Toutoune Update May 22nd, 2026 : o )
Hello everyone. Remember me?
I feel like in some ways I've been in total hibernation since March 1st. It's true that I haven't been resting though -- instead I've been steadily working every day, ordering new stock, painting walls and furniture, organizing art supplies and merch, and also planning and imagining my future in this space. Regardless of the lack of rest, I also do sense that I have been hiding a bit from the public. I realize I really do enjoy spending a lot of time on my own. : ' )
The new unit I moved into is much more private than 998 Bathurst St was. It has been a really nice change of pace for me, having moved from the direct visibility of a storefront to a hidden from the street, private office above a restaurant. There are very large windows here not dissimilar from the old storefront, but my new windows overlook a dead end back-alley in the middle of Chinatown. It's a bright space (so sunny!) and it has recently become ever more colourful. It's been a very peaceful time for me and this space has already gifted me a lot of room to quietly imagine things and it has given me a chance to reset myself after a whirlwind start to this year.
Some folks may be disappointed to find out (or hear me repeat) that I don't intend to host any more art show openings. It's true that I did put a pause on them some time ago and had been carefully tip-toeing back into them, which was nice for a time when I had access to that sweet little backyard. The new space isn't quite right for crowded events, but that's okay. I plan to continue focusing on the curation of the shop itself, as well as prioritizing my own personal practice. This new space offers the possibility of special appointment visits and I am interested in hosting walk-in / private craft sessions and or small workshops.
Although this new space is physically smaller than the last storefront, it's a quite intriguing layout, made all the better now that it has been covered in bright colours & patterns, with it's already filled rooms of wonderful art and merchandise. I'm excited to introduce everyone to the new Toutoune soon and I'm also nervous to see and hear people's reactions.
