“Dragon Age did work with Alexis Kennedy on a previous incarnation of the game. We no longer have a working relationship with him”
We've got to talk about Alexis Kennedy and the impact he may have on Dragon Age 4... ///////////////////////////////////////LINKZ:///////////////////////////...
this is a genuinely hard post to make. Let’s just get into it.
British video game writer and designer, best known as the founder of Failbetter Games and previous Freelance writer for Dragon Age 4 - Alexis Kennedy has been accused of being a predator in the industry, preying on young women.
Kennedy has denied some of the accusations against him on Twitter. In a thread, game designer and writer Meg Jayanth accused Kennedy, who is also one of the co-founders of Failbetter Games.
Game writer Olivia Wood backed up those accusations. Wood explained that Kennedy used his position to prey on her and other young employees for sex.
And then when those relationships would end, Wood alleges that Kennedy would use his position to belittle her and other women.
In his denial, Kennedy said that he had only consensual relationships, and he is calling the cops about what he calls a “campaign of harassment.” Kennedy did not deny that he used his power to procure consent.
In response to this, Failbetter posted a statement on Twitter.
“We believe and stand with everyone who has come forward to speak out about Alexis Kennedy tonight.”
Since the legal action, without calling anyone out, we’ve seen plenty of resignations from Weather Factory - Alexis Kennedy’s latest games development studio.
We’ve seen plenty of BioWare’s staff coming out to support the victims like writers, Patrick and Karen Weekes and the narrative director of Dragon Age 4, John Epler.
Karen Weekes, in particular, tweeted about once being a supporter of Kennedy’s work, however, no more shall she support him or his ideas. This has lead to a fair bit of speculation regarding the lore and writing he’s created for the next Dragon Age as a freelance writer.
Ultimately, the fact that BioWare employees are upset with Alexis, and Karen’s tweet of no longer supporting his work clearly cut’s the cord on any type of friendship or association BioWare had with Kennedy.
Regarding the future of Dragon Age 4 though, what does this mean for the work that Kennedy has created? Speculation over Karen’s tweet leads us to think that they’d cut the content right? However, if we change the flex, we can try and understand what will happen with the work Alexis has produced.
It’s worth noting that Alexis Kennedy has seemingly already finished the gothic, death centric plot-points, cults and narratives he was working on, according to his previous job positions on his Twitter bio. We have to remember, he’s been working as a guest writer since 2017 after-all, so at the time of these allegations, it seems he was done with BioWare anyway.
With him now being accused, would they really cut all of that work, writing and lore-building? Even though he’s since moved on from BioWare?
Well, a quick answer to that is no, of course, they wouldn’t cut the content because technically it was never Alexis Kennedy’s work, to begin with. As a Digital Marketer myself, I understand the agreements you need to sign when handing over your skills for a specific position, lawfully, the work you will produce doesn’t belong to you, it’s under the company you work for.
For Alexis, he’s agreed and signed EA’s NDA to write and add lore to the Dragon Age IP! Meaning anything that he then chooses to adds or develop narrative/lore-wise will be under EA’s NDA and possession. So, even in the first place, anything he created, would never be Alexis’s own work, to this day, he’d have no ownership of the previous work he’s produced.
Could BioWare cut his content, sure, but they’d be no point, perhaps out of respect for the victims, but who can tell anyway what Alexis has or hasn’t wrote when the final game hits us.
The real question is, with thanks to Ghil Dirthalen, if they do use the work he’s produced, will they put his name in the credits?
This is a way more approachable way of how to disregard any line of thinking that coincides with Dragon Age 4 and an accused sexual predator of working on this game. For the upcoming marketing stages of the next Dragon Age game, I think it’d be very wise to completely drop the hammer on any association with Alexis. Especially when he’s not even working on the project anymore.
I’ve taken a very Dragon Age/BioWare flex to this news piece, because that’s why you come to my channel, to get the BioWare scoop, however, to all the victims distraught by this reveal, to all the jobs lost, and the lives ruined because of Alexis, I wholeheartedly pray and hope for recovery, and that the truth can come out of all areas of this case, and that justice can be served.
Ironically I was planning on releasing a video regarding Alexis Kennedy and what he could’ve potentially crafted within Dragon Age 4, with his cults and death centred writing, I still am going to do this next video, however, I’ll just need to shake it up a bit with this recent explosion on Kennedy.
In any event, let me know what you guys think, If there’s anything I can help with regarding this situation, let me know either through DM’s or in the comments down below.
And If I can ask, going ahead for Dragon Age 4, let’s not associate the game with this predator, BioWare staff are going out of their way to help the victims and find the truth in this situation. Respectively, the last thing they need is for their project to be associated with Alexis, especially when he was only a freelance writer probably working from home in the UK, and never really going into the Edmonton studios.
I stand for women to speak out about Alexis Kennedy. I'll not ignore Bioware company has bury of women's speak out. Bioware has to be any action. Otherwise, It will have a lot of impact on future game purchases. At least I will. I love Dragon Age and Mass Effect. these games were huge impact on me. But recently Bioware's dev news was... sad.
