Something interesting about Bionicle is that this is very much about the Toa being the heroes who protect the Matoran, but the Matoran fighting their own battles and even saving the Toa has been a theme since the beginning since MNOG

Bionicle, unlike other franchises, doesn't see the civilians as tokens to be protected, but fully autonomous people who can take care of themselves, it's just that the Toa are giants and have super powers
