FYI CHECK PLEASE IS A SITCOM
You know how sitcoms wrap up conflict in an episode or over the story arc. Yeah that’s a thing. It’s supposed to be a happy and minor conflict with hijinxs thrown in.
ITS NOT MEANT TO BE THIS EPIC GRITTY HEART WRENCHING DRAMA.
(If you want sad dead gays please by all means watch or read any mainstream media)
Boom.
Ms. U has said rePEATedly that Check, Please!was created as a direct reaction against the “tragic queers” trope. She’d recently written a screenplay where a closeted hockey player falls for a teammate and suffers because of it. She wanted instead to create a world where a gay athlete could thrive and find love and be happy.
Eric Bittle was specifically created to be happy.
I’m gonna say that again.
Eric Bittle was specifically created to be happy.
Bitty’s going to be happy. That’s how it is, and you’ve known that from the beginning.
If you think that happy depictions of queer people are “unrealistic,” then my happy queer ass encourages you to take a good hard look at the media you’ve been consuming.
Don’t blame it on on Ms. U for delivering exactly what she’s promised all along.
