Listening to some music (Heimataerde to be more exact) that put me in a mood to doodle this image up, of my OC Katrina fed up with people for good conjuring up a spell that is very nasty in effect that can be global if she desires it, one of those powerful perks of what she is as a mage.

This being a warm up doodle and practice, wanting to work a bit more on the wispy effect for pieces featuring magic.

Was bored so looked up some stock images of beaches, sketched over my giantess persona relaxing. Felt most things here are a bit off (mainly showing the figure a bit far away for a sense of scale and angling) but to be fair don’t care at the moment, this was just for some fun to pass the time, always found this sort of style fun to do.~

Hiya! Im sure u probably get this alot but,, how do u deal with artblock? Lately ive been in a p big slump, not only do i flat just not like most of my art but im also running low on inspiration and ideas. And for some reason this on feels much longer than my usual blocks. Your stuff is really inspiring so i wanna hear your take on it!

However, there’s a thing I’ve been thinking a long time, but I’ve never written about:

What even IS Art Block?

How I see it, is that our learning curve doesn’t work in a constant pattern. There is a significant time period between when we see better, and when we draw better. This is what in the art is called “Art Block”.

It’s not just art where this happens. Art is a skill, and this happens with every single skill you practice. I have similar “blocks” when playing a viola and most extremely when doing martial arts. Every couple months I have a period of time when I feel like every single thing I’m trying, every single move I’m struggling through doesn’t come out how it should. Even worse, I feel like I have forgotten even the things that I was able to do before.

THE TRUTH IS you’re not doing worse. You’re doing just as well as you did couple weeks ago. The only difference is that you BRAIN has learned to do things better, but your MUSCLE MEMORY hasn’t yet caught up with the new information. The bigger step you’re taking, the bigger block you’re having.

So what’s the answer to get over Art Block?

Cringe your teeth together and keep drawing. Even if it looks HORRIBLE just keep going. Your arm just have to learn what your brain knows already, and only way to teach it is to make it work for it. :)

For the 3, 6, and most notably 8:

Don’t get me wrong, I want a Monster Hunter movie, but seeing trough all this years awesome and detailed cosplays, artworks, great photos, reading great fandom stories, seeing talented musicians adapt MH music, etc. The bar is high thanks to all the skilled artists out there, but I expect low quality in this movie mainly because of the director and his other trainwrecks and the first photos of the film where like the sequel of Reign of Fire.

I have more faith in the Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild 3D animated special.
