Apparently there's an ao3 story that says "the movies never showed" Steve being a tactician, or finishing basic training, or being promoted, or being willing to learn new things. But Tony in the story is a medieval prince who is wonderful ruler and can do no wrong. As if THAT was shown in the movies...

There was a whole montage in the First Avenger and his fighting style has adapted throughout the movies.

In the Avengers: “Alright, listen up. Until we can close that portal, our priority’s containment. Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything gets more than three blocks out, you turn it back or you turn it to ash…Thor, you gotta try and bottleneck that portal. Slow ‘em down. You got the lightning. Light the bastards up…You and me, we stay here on the ground, keep the fighting here. And Hulk? Smash!”

Then there was TWS: “Alright, I’m gonna sweep the deck and find Batroc. Nat, you’ll kill the engines and wait for instructions. Rumlow, you sweep aft, find the hostages, get them to the life-pods, get ‘em out. Let’s move.”

Not to mention AoU (ex:fighting Ultron), CW (ex:airport battle, infiltrated the Raft), Infinity War (ex:train station)…Endgame. There are a ton of examples and quotes that show Steve Rogers is a tactician and can fight. It just takes a little common sense to acknowledge every single detail doesn’t need to be covered. His rank/promotion is also obvious from his service uniform. So “Captain” in the MCU wasn’t a novelty title.

Reading the art book for Endgame and came across this. Couldn’t get everything in one shot, the pages are too damn wide.
