It takes Isabella a moment to process Alice’s voice. Taking in Alice’s scars received from various moments in life. Living in this changed and very chaotic world. Still Isabella exhales, knowing both sides of the coin. She forgets about her own. Yet there’s the ones when Alice’s fingers run across them in moments together. Instant comfort, bar none.
Forgets in those moments the world isn’t kind, it left all sorts of scars on the both of them. Scars that aren’t present to the visible eye. & still Isabella’s heart beats a little faster as they share a glance. The blonde can’t lie, she’d do anything she could to make the ache of the scars lessen for Alice. There’s a soft exhale as Isabella nods as her fingers gently brush Alice’s shoulder. Soft reminder she’s there for Alice.
“Alice” there’s a pause as Isabella lost in thought for a moment . She cares very deeply for Alice“I selfishly want to make sure…” voice softening as Isabella meets Alice’s gaze once more. She wants to share something so deeply personal with the other woman and asking Alice at the same time if she’d gently trace the scars upon Isabella’s body.
The blonde knows how personal scars are, and talking about them with someone who understands wholly. What they mean and the moments and memory attached with it. “You know I can’t help it Ali.” Isabella hums softly as she’s making sure none of the scars look worse. Or any surprise new ones.
It’s the soft whisper as Isabella lays her head on Alice’s shoulder “Promise?” Fingers intertwining with Alice’s as she softly squeezes.
That was definitely a little lie. Sort of. She remembers some scars too well-- better than she'd like to. When they make that brief eye contact, she figured that a part of Isabella probably knew that... while also knowing well to not press on about it. Not like they needed to, living in the world they were cruelly left behind in and forced to survive in the harshest environments where humanity was standing on a very thin line.
She was just so tired of looking at them in the mirror. Which is why she rarely looks in them anymore in the mornings, preferring to shatter them and drown herself in a bottle of Jack Daniels.
Though she hasn't been drinking much anymore. Not since little Becky came into their lives. Alice was still so afraid, so afraid she would lose the girl like how she'd lost Angela back in Boston. She doesn't know what she would do if she were to gain another scar that meant she lost someone else important. Nearly losing Isabella a few times had set her close enough to the edge where she was more than ready to take the plunge into the sharp, jagged rocks at the bottom.
Life certainly is cruel, too. The thought makes her almost scoff, but her lips only curl faintly in a reaction and she cast her gaze to the side.
"All we can do is be grateful we have each other, still." Even her voice sounded completely exhausted. She tilted her head to rest against Isabella's and closed her eyes, breathing in slow and deep-- a pre-emptive strike against the creeping anxiety.
"...Becky still asleep?" She asks quietly, making a mental note that the girl had training to do today. It was what Becky wanted, and Alice agreed to it.
Quietness between them isn’t anything uncomfortable , more familiar than they’d say aloud. Isabella still paused for a moment in thought and understanding. Pain, especially personal pain was hard to be vulnerable about. She always would let the little lies pass, knowing they’d both be honest in the important moments.
Moments where they’d barely made it. Where nightmares plagued them both. Alice’s touch always silenced those doubts and fears. Isabella had many a night where she just watched the stars, hoping for an answer. Hoping her mom might be alive out there somewhere. Dreaming her and Alice would get that happily ever after with Becky.
“ Always.” Is softly whispered as Isabella lets her eyes close while Alice is resting her head against her. It’s always the touch that takes away the what ifs of everything else. Alice’s touch always has done that for Isabella. There’s also that soft reminder they both need to get more rest. Rest that isn’t plagued by the endless hell that is earth right now. However this little moment right now with Alice is helping, chasing away those worries. She takes in Alice’s breathing letting her own match the rhythm. Soothing them both without anything said. Still Isabella’s hand gives Alice’s another squeeze before answering her question.
“Hmm. She is. Wanted to get a little more sleep before absolutely having to get up.” There’s a soft smile present as Isabella recalls Becky all curled up on their bed right in the middle. With all the best blankets and said dog right by her feet. Making sure no one that wasn’t Alice or Isabella would get near Becky. “Almost the equivalent of mom five more minutes.” It doesn’t need to be said that Isabella has a very soft spot for Becky or when she says you can always have an extra moment with Alice. Without disrupting their comfortable position Isabella softly kisses Alice’s shoulder letting each kiss linger a moment longer.
“You’re make me so insanely happy, safe & loved Ali.” Isabella softly states to Alice, while prolonging their moment together. She wants to remember every little touch with Alice, hearing how she makes her breath hitch in all the right moment, and knowing how much she means to Alice as well. “Later you and me will go down to the river. Make sure we’re both completely relaxed.” Isabella’s voice is soft, it’s carrying every emotion with it.
“Selfishly love, I also would like five more minutes with you.” Grin present as Isabella wraps her arms around Alice and gives her a squeeze, knowing that Alice did have training to do with Becky while Isabella had some patrolling to do. The blonde does let out a soft exhale when meeting Alice’s gaze once more. “Promise you’ll both be safe?” Question asked more to ease Isabella anxiety of not being with them whilst training and knowing how quick patrol can change without a moments notice.
“I wanna watch the stars with you Ali, and fall asleep in your arms.” Words whispered as Isabella captures Alice’s lips in a passionate kiss. Stating all the emotions the blonde can’t say in the moment. She doesn’t wanna think about a world without Alice or Becky. Healing together. All three of them and their dog.
