“oh, you have new hair! did you just get that done?” misaki asked her best friend, a tiny smile on her face. “we match now...”

“this is fucking insane,” rhiann said, peeking out at the crowd gathered to see them from the wings of the stage. japanese promotions were typically good for vega, but this was a whole new level. “not too bad for a couple of idol project runners up, and two who couldn’t even get on the show in the first place, i guess.” @rvizumi​ @kaorvi​ @rvyooi​ @rvmisaki​

“i don’t even think i count as a runner up,” misaki retorted with a sheepish smile, trying not to panic at the sheer size of the crowd. “compass had some big crowds like this, but i never had to sing in front of them... this is too much....”

“you know what i want to do? a pirate concept,” chaemi said in a sing-song voice, humming to herself as she hung upsidedown on the common-area couch. “not lame pirates, either. a real pirate concept. like legacy sunbaenims. i just think that’s what kpop is missing these days.” @rvjoohye​ @rvmengxia​ @kaorvi​ @rvmisaki​ @rvdylanlee​ @rvisis​ @jinheerv​ @rvchaeli​

“that could be fun. i think i would look cool as a pirate,” misaki agreed with a tiny smile. “i don’t know if i have the presence to really take it all the way, though...”

“hey, it’ll be fine! don’t even worry,” he assured her, her nerves and fear making his dissipate. having someone to help make comfortable made his own fears completely disappear. “i know some japanese from himari and fuka, i can help you out. i’ll make sure you don’t get overwhelmed or lost in the show either, okay?”

“i don’t know. usually ryan and izumi are here. or even kaori-- they’re way better on camera,” misaki insisted. she and yue were the shyest vega members-- going on this show alone was overwhelming. “oh, i didn’t know you knew japanese,” she replied, wide-eyed. “i.... okay. i trust you.”

“we’ve done a lot together, haven’t we,” yue mused softly, taking misaki’s hand and squeezing it lightly as the stylists fit them for the next vega concert. “who would have known, back when we were in compass, we’d end up here?” @rvmisaki​

“oh, not me. i thought that once i had to graduate from compass, everything was over,” misaki admitted, squeezing yue’s hand back. “i’m really proud of us too. you look great. vega suits you.”

“you wouldn’t happen to be familiar enough with this building to be able to give me directions, would you?” antonio asked apologetically, slouching down to speak to the young woman in the lobby. “shit, i’ve seen you on tv, haven’t i? are you famous?” @rvmisaki​

“well, i work here, so i know enough-- it depends on where you want to go,” misaki answered, offering the tall man a small smile. “oh? famous? i wouldn’t say so.... i am an idol, though. and i was on a competition show this year....”

“i’m going to be honest, i have no idea what i’m doing,” lance said with a laugh, pushing his hair back. millenium had him and junghoon doing the variety circuit for a while, and despite no one knowing who they were, they kind of gained a following– to the point that when one of the shows needed a 1-week fill in MC, they’d actually given him a call. “i feel like i’m gonna fuck all this up. i just need to apologize in advance.”

“oh... you don’t have to be sorry. i should be sorry,” misaki answered soberly. “i’m bad at these shows. my korean isn’t very good, and i get shy and nervous. i’m probably going to be so bad to be on screen with....”

“i think my favorite part of lalalilala is how much of a supervillain i got to look like,” mo said, chin resting on their hand. “now or never was fun, but if i got to look like an anime villain every comeback, i think i’d be living the dream. i wish i could just bring that era back.”

“it’s too bad that you don’t get to choose the concept. i thought that concept really suited all of  you,” misaki commented.

rvizumi​:

“what are you on about, misaki,” iz retorted, brow furrowed. “we’ve been friends since we were children. i haven’t changed. what has gotten into you?” she shook her head. “those people hate me, and have gotten into your head.”

“they don’t hate you, they just don’t like you. and it’s because you’re not nice to them. and you’ve made me be not nice to them either,” misaki insisted, trying to stay firm. “we’ve been friends for a long time, but that doesn’t mean i can’t be friends with other people. and that doesn’t mean i have to go along with everything you say.”

“i think they do too. i try hard, but i don’t have the range haena did. singing my own songs, i feel so much less inadequate.”

“i wouldn’t beat yourself up for that, though-- no one has the same range haena did,” misaki said with a little laugh. “you guys are huge, though. fans don’t seem to mind that you’re different.”

“iz, we need to talk,” misaki said nervously, playing with the hem of her sweater. “i.... i don’t like how you’ve been treating me lately. or our groupmates. they’re my friends, and i think you need to be kinder.” @rvizumi​

“yeah, i feel you. it’s why i feel so weird whenever we perform old reign songs. like…..i feel like a body double or something. it’s so much easier when im performing my songs,” she agreed.

“your songs suit you a lot better anyway,” misaki answered shyly with a tiny smile. “it’s better when you’re not pretending to be someone you’re not.”

“somi made her choice, and so did new age. believe me, if anyone understands how you feel, it’s me. but you just have to dive in and embrace it.”

“it does feel special to get to perform. and now that we’ve had a comeback, it feels like i’m more in the group,” misaki admitted. “i’m not doing somi’s part. i’m doing mine, you know?”

rvohkyung​:

“I have to admit, I’m curious how close your guess would be to how it really was,” Ohkyung replied with a laugh. “I was working with a thrift shop budget, if that’s any indicator.”

“oh, thats not what i had in my head,” she giggled. “i was thinking about.... when the concept of rap first came to asia, and you had boys who were rappers trying to dress how they thought that looked, to be honest...”

“the states have tons of laws for this shit. asia should catch up. exploiting kids like this is a recipe for disaster.”

“i guess maybe i see it differently because i grew up in it...” misaki admitted with a little shrug. “i just don’t think it’s a big deal, if the kids are being taken care of. we expect them to go to school 9 hours a day. why is this so much worse?”

“I came across a couple of photos of myself when I was cleaning earlier from when I first arrived in Seoul. I actually don’t think I’ve seen someone try so hard to look like a badass as I did then as a teenager–it’s no wonder I got turned down all those times at auditions,” Ohkyung said with a dry chuckle.

“you can’t just say that and then not show pictures. now i’m imaging what you must mean, and it looks terrible,” misaki giggled
