tomoe could feel a migraine swelling behind their eyes, reverberating to the back of their neck and causing their shoulders to hunch. coffee would be nice, but what tomoe really needed was a break. they shut their laptop and stood, shoving their phone and wallet into their pocket. “want some company? i’m going insane here -- a walk would be really nice.”

“thank you,” jinhwa said with a little giggle. “i actually didn’t get to celebrate much– my birthday was right around when the finale was, so it was super stressful. it would be really nice to celebrate it properly.”

tomoe started shaking their head immediately, steering jinhwa toward the door so the two of them could get their drink on. “now, that’s a damn shame. if there are two things that deserve to be celebrated, it’s birthdays and debuts.” they stopped for a moment. “is there anyone else you wanna bring along? since we’re celebrating you and everything.”

“oh!” misaki said with a little jump, eyes widening when she heard her mother tongue.  she had no idea this person knew japanese, so she switched over and began to speak a lot more openly. “it’s not just you– my korean is really bad, and i say things i shouldn’t all the time. izumi really wants us to debut together, before the chinese trainees do. so she does a lot of the talking in korean so i don’t mess it up for us,” she explained

that made a lot of sense. tomoe had been in korea for a fair bit now, but they’d never had to go through the rough transition period without knowing the language. as a politician’s kid, they’d grown up learning some languages that were politically advantageous -- korean, english, and very basic mandarin. “but you’ll never get better at korean if you don’t practice,” they responded, shrugging a shoulder. “and you’ll just have to speak it even more when you debut.”

ginny blushed a little. she felt kind of embarrassed for bringing the mood down now. of course she was grateful and proud of herself. she shouldn’t act otherwise, right? jinhwa nodded. “yeah, i’m nineteen. i turned nineteen a month ago,” she answered with a nod. she hadn’t really ever gone out drinking, but that was a whole different topic to tackle

tomoe winced. they were a little embarrassed they hadn’t known about ginny’s recent birthday, especially considering the fact that they were labelmates and ginny was freshly debuted. “happy belated birthday,” they offered, leading ginny toward the door. “guess that means i should probably buy you two drinks, right? one for debuting, one to celebrate turning 19.” they grinned.

“listen, it’s nothing personal,” misaki said quickly. “izumi just told me i shouldn’t talk to you without her around. i know you’re just trying to be polite, but you should probably go…”

it had been a while since tomoe had been back to japan, but they still knew who izumi was. after a moment’s consideration, they recognized misaki as well. when they spoke, it was in japanese instead of korean. “why doesn’t she want you to talk to me?” they wondered if it had anything to do with who they were, or if it was just a blanket statement -- perhaps misaki wasn’t meant to speak with anyone if izumi wasn’t there.

“i feel a bit of survivors guilt,” jinhwa admitted, pressing her hands to her cheeks and taking a deep breath. “i know that i shouldn’t worry about it, but i do really feel bad that i got the last unity spot over four other girls who wanted it just as much as i did….”

tomoe started shaking their head before jinhwa had even finished talking. they understood where the younger girl was coming from, but that didn’t mean it was true. “you have absolutely nothing to feel bad about,” they started, hands on jinhwa’s shoulders so that she maintained eye contact with them. “you won that spot fair and square. you earned it.” they grinned. “are you old enough to drink? i’ll buy you one to celebrate, yeah?”

hello again!! it’s me, megan (25, she/her, est)~ and this is yamaha tomoe. to get a better understanding of them and their history/personality, i highly recommended reading THEIR BIO !! also, please be sure to always refer to tomoe using they/them pronouns. they identify as non-binary and queer.

tomoe is a japanese producer who has a fairly large following under the stage name TOMMY on soundcloud and youtube. they post a lot of retrowave and synthwave stuff there, as well as some collaborations with smaller japanese artists. before that, though, they were a politician’s kid and a model in japan. they’ve recently relocated to korea with their sibling (iori), taking a job at higher records. they haven’t produced anything on their own and have mostly worked on b-sides, but don’t be surprised if you see their name on a title track sometime in the near future….

sanghee sighed, surveying the terrain. he was a trainee, not an intern, but did that matter? not especially. if someone needed something and he was the only one around, he did what they needed. which was why he was currently out in the cold instead of practicing their cover to obsession. he walked up to tommy meekly, poking their arm. “here– this is from your sibling. i think they saw you through the window and didn’t want to come out in the cold theirself, but iori told me to bring you these leftovers. something about how if you’re going to hang out in the cold, you should eat something.”

tomoe jumped a bit at the sudden feeling of a finger pressing into their arm. they’d been so absorbed in final edits that they hadn’t even noticed the person approach. they managed to take off their headphones just in time to catch the message. immediately, they chuckled, shaking their head. “they made you do their dirty work, huh? typical tsundere -- never wants to get caught being too nice.” they took the food from the young man gratefully, opening it and digging in before it had the chance to get cold. “you wanna share? the least i can do since iori made you come all the way out here.” tomoe patted the spot next to them on the bench. “i’m tomoe. you are?”
