And for my next grand thought; pre52 Dick should have gone through a psychological breakdown realizing he is attracted to Jason and

- thinks its just sexual at first and is ashamed of himself for it

- realizes he really likes when strangers (and people who actually know them) point out how Jason "looks just like you!"

- thinks his sexual fantasies is the result of some freudian shit and tries to get ahold of it

- angry with himself that he realizes he actually likes things about Jason

- does a haphazard, slightly demented, insulting and condescending confession to Jason fully expecting Jason to at least be open to his feelings if not accept them and being blindsided with shame, anger and unexpectedly shattering heartbreak when Jason flat out rejects him, citing Dick's major distrust, slander of Jason and inability to protect Jason's reputation as Robin [Jason didn't even hold it against Dick at first but he's being getting burned and is simply not falling for whatever "game" Dick is playing]

- okay queue psychological breakdown where he gets quickly more and more obsessed with Jason developing a complex where he's furious that Jason thinks he can "reject what is my right" [to Jason via Robin mantle, being the second born and looking so much like Dick] and starts believing that anyone Jason interacts with in a remotely positive light is competition.

Dick is still Dick though and what is he if not an altruistic, sanctimonious, manipulative mastermind of good intentions and bad decisions? He refuses to be the one to get burned. Not when its Jason. He just needs to remind Jason who the first born, older brother is and if that involves a little extra manipulation and humiliation on both their parts, then all is fair in love and war.

Can't help but think of current Bruce and Jason getting transported back to when Jason was Robin and no matter how warning and cynical either future Bruce or future Jason try to be past Jason and past Bruce aren't letting some clearly evil alternate version of themselves convince them that they shouldn't be together. Future Bruce tries to convince past Bruce that making Jason Robin is a bad idea that will only lead to suffering for them both and past Bruce is throwing hands because how dare you come in here and tell him to abandon Jason. Future Jason tries to convince past Jason not to trust Bruce because Bruce is going to let him down and past Jason is also going to try throwing hands because no, he is Robin, he loves and trusts Bruce and no lies this clearly evil stranger says are going to convince him otherwise. Any attempt to separate them to prevent future tragedy is going to drive them closer together.

It’s not lost on me how Jason is the only Robin to come from a life of poverty and crime, and is treated like a fundamentally broken monster in many comic books, given even less grace than Damian. “Something is not right with that boy” FUCK YOU DC. He was twelve years old. Him being slightly agressive because he knew, better than Batman or Nightwing or Barbara, how rotten Gotham was because he GREW UP in that environment did not make him evil or broken.

He just wanted to help people.
