On going research from the Karolinska Institute into the science of creativity has shown that the dopamine levels in creative geniuses are similar to schizophrenics. It appears the 'mad genius' stereotype may not be so far from the truth.

Scientists at the Vienna University of Technology have printed a 3D race car model with nano-scale precision.
If this kind of precision can be applied to metals and ceramics, then industries from medicine to construction to electronics stand to benefit.
Possible uses of future nano-printing technology include optimized load bearing structures (furniture, car parts, artificial limbs), complex mechanical systems (drones, nanobots, micro-engines) and integrating electronics into every day objects.

A computer model of neocortex from researcher Dr. Henry Markram. He is directing the Human Brain Project, which has received 1 billion Euro's in funding from the EU. Obama recently announced the Brain Activity Map project- a US effort at modeling the human brain.
These efforts are significant because modeling the human brain will help us understand how the mind works- which will pave the way for predicative neural models and human level artificial intelligence.
A 2010 study from the National Center for Atnospheric Research predicts drought will threaten much of the globe over the century. The breadbasket in the US, the Amazon Rainforest in South America, and the entirety of Europe appear especially effected. If this scenario becomes reality, food prices and population centers will all drastically change, throwing geopolitics and the global system into uncharted waters. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/10/101019121922.htm

NASA test fire 3D printed rocked parts [Video]
Recently at the Marshall Space Flight Centre there was a little bit of flame. Want to know more? Keep on reading below.
It took less than two months to build these prototype rocket engine injectors. These are being tested for the next generation rocket for the Space Launch System heavy lift system. They get to over 3300 degrees Celsius! What do you feed rockets? You know, the normal liquid oxygen and pure hydrogen.
During the testing, engineers reported that there was no decrease in performance form the 3D printed parts compared to the more traditional welded pieces. Those normally take over 6 months to make, and you thought 3D printing was a slow process!
You may need to watch the video a second time to see the butterfly flying about during the test. Who knows how it avoided the flames and heat.

Cody R Wilson's 3D printed gun part's represents one possible use of personal manufacturing technologies - really bringing the 2nd amendment debate into an unprecedented realm.
