Rebecca eagerly took a few refreshing mouthfuls.
When the next contraction began to roll through her, she felt a bit of fluid escape from between her fingers again, and she crinkled her nose, sighing as she shifted her hips to try to get in a better position. Knees up, heels dug into the floor, hands pressing gently on her labia, she finally felt…in tune with what her body was doing.
And it was so, so different than what had gotten the baby here in the first place. And she had chosen it, not anybody else. It was what felt right to her, not to anyone else in the room.
Filling her lungs, Rebecca thrust her head forward, curling around her belly, and growled, her voice vibrating in her throat and ribs, and she felt a bulge, significant and full, underneath and between her fingers. She grunted as she released, then grabbed a breath and dove right in again, jaw dropping into a loud half-yell.
Her trembling fingers stroked her opening and pressed on her spreading labia as her baby slowly began to emerge, the top of their head appearing like a half dollar piece.
There was no slowing down now, no breaks to breathe. She circled the top of her baby’s head with the pads of her fingers as she pushed again, and then again, pressing her heels hard into the floor as she curled around her belly and yelled. Slowly, but surely, right into her hands, her baby crowned.
FInally, when it slipped to a full crown, Rebecca cried out and flopped back into the beanbag chair a bit, this time laughing. Electric joy and burning and stretching rolled through her body, and she all but squealed in happiness as she felt her baby wriggle, then settle, ready to come out.
She heard Sara giggle along with her at her side, and she quietly thanked whoever was listening that she had picked the midwife she had. No touching, no prodding, no making her relive that awful experience. Just love, and courage, and energy to do what she knew she could do.
As her baby crowned, Rebecca blew out a few hard breaths with puffed cheeks, squirming and resettling her hips in the soft chair.
“That’s it. Nice and easy. Let em just stretch you and come right on out.”
“Ahhh. Ohhh they’ve got a big head. Oh my god…” Rebecca moaned, but there was joy on her face as she stroked the squishy crown, and Sara laughed.
“We already knew they were gonna be a chunky one! Just take it nice and easy, slide em on out. Use that voice. Roar if you gotta, mama bear.”
Rebecca giggled, cracking open an eye and curling a lip tiredly at Sara, who nodded approvingly. With a shake of her head, she let her eyes fall back closed and moved one hand, grabbing a fistful of the bag and letting the other fingers press gently against the top of her baby’s head.
When she pushed again, she crinkled her nose and grunted, growling again in the back of her throat. The bulge swelled, then relaxed when she did. Swelled, pushing against her hand, then relaxed.
Finally, with a deep rumbling growl, her baby’s forehead popped free into her hand, like a cork out of a champagne bottle. With a gasp, she cradled it in her hand, then melted into a deep moan, happy shivers rolling through her whole body. Head falling back into the soft beanbag, she wiggled a bit and moaned as she felt her baby’s head slowly slipping into her hand with each vocalization.
“That’s it…nice and easy…” Murmured Sara from next to her, and she felt her move a little closer. “Let em come slow, don’t force it too hard.”
“Ahh…hahhh…” Rebecca moaned, her eyelashes fluttering. When she took her next inhale, she held it in her throat and pushed again, a gentle and muted grunt rumbling in her chest.
Her baby’s head slipped fully out then, right up to their neck, and Rebecca gasped loudly at the sudden feeling of a head between her thighs, her legs shaking and her breath catching in her throat. A feeling of joy, of love, of ecstasy, instead of anxiety and shame.
She reached down with both hands to feel, opening her eyes and craning her neck to peer over her belly. There was a big smile on Sara’s face as she leaned down to look too.
“Feel around their neck, do you feel a cord?”
“No…no, they’re clear…ohhh…” Rebecca choked out as she felt around the baby’s chubby cheeks and prodded around their neck. More fluid escaped as the baby turned, wriggling between her legs and inside her, and she gasped, then melted into a groan at the odd and incredible feeling, grabbing at the beanbag with one hand again.
Fiercely, she growled as she pushed again, following her body’s urgent signals. Again, with the rumbling voice and lurching of her belly. Again, with fluid escaping from around her fingers, splashing against her thighs.
She wasn’t worried that her baby wasn’t moving. She knew this kid was a big one, and she needed to stretch. But she also needed to push, needed to urge her baby forward, needed to finally hold them after so many long months, and pushing felt GOOD.
Hauling in a huge breath, she yelled as she pushed again, jaw dropped to her chest and eyes open, staring over her belly and between her shaking thighs. A shoulder. There was a shoulder, slowly emerging, she could feel it, stretching and burning all over again. Shoving her hips upward toward the ceiling, she pushed, and felt it come free, ready for the other to follow.
Gasping, Rebecca grabbed a few deep breaths, then pushed again, letting out a loud yell that made her belly pulse. The other shoulder popped free then, into her hand, and she quickly reached both hands to cradle her baby’s upper body as she tried to catch her breath.
“Beautiful, beautiful! Nice work, Rebecca, you got it!” Sara cheered, and Rebecca laughed in breathless excitement as her baby eased forward into her hands even more.
Then, with a big gush of fluid and a yell from Rebecca that would rival any monster in any game she played, her baby, big and chunky, finally slipped out into her waiting hands. As Sara cheered, the new mom immediately lifted the baby onto her chest and sobbed in happiness, wrapping her arms around the wailing baby.
Her greatest achievement. Not just her baby, but taking her power back.
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYONE!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Here are my OCs Luna (Blake and Yang's kid) and Jake (based on Jack and the Beanstalk) to celebrate the day.
You know what that last episode affirmed to me? That Blake and Yang can have kids together in the future! Tell me that look on Blake’s face wasn’t just like: *sigh* “I want to have your babies…”
Picture this, 10 years later after the battle is won, Yang holding their first child together. She still can’t quite believe it.
