epic mickey fandom why aren’t we talking about the concept art for this game i mean
look at this
look
not only is it so artistically beautiful but it’s extremely unsettling!!! i didn’t even show the concept art for scrapped beetleworx design (i’ll maybe make a separate post sometime) but dear god. these paint such a fantastic picture of the raw FEELING of wasteland, like the desolate, slightly off-putting land of the forgotten. the games already are so artistically articulate and the creepy factor is really prominent, but just think what we could have gotten if it was catered towards even older audiences.
The concept art featuring the Blot happen to be some of my favourites (I know 2 are from Rebrushed but man I just love the Blot as a character and a concept)
the blot concept art is GORGEOUS and so so haunting. one of my fav details in the game is mickey’s splotches, like the goopy blot-ness coming off of him during gameplay it’s such a unique touch to show his connection to the blot and how it’s literally part of him. also the blot in general haunts the narrative and you can visibly see the consequences of its destructive nature in the landscapes alone
something i found the second game of epic mickey was really lacking was the complex relationship between mickey and oswald. like, i know they (sorta) made up at the end of the first game, but almost none of that was acknowledged like....ever in the second game. there was so much complexity and layers of emotion that went into both of them and it was so beautiful to see how these characters developed and like??? i really wish we could see more of that in the second game. they’re brothers with 80+ years of angst built like a brick wall between them. where‘s the sibling rivalry? subtle snarky comments? i mean i get the premise is them teaming up but they can’t just ignore the resentment and range of emotions that were dealt with in the first game. idk just thoughts!!
Honestly a concept i've been really intrested is that Epic mickey 1 focused alot on oswald being upset over being replaced...but then in epic mickey 2 i would wish we could focus on how mickey feels about being a replacement? Is he also upset by it? Doesnt it make him feel a bit jaleous of oswald on the reverse? Doesnt he feel guilty about it?
How about oswald still slowly letting go of his grudge and accualy becoming intrested in mickey as his brother meanwhile mickey starts to feel more upset and starts kinda going the same route oswald did years ago and we have kind of reversal? Honestly that would kinda work for epic mickey 3 since mickey does stay in wasteland at the end and he could start to resent it depending on how long it took? That is some serious speculations teritory though T♡T
And yes The lack of snarky comments and that usual sibling dynamic when there teamed up does upset me like it would have been do peak TOT but on the other end maybe it could not be there since oz and mick arent really close yet and they could try getting to accualy know eachother better during the second game and that dynamic could slowly start showing up over time
Aghhhhhh i really wish they could get more spotlight on them as brothers, but now after all the times the only thing we can really do it make it ourselves lol
YOU BRING UP SUCH A GOOD POINT. there are glimmers of mickey being shocked at his likeness being replaced by oswald’s in wasteland (such as the cutscene where he first sees the iconic statue of os and walt at the end of mean street) but it would be so so interesting if they widened that scope. like, mickey’s whole guilt with being oswald’s replacement and not being the original, how his fame is built off of oswald’s failure as a character in a way. i could see the brothers beginning to heal as they both come to terms with being two sides of the same coin in this way, the replaced and the replacement.
having a sort of reversal of the tropes and sentiment we see in the first game would be such a unique touch, the brothers kind of paralleling each other. i don’t know if mickey would willingly shun his brother away to the same extreme that oswald did with mic, given mickey as a character is vastly different and less hardened and cold compared to os, but i could definitely see mickey’s anxiety and people pleasing tendencies becoming too much upon returning to wasteland and having to grapple with all these emotions that went unresolved from the first game.
but we were totally robbed at pure sibling rivalry antics imo. it would be such a nice touch to have them start in that banter-y, we’re-brothers-but-still-unsure-of-how-to-unpack-All-That zone at the beginning of the game that warms up to genuine connection towards the end. this would also make os and mickey’s team up against the mad doc at the very end of the game a lot more heartwarming.
now i’m rambling but i have so much love in my heart
MORE OSWALD 2019 CONCEPT ART! HES SO CUUUUTEEEEE
let me say this again we were so cruelly and horribly robbed.
For ppl who havent seen the 2019 Oswald show concepts got leaked and i think its important we all reblog and save these images before disney can attempt to burry them we NEED this archived for the artists sake
Og post discovering this (on twitter) and yt vid i assume by the same person GO THANK THEM RIGHT THE FUCK NOW
Here are all the concepts mainly on envariment
Concepts on oswald himself i belive not finalized?
His little gas station to the crowd that still checks things w disney you might know this is the same gas station oz has the the disney theme parks, honestly very fitting though I do find some irony here i'll share in tags cuz its rubberverse related-
Absolutlry beautiful concepts of the outside enviroment you can accualy sense so much passion put into these the colors are so beautiful omg
Notes on the characters! I do find even more irony here i'll again post in reblogs cuz its off topic We can see some oryginal villians for oz That i belive we also saw in the pilot from 2014 i can see the take on them has changed a bit, also the hound driver is so peak oh my god i think i love him
Concepts of some hotel i wonder what was the idea with that Id assume maybe this could have been a place oz stays in while hes in the city cuz we see he's from the outside rather than a part of it either way on speculation i think the concept of it is my personal fav i mean just look at it
Idk whats this related to but oswalds on a sky scrapper at night and i fw with it good for him
And while it is a bigger speculation and the image isnt the most clear-
We see another rabbit in the city in a trolley, i think we can see eyelashes and she def has some hat on (smaller hats are usual for women at disney from what i saw) We see SHE notices oswald and is looking at him with i think a o.o expression so...
Is that suppoust to be fanny??
Since this is doing numbers id just like to add that oswald obviously being an out the city boy freshly walking into the city and fanny possibly being from the city noticing him first and that he's new and maybe helpin him get around better as well and telling him who are the ppl you wanna stay away from would be cute and the fact (as much as I dont rlly like the idea of blond fanny) their designs are even more diffrent now are all great reasons for them to kiss and hold hands and maybe set a building on fire or somethin
WE WERE ROBBED !!
we have to talk about oswald's bunny children. what are they. why.
finally replaying epic mickey after years since my first hyperfix. and goddamn. besides just how thrilling it is to explore the world building and its twisted mirroring of disneyland, there's so many dark and layered undertones to the relationship between oswald and mickey that i just can't help but sink my teeth into. but what they don't tell you about is the absolute terror of 7 million bunny children beelining for you at any given moment. they are everywhere you are never safe.

i really think the mickey mouse/the newer wonderful world of mickey mouse shorts are one of the best things disney could have done for mickey. as years went on he became so much like a figurehead for disney and less and less like an actual character. and like, for being THE disney character it’s crazy to think how actually little disney does with him. there is so much potential that was gone to waste, and these shorts revived a lot of the toon-liness of him. he’s ALLOWED to do these zany things now, and make mistakes, and just general toon shenanigans that just ugh i’m so glad we get to see again. like even before, mickey was the star of episodic specials like disney's christmas short collections or my all time fav the three musketeers for example. and we dont get ANY of that now, he's kept locked up in a cage up at disney headquarters.
mickey is wonderful and he deserves better someone free him.
i think oswald is very cool thank you tumblr
