Each peak has a resident herd of celestial spirit-animals. Qing Qing Peak has Unicorns. Territorial, reclusive beasts that tend their own, not letting maiden nor young boy touch them. Not even considering older disciples, or the peak lords. So, isn't it a surprise when that Quong Ding Head Disciple boy goes missing from the caves, he comes back with a snarly feral, sootstained creature that is constantly followed by no less than three of the ivory-haired beasts?
That they treat him like their brass-haired young, shielding him behind their sabre-horns and leading him to the rich spirit grasses and flowers to bolster his damaged cultivation?
I just think that shen 'rumored on cqms to be a human-cultivated unicorn' jiu is such a fun idea. like. yeah hes a mean little bitch as he grows up but his spiritual beast mothers made sure he knew a bit more love than in canon

The unicorns of Qing Jing peak were notorious for their foul tempers, soothed not by purity or power the beasts were as aloof as they were prideful. They bowed only when using those crystalline horns to pierce the flesh of their foes. Their mercy is a gift not bestowed often, reserved for members of their own kind rather than humans. Territorial and ill-tempered, with a towering size that was more than enough to back their attitudes up. No cultivator dared to get too close, for there was never a way to tell whether you’d be the next to become the dirt beneath those hooves.
The unicorns tend to come and go when they please, rarely ever descending the mountains. When the head disciple of Qiong Ding peak goes missing while confined in the caves for recuperation nobody thinks much of it. The boy had been trying to go down the mountain before confined, perhaps this was his attempt at being rebellious. He’d turn up soon enough, the unicorns frequented the Qi-dense caves—they’d certainly chase Yue Qingyuan out if he was roaming around in there.
Nobody pays it that much attention until people spot the unicorns of Qing Ding at the bottom of the mountain, three of them to be exact. Their steps were thunderous, heads are raised with a type of pride only a beast of their caliber could possess. Beneath them was a trail of blood, their white coats dyed a deep crimson. The largest of the three had a body dangling from its horn, penetrated through the neck. Their victorious cries traveled far and wide as they walked. Not many noticed the children walking in front of the herd at first, when they did Qiong Ding’s sect leader was informed immediately.
There, followed by three of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect’s most temperamental beasts, was a rugged-looking Yue Qingyuan. By his side was a feral looking child—too dirty to discern the gender of—holding onto Yue Qingyuan’s sleeve with a wary intensity. When the sect leader arrived at the scene, standing before both child and beast, he wasn’t sure what to expect. Wasn’t quite sure what to do either. Yue Qingyuan held the child her was with closely, looking at the sect leader with a determination that rivaled the intensity of his determination when he first came to the sect. There was one option here, a fact clear to both the sect leader children themselves.
“…I’ll be monitoring your cultivation closely.”
The sect leader said after a tense standoff. This much was enough to maintain his dignity while offering a compromise. Not explicitly giving in yet not denying anything either. Yue Qingyuan bowed his head in thanks, thanking his Shizun loud enough to cooperate with his teacher’s desire to save face. It was a small price to pay for keeping Shen Jiu at the sect. The sect leader let his gaze linger on the interesting sight for a while before he turned and flew back up the mountain, sparing nary a glance nor a word. Yue Qingyuan just pulled Shen Jiu forward, his heart beating loudly in his ears as he recounted the events leading up to the moment.
The negativity brewing in Yue Qingyuan’s heart had attracted a Unicorn. As creatures of the divine, it was not so pleased with the amount of negativity being produced—it approached Yue Qingyuan with a bowed head and a flicking tail. Yue Qingyuan could do nothing but grip his sword and watch the beast closely. Though once it got close enough it paused, smelling Yue Qingyuan intensely.
Yue Qingyuan didn’t move, he just let the creature sniff at him. He hadn’t had much of a chance to wash up when he’d been trapped, immobilized for the greater half of his stay in the cave. That was apparently a good thing though because the unicorn’s somewhat primitive voice rang out somewhere within his head.
Yue Qingyuan didn’t know what to say. He hadn’t seen anything besides this unicorn, much less any foals. The unicorn seemed adamant that Yue Qingyuan knew about a foal though. Yue Qingyuan tried to think, tried to recall even the slightest sign of a unicorn—but his mind kept traveling to Shen Jiu.
“That one! Yes. That foal. Where?”
The unicorn tapped Yue Qingyuan’s head with its horn, hard enough to hurt but light enough to avoid a major injury. ‘Xiao-Jiu?’ Yue Qingyuan thought, wondering if he was missing something. The Unicorn tapped his head again, harder this time.
Yue Qingyuan grasped at the opportunity to escape and go get Shen Jiu. He was nearly stumbling over his words as he pointed towards the sealed exit of the cave.
“Down the mountain—he’s in trouble I need to find him.”
Yue Qingyuan spoke, ready to start pleading with the creature to free him so he could find his Xiao-Jiu. He hadn’t neither the time nor need to start his pleading though, because soon he found himself clinging to the neck of a unicorn like his life depended on it. The unicorn gathered two of its companions and took a path that Yue Qingyuan was unaware of, descending the mountain in record time as he guided them to the Qiu estate.
