Yue Qingyuan back rolls… 🤤
Yue Qingyuan stretch marks… 🤤
Yue Qingyuan cellulite… 🤤
Qijiu both have chronic pain, and when environmental influences cause them both the flare at the same time, neither will let the other leave bed. Your ass is NOT walking this one off. They just lay in bed together until Mu Qingfang appears.
Writing prompt? No. Writing much delayed.
one thing about me is i’m gonna go lay down
I seriously love AO3. Like what do you mean that I get extra content of my favorite fandoms for free?? What do you mean that some of the Shakespeare-level writing is what we could only dream to get in canon?? What do you mean I can read all the content tags and warnings so I know what I’m reading and can choose what I enjoy?? What do you mean I can search and filter for specific troupes and emotions instead of vague genres?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO ADS AND ONCE AGAIN IT’S ALL FREE?? Ack I’ll never get over this website lol <333
Actually it’s seven ate *out* nine. You see qijiu—
Dragging Qijiu towards a "Happily Ever After" in a story is a funny process, because to be true to the characters, there's only so far I feel that I can go over the course of a given story. Look, they're on positive speaking terms and maybe they won't die tragically young now, taking an entire sect down in flames with them in the process. That's honestly pretty GREAT for the two of them when you think about it...!
What if au where Yue Qingyuan doesn't wake up after being taken out of the Linxi caves as a disiple. He isn't dead, and he's being kept alive and healthy by Qian Cao, but he just doesn't wake up.
Shen Jiu manages to get into the sect anyway, by killing Wu Yanzi at an opportune time and begging the immortal master before him to take him in.
After he's been on Qing Jing for a while, mourning his Qi-ge silently still, he hears someone mention a name. He stops them.
"Repeat that."
"Repeat what-" "About the disciple at Qian Cao."
"Oh, Head Disciple of Qiong Ding Yue Qi? He's been asleep for years, the girls on Xian Shu like to gossip that he'll one day wake for his true love." And they shrug and go about their day.
So Shen Jiu asks his Shizun, who tells him everything they know.
And Shen Jiu visits Qian Cao and demands to be able to see Yue Qi. He sits beside his bed and brushes his fingers against his knuckles.
"Stupid Qi-ge... Rushing yourself like that. I don't know what happened but... You're going to get an earfull when you wake up, got it?" And Yue Qi's fingers twitch.
Mu Qingfang is floored, dropping the tray he'd been holding and rushing to grab his shiuzn.
Shen Jiu is practically ordered to stay by his side, and so he does. And eventually Yue Qi wakes up again, to the soft plucking of guqin strings and a gentle hum.
He turns his head with effort to see the person and can hardly rasp out his startled "Xiao-Jiu...?" through his dry throat and heavy tongue.
The guqin clatters to the floor and Shen Jiu shouts something he can't quite make out, but then Shen Jiu has his hand and is slowly feeding him spiritual energy- Spiritual energy! Yue Qi is so happy, so proud of Xiao-Jiu.
"Xiao-Jiu, how are you here...?" He asks once he's able to speak properly again. "Qi-ge is so happy you are-" And he's tearing up because he thought he would never see him again.
"As if you could escape me so easily, Qi-ge."
it will always piss me off how yue qingyuan could have prevented shen jiu's ending specifically because of the parallels between the qijiu/bingqiu abandonments. like. are you kidding me.
the main point of pain for both SJ and bingmei is the contrast between the happy and sweet early relationship and the abrupt casting out. there's also a physical visual separation for those last scenes (the door qijiu is talking through, the cliff between bingqiu) that shows how their relationship becomes rapidly misaligned.
additionally, they both really just want an explanation, and the conflict in the story comes from not getting anything close to that. SJ and bingmei are both confused and spiraling, and they both jump to the worst conclusions (thinking YQY didn't care about him, worrying SQQ hates him) for lack of an actual explanation. and both SQQ and YQY refuse! to give! an explanation! even when it would be a good time to explain!!!!!!
i also think there's parallels in the scene where SJ kills Wu Yanzi to the scene where binghe comes for SQQ in the tomb. the injured party is the one who initiates the rescue, and in return the abandoner tries to protect them too (YQQ bringing SJ back with him vs. SQQ fighting off everyone in that damn tomb). even though these scenes have reciprocation, neither relationship is fixed.
the endings are different depending on how the spiraling goes. SJ becomes worse as he lives at the sect, and Yue Qingyuan never intervenes. When binghe has his big breakdown, SQQ embraces him and does his best to address his actual concerns. binghe is taken seriously, but shen jiu is treated with kiddy gloves. this is why bingqiu is able to succeed where qijiu couldn't, shen qingqiu puts in the repentance for what he did.
the narrative sets both SQQ and YQY as unwilling abandoners, constrained by their circumstances. and sure, they can both know they did all they could for the one they love, but that moral righteousness means nothing when your silence is pushing someone to become worse.
would shen jiu have accepted YQY's explanation/applogy? i personally think so. and i think if he didn't feel so alone, his cruelty would have lessened (like how binghe becomes less unstable when SQQ reciprocates his love). it's not a perfect solution, but he could have done SOMETHING
ultimately, i think Yue Qingyuan is a case study in what happens when you separate yourself from the consequences of what you've done, and how self-doubt can result in not even considering another person's feelings so long as you still have access to them. communicate in your relationships, guys .....
Yue Qi getting de-aged and an emergency peak lord meeting is called. Shen Jiu is acting sect leader and decides that he will be caring for Yue Qi. Liu Qingge accuses Shen Jiu of doing this to the sect leader as some sort of power grab. Yue Qi, wearing his sweetest smile, beckons the war god, asking him to lean down and listen. The minute he does, this 12 year old grabs the front of his robes and lands a wicked uppercut to his jaw. Ordinarily this isn’t something that would hurt Liu Qingge, but he’s so stunned he falls back. Yue Qi addresses the room, saying, “Let that be a lesson. Be nice to Xiao Jiu or else!”
Distantly, Shen Jiu remembers all the times Yue Qi pulled the same trick on adult beggars all that time ago. He was the only slave kid big enough to be a threat to the adults in a straight fight, so whenever someone tried to get violent or handsy, he would step in. Now he would do it to an immortal cultivator. For Shen Jiu.
Another paper doodle I did in bed being sick hehe
This time using @a-piece-of-carrot-cake comment and idea of Yue Qingyuan having been turned into a bear ! Hopefully this paper doodle is enough to show how cute of an idea it was !!!
I think I had more planned but I forgot what in between two sickness induced sleeps/naps oopsies ! (´∀`;) So I decided to post it as I don't seem to remember the idea I had... Oh well ! (*´~`*)
The nature of Qijiu is that every so often you will see a post or art or a fic about them that just makes you want to scream so loudly it shatters the sound barrier. Like there's just always a new way to feel agony, isn't there :')
*Coughs up blood*... pleak.. I've been diagnosed with death..only cure??? Qijiu kissing *noises of dying*
NO DONT DIE HERES THE CURE!!
Also an extra dose
One thing that kinda frustrates me about Shen Jiu fics is that they so often try to sanitize him. Make him nicer/more misunderstood than he actually is.
Like, he was definitely very misunderstood in source material, but he also was straight up a terrible person too, y'know? Both things can be true at once.
The biggest thing is his treatment of Luo Binghe, playing on the idea that it wasn't *as* bad as the characters thought it was. Now, this is just plain wrong cause we know from the extras that SJ gave Binghe the fake cultivation manual with the intent that it would literally explode him. He really wanted to murder that kid, yall. Loony toonz ass villain. Keep this man away from children
And he was definitely a total asshole to all his coworkers, even during disciple days. The other Peak Lords are under no expectation to like him nor tolerate his behavior, especially since they (except Yue Qingyuan) don't know about his backstory (very intentional on SJs part)! SJ very deliberately ostracized himself. His nasty reputation didn't just spring up out of nowhere. He has agency even in other people's opinions of him.
This is particularly notable in his interactions with Liu Qingge. It wasn't "LQG bullies poor SJ and spreads nasty rumors about him." It was a rivalry, a give and take between the both of them. They were both assholes to each other, but clearly, despite the animosity, there was some deeper feeling (SJ being so affected after LQG's murder accusations and then later death). Again, agency is key here.
He's also completely unrepentant until the very end! He will never apologize ever, so no sudden "oh god, what have I done?" heel-turns for him, buddy. If it was that easy, then he wouldn't have gotten human sticked in the first place.
SJ is tragic and sympathetic. SJ is also an awful person and a complete asshole. He's allowed to be both, and both of these sides of him are what makes him an interesting and engaging character.
various preg YQY doodles
I bet those post-canon heavenly meetings are.... interesting.
Xie Lian shows up reeking of ghost qi, Pei Ming is amused but Mu Qing and Feng Xin sure aren't, poor Ling Wen is still paying for her crimes, Quan Yizhen is NOT paying attention, Yin Yu reformed recently and has a bad feeling. Plus the absentees Lang Qianqiu who overslept and Yushi Guang who is living her best life and still doesn't bother showing up.
The key to writing good fanfiction is to harbor a deeply humiliating desire, and the trick there is that even pretty basic and societally-accepted desires like “being held” and “being wanted” CAN and WILL be humiliating if they’re intense enough. Become so estranged from human connection that the idea of someone playing with your hair fills you with yearning so deep you feel like you’re going to throw up and you will write some banger fanfiction. It might have some other consequences too but idrk about that.
