there's nothing to explain, "vermillion" absolutely is a green word
verde in spanish, italian, portuguese and romanian means green. vert in french means green. verdant means green. viridescent means green. it tracks that vermillion would mean green, and that it doesnāt just proves that english is a ridiculous language with absurd rules.
'Viridian' is also green & viridian and vermilion sound very similar. So you can understand the kind of stress I'm under.
I find this opposite to be true of chartreuse. It should be red. It is green. I have no basis for this.
how I see it in my head
I am one hundred percent in agreement with this. Itās also jangling the funnies with the idea of the bemused face of anyone with red/green colour blindness.
the gale/prim stunt was so cheap too bc narratively killing prim didnāt do ANYTHING and it was only written so suzanneĀ collins could easily solve the dumbass love triangle She CREATED. soĀ katnissĀ loses her sister, her mom leaves, And her best friend from childhood leaves. and what she has at the end is fucking uhhhh Peeta Parker and some kids she never even wanted ???? like ??Ā gale was a wholeĀ antifaĀ legend for 2.9 books and she ruined All that at the VERY end forĀ some romance?! completely glossing over the fact thatĀ katniss did not romantically want to be with either of them!!!!Ā
the whole reason prim died is because it IS senseless. like that is literally the point.Ā
suzanne collins and ka applegate are cut from a similar cloth and that cloth is refusing to shy away from depicting how brutal, how senseless, how cruelĀ war is. prim died for no reason and that is the point. it had absolutely nothing to do with resolving a love triangle.
also YāALL COME ON the presence of romance in a book does not make the book A Romance; theĀ ālove triangleā was literally never ever the point - which is why itās what the capitol focuses on.Ā
also katnissās happy ever after: she fuckin grew up, yāall, come on. listen, I get the knee jerk hate for a baby boomer-style happily ever afters (I will sue jk rowling in court for the epilogue) but the fact that katniss, after everything she went through, felt comfortable enough to settle down with peeta and actually have kids - kids she knewĀ were not going to be thrown into a gladiatorial arena for the entertainment of the super wealthy - is proof that what she did mattered. it cost katniss goddamn near everything she had - her family, her friends, her hearing, her home - but it was still the right thing to do.
the hunger games is about the cost of revolution: itās so, so high, but in the end, itās necessary.
Furthering this, Katniss said she didnāt want kids because she didnāt want to bring them into the world she grew up in. The fact that Katniss grows up to have kids is supposed to show the reader that the world has indeed changed for the better. Not wanting kids was conditional, and the conditions changed.
Also, justā thatās the point, that gale does it. Thatās the other point Suzanne Collins likes to make, and if you look at her earlier Gregor the Overlander she makes it even more brutally clear. war lets people do terrible things. war encourages people to do terrible things. some people stop. some people donāt, because they donāt know how, or because they canāt until the war is over, or because theyāre just that good at it.
Collins said in an interview that Gale and Peeta were āless as two points in a love triangle, more as two perspectives in the just-war debateā (as in, whether a war is justified) āKatniss isnāt just deciding on a partner; sheās figuring out her own worldview.ā And in Katnissās case, she lost everything to war. She chose to be done with it.

OK - a very tangential takeoff: Engineering prof assigns students this question: Explain how to determine the height of a very tall building using a barometer.
Obviously meant to use change in barometric pressure with altitude. But one student submitted the following:
There are several ways of doing this
1. On a sunny day, stand the barometer up in the sun, measure the length of its shadow relative to its height, then measure the length of the buildingās shadow and calculate its height from that.
2. Go into the stairwell and climb the stairs to the top, marking off the length of the barometer on the wall, giving you the height of the building inĀ ābarometer unitsā.
3. Go onto the roof of the building and drop the barometer off the top and time how long it takes to hit the ground, then calculate the height using the well known formula of 32 ft./sec./sec.
4. Go into the office of the building superintendent and sayĀ āIf you tell me how tall this building is, I will give you this nice barometerā.

I love when he says āI want the jersey of someone whoās literally the worstā and Tarasenko is like āThis is my momentā
I am very drunk and listening to totoās Africa
Iām thinking about watching Charlie and the chocolate factory, but the one from the 1970s where gene wilder is giving off heavy āfuck them kidsā energy and the lighting makes it look like the Great Depression
The newer Johnny Depp one sucked because he cared about their lives way too much and also had that haircut.
I donāt need a background story about a dentist dad to relate to willy wonka, I just need him to have crazy eyes okay, I am but a simple girl with simple needs
The trickster god energy Gene Wilder gives off vs the Kooky Entrepeneur energy Johnny Depp gives off.
Exactly!!!!!
Nothing in the Johnny Depp one can match the dangerous authoritarian energy of what Gene Wilder is doing with his cane in this scene alone
the manic control of how he makes them walk down the stairs.
āif you want to view paradise, simply look around and view itā he says after nearly savagely kneecapping an 11 year old girl for trying to view it
this movie is incredible
Iāve never seen this movie so I just experienced this for the first time and it terrifies me. The absolute boredom in his eyes combined with the mischief of his body language and the glittery, airy, detached way he sings the most pleasant, poetic words.
Nope.
this is a man trying to get rid of his horrifically unsafe factory the year before OSHA began
This is quite frankly the funniest comment on this post
