Master thesis adventures #05:
Finished writing notes for The Discovery Of Humanity by David Abulafia
Wrote down some thoughts and ideas inspired by said book
Emailed my advisor to give her a general update
Reread old notes of another class that I thought might be helpful and wrote down some stuff on my thesis commonplace book
Continued reading Amerigo Vespucci's letters
Wrote down notes for every letter I have read so far in my commonplace book
Looked for a book I heard about that might be useful for my thesis
When I tell you today was so productive for these early stages of my research I am not joking. I can feel my brain working and connecting stuff, and I have not felt this academically alive in a long time. I am so motivated and I love it. I am finally back into my academic weapon form. I do need to make a big study plan for the next few months since I will have to simultaneously work on my last exam, buy my short term goals regarding my thesis are finishing reading this edition of Vespucci's letters and read the other edition I got since I should find a couple of new things there.

i had coffee and a pastry with my best friend in the morning, and then i got to pet her cats. a good start into the day <3 i also bought a used copy of Madame Bovary in french. it’s still too advanced for me, but i’m using it as study motivation.
today, i will:
check out a literary theory lecture about the fantastic and haunting
go to my evening class on information organization in libraries and archives. it’s four hours long, and it’s hard for me to concentrate so much in the evening. but i’m hopeful that i’ll get used to it over the course of the semester
finish reading "rubbish ecology"
make a few admin calls and reply to emails (the horrors)
pet sit for my parents
i'm excited for tomorrow, when i'll finally have time to properly work on my private research

my conference abstract got accepted! it's a rewarding feeling, and i'm motivated to work on the paper and to submit to other cfps. so that's nice. however, i'm also still feeling sick, which is frustrating. i'll do my best to rest today. my plans are:
drinking lots of tea and making ramen for lunch
starting a relaxing new novel
finishing my assigned reading for the first day of university tomorrow
teaching a short online class
replying to work mails and dealing with some problems surrounding my new apartment :/
watching sopranos and ordering food with my boyfriend in the evening
i'll do most of my work in bed today and take a nap or two
moleskine planner + mokapot latte
📘 80 books in 20 weeks
I know it looks like I’m posting the same photo over and over but in reality I’m just going to the same coffee shop and drinking the same americano and reading the same book lmao. Gorgeous weather ALL this week so it’s time to buckle down and read these here novels.

Dissolving in Light - Sasha Hartslief , 2020.

Fun new sweater knit (choosing the pattern as i go) almost immediately put on hold due to running out of brown yarn midway through the beetles.
A little bit pf progress. I bought more yarn, finished the yoke, and separated the armholes. lots of back-and-forth doing and re-doing the centimeter after armhole separation, which i got wrong repeatedly and in a dizzying variety of ways.
A little more progress. There are sunflowers now 🌻- which were my favourite pattern to knit so far.
I ran out of a yarn colour mid-way through knitting this bee motif.
Initially this was frustrating - I have to put the project on hold whilst I order more yarn. However, having had time to reflect, I think I will un-do this section and re-knit it with a new and improved bee design. See below.
V1 is over-engineered for the medium.
V2 is simpler, involves far fewer long yarn floats, and comes with a greater BPI (bees per inch).
If anybody else knows of another good bee colourwork pattern, please let me know within the next hour.
Working on a sleeve. I've surprised myself with my willingness to unpick and re-knit on this project.
See the left image for a row of condemned strawberries; and the right image for an improved second attempt.
This weekend's progress - bees, snails, one finished sleeve and neck ribbing. Plus I wove in most of the ends whilst waiting for a yarn delivery to arrive.
I have a second finished sleeve, which means I will no longer be enjoying the knitting phase of this wonderful project!
There are still ends to weave in, though not as many as you might think as I did quite a lot of them as I was going along. Will post again when it's blocked 🌻🧶
Ends: woven in 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
