Hi! I hope it's not a stupid question, but I've been wondering how come so much Enjorlas fics depict him as trans? Tbh I've only ever seen the musical so are there some references/clues in the book that make it canon or semi-canon? I'm really enjoying lots of the fics you recced so far and would love for it to be canon but if not, then Hugo missed a great opportunity and knows nothing ;) Have a nice day and all the best x

There are multiple moments in the book that can very very easily be read as trans enjolras. like people can argue for days against this argument but the fact is. It can be read that way. VERY EASILY. He’s often described to have very feminine features (literally describes him to look like a 17yr old girl) and the fact he cannot grow a beard. I could probably go very in depth but that might take me 100 years. I love it. 

So in short yes theres absolutely source material to support trans enjolras and so our little trans hands are going to hold onto that with loving care! now go forth and conquer!

Enjolras is not meant to be in love with anyone. He is meant to love humanity, but to stay apart from everyone. To be the statue that everyone wants him to be. Almost everyone. Enjolras can tell it hurts Combeferre to keep him at an arm’s length, and Enjolras lets his friends be his only indulgence. It is easy to believe in humanity when you surround yourself with people who inspire you, in any case.

Everything starts to go well between them, and Enjolras starts to think he can let go of some of the burden of humanity. But then, of course, everything goes wrong. Because Combeferre falls in love with someone that isn’t Enjolras.

I love this blog but the majority of the fics I've seen so far are like. Enjolras HATES HIS BODY SO MUCH and clearly written by cis people. Would like to see a bit more positivity and a few less obviously cis authors.

I know what you mean :/ Unfortunately there’s so little fics about trans Enjolras (and even less is tagged), that it’s quite hard to find those written by trans people and which are not about coming out, dysphoria etc. But! we have some more positive fics on the list of those which we still need to add! 

(And we encourage our followers to write fics and if you have any questions about writing stories with trans characters in them, we are always open to answer all your questions.)
