Is Edgar x Colette really "problematic"?

Disclaimer: do not harass anyone involved in this. 

I’m not trying to prove the ship is “canon”.

I’m simply sharing what I’ve found with the intent of stopping the spread of misinformation I’ve seen on this topic, not starting fights. I am however open to discussion. 

For each “claim” I will be providing concrete evidence.

Paul/Pawchaw (the designer’s) words

The tweet that caused this whole situation in the first place, the one that supposedly “confirmed” their ages

Alongside this one…

This spread like wildfire, having even a few content creators promoting it.

But was this an actual confirmation? Looking into other things said by Paul, it doesn’t seem to be the case.

Info about the characters *can* be changed by the current dev team.

The ages are for V/O purposes *only*.

But even considering all of this, we could probably still use the ages given by Paul as the closest thing to canon we have, right? 

Well, I disagree. 

Official accounts / developers sharing and responding to fanart

Dani responding to Colgar art. Unfortunately the artwork has been deleted, but I have a screenshot. (A little low quality but several can be found online).

I also saw a couple people argue that this was not ship art or has not been interpreted as such, but the cover referenced features two lovers in a position that suggests they’re about to kiss, so I don’t get how it could be seen as anything else…

There’s a lot more instances of them being together in non-international accounts exclusive content, but since those are not inherently romantic they will not be featured. 

If after all of this you still perceive them as having a big age gap, that’s completely fine. If you see them as siblings or whatnot, that’s fine as well.

You can have your headcanons about it, just be mindful that in canon they’re not related, are likely around the same age and that 19-20 and 16 are NOT their canonical ages as they don’t have any, save for Edgar being a “teen” (which means, technically speaking, anywhere between 13 -19).

TLDR: Paul does not have the power to canonize ages nor was it his intention, Edgar IS a teenager but with no specific age ever confirmed, multiple developers have been posting and positively responding to the ship, so there’s nothing wrong with liking it. Still, you can have your headcanons, just don’t force them onto others!
