I love that in the ten years I've been on tumblr, tumblr users' attitude towards tumblr has come full circle, now we're back where we started at "tumblr is our beloved home, no other social media can compare, no other website has what we have, do not trust other websites, do not tell the outsiders about us", only this time we're like. Really exhausted and with a sense of irony about it.

I was talking about being afraid of people leaving me behind because I'm too sick, and my boyfriend just looked at me and said: "It's my choice to be your boyfriend. It's your friends choice to be your friends. You don't have to understand it, but you have to respect our choice. Don't try to make the decision of whether you're worthy of people on their behalf because that's not your decision to make." I think that's an important thing to remember. That whether we're worthy of someone's time and effort is something others can decide for themselves regardless of whether or not we agree with them. There's a lot of peace in realizing that literally all you have to do is accept the love other people choose to throw your way. That you aren't the one who gets to determine that you aren't worthy of their love. That other people can choose to love you regardless of how you feel about yourself - and that you can learn to respect their choice even though you're feeling unworthy.

As a Scottish person living in England I feel this on a personal level, when people say shit like “well it’s not the genuine asylum seekers I’m bothered by, it’s the people who just move here to get a better job and take advantage of our welfare system” and I’m like “Mate, I literally moved 500 miles south to a different country just to get a better job and better weather, if you’re going to hate on anyone for that hate on me.” 

Then they try to back-track and say things like “Well you already speak perfect English so it’s fine” and I’m like “My grandma didn’t speak very good English when my grandparents settled in the UK from Finland, what are you trying to say?” 

And they’re like “Well I’m sure you’re grandparents had useful jobs and weren’t just sponging off the system.” like… nah, my grandma mended clothes and my grandad sold garden sheds, they weren’t exactly brain surgeons 

“But they…” just admit it, it’s not white immigrants that bother you, I doubt Americans go on marches protesting the Canadian undergrad students who overstay their visas or all the germans and scandinavians who just rocked up in the Midwest one day and decided to call it their own.

This was how I finally started to understand white privilege.

I remember reading about a white European of some flavour who had overstayed their visa and wanted to go home but couldn’t afford the plane ticket. They tried to turn themselves in to ICE to get deported, and were straight up told “we’re not looking for people like you”

i like to think that luísa, especially and specifically, is mirabel’s hero. not because she’s gifted or so physically strong, but because of what they talked about when luísa tells of the pressure she feels for being the strong and protector of the house.

i mean, the whole song luísa is honest and open and most importantly is always protecting mirabel at all times, and she repeatedly tells mirabel how luísa will take care of everything, that she’ll help, that she’ll protect her, that anything mirabel can’t shoulder, luisa will.

her big sister is her hero. not because of what she can miraculously do. but because of what she’s willing to do to make everyone safe

I just love how Delores just casually drops the fact that Bruno is living in the walls when she was telling Mirabel that the only people worried about the magic failing is her, Louisa, and the rats in the wall - and Mirabel just rolls with that answer.

Make ya wonder how often Delores drops that type of line when people ask her questions that have a lot of possible answers?

Someone (Probably) “Hey Delores how many people know so and so was pregnant with surprise twins before the official announcement?”

Delores (Probably) “ oh well the midwife, the rats in the wall, and the priest”

he was trying so hard and doing everything he felt he could to keep his family together but he was so terrified of actually facing them again that he could only do so much and it would never be enough because nobody was COMMUNICATING and I just. AUGH.
