Spirit, Mind, Heart
Art by Kyoung Hwan Kim
that au wehere ilyukhina and yao dont die and everyone is a bit more happymaybe? a bit sillier?
So, unlike Eridians, we discovered fire very early on and so our civilization kinda grew up with combustion right? We've had thousands of years to normalize it and get comfortable with the idea of using it casually for warmth or cooking etc.
In contrast, Eridians had to discover fire in a lab since their atmosphere doesnt have O2 like ours. So they dont have, like, an entire culture normalizing fire.
> Be me. Rocky the Eridian cosmonaut
> Tell Grace about Eridian space elevator design made out of Xenonite. Grace very impressed, says humans only dream about making space elevator.
> Odd? Ask Human friend Grace how humans got into space. Expecting some high tech solution since science humans clearly know more physics.
> Grace explains Humans strapped other Humans on top of Fire-Explodatron-9000 machines made out of weak human metal, basically Eridian cardboard, then shot them into orbit. Grace say the fire it makes is quite pretty to look at

Part 2
Knowing that Eridians have much longer lifespans, and also he can't be at every school on the planet at once, Ryland Grace decides to record a bunch of entertaining science lessons with Rocky's help.
Hundreds of years later, Eridian kids still get excited when the substitute teacher rolls in the 3D shape projector, because they know they're in for an episode of Friend Grace the Science Ace.
Your partner came back from the dead after being missing for decades. Every one of their friends who they went with ended up dying a horrible death.
Now, somehow, their entire mental health is based on the continued life and happiness of this fairground goldfish that they picked up.
Neither of you know the first thing about how to care for even a healthy fish. This fish has been poorly cared for, has multiple diseases and the person who handed it over explicitly didn't expect it to live nearly as long as it already has.
You're frantically googling how to set up a fish tank, where to buy fish food, can you even take a fish to the vet? Your partner wants you to know that they're happy they made it home and survived their horrific ordeal, but also that if anything happens to the fish then they're going to kill everyone on this planet and then themself.
You're honestly wondering if you're even helping the fish, or just prolonging its suffering, but your partner will only accept medical help for their many injuries or engage in basic self-care once they're confident that the fish is being looked after.
So you get a tank. You set up a filter and all that stuff. You learn way more than you ever wanted to know about water temperature and ph and nitrate levels. The fish is safe. You start to develop some affection for the little guy. Your partner begins to recover. The fish begins to recover.
Which is when you learn that in its 'healthy' state, the fish regularly refuses to sleep when tired, keeps begging for food that is obviously unhealthy for it (and struggling to eat the food that you do provide because “it tastes gross”), and continually tries to persuade your partner to take it out of its nice safe tank so it can go explore the wonderful world of Outside, where the slightest mishap will kill it instantly.
Your name is Adrian, and you kind of wants to strangle this fucking fish, statement.
ACTUALLY heres another one i quickly animated of rocky beating the shit out of grace

rocky learns about the Denmark incident :]
I am not immune to behemoth Adrian propaganda
Can you imagine being stuck in space completely alone with only the corpses of your friends for company, and the first living thing you meet after 46 years of that misery is a fucking weird alien creature who just rolls up with crazy advanced tech and goes "hi let's work together" and makes it possible for you to save your world through the power of friendship and molecular biology. AND THEN you find out that in this creature's language, its name means "mercy". Happened to my good friend Rocky btw
Some head canons I have about how each octonaut has had to adapt to the octopod, and how the octopod has changed to accommodate some of them.
We'll start with the Vegimals(which I didn't get to add to the height chart because I got a new phone and lost all my art)that are only about half the size of Peso. They're itty bitty and when they came around Shellington was determined to make sure his babies were safe and comfortable at all times. Tweak installed pulleys to any high surface. Especially in the kitchen. There is a fully functional and elaborate pulley system in the Octopod's kitchen, so their love of cooking can be satiated and safe. Smaller utensils were ordered as well, and the game/rec room was installed for them more than anything. Shellington and the Vegimals all dog pile in the garden to sleep.
Peso had to get used to how tall some of the counters were. It made working in the med bay a bit of a challenge for his first month on the octopod, and he used a stool until Tweak lowered them. Now the infirmity is mostly Peso sized. He also had to get used to not sliding everywhere on his belly. He does torpedo out of the chutes on his belly though and the momentum carries him down the halls pretty well. (Kwazii doesn't know how he can get so much speed). He also had to get used to sleeping on his own. Usually his family would huddle together to sleep, and they would do so standing up. He sleeps with Shellington and the Vegimals when he's feeling homesick.
Dashi adapted the quickest out of all of them, and made herself at home. There wasn't a whole lot she had to change. Except her room. She filled her room with pictures and color and painted everything how she liked. She was content to swim and explore any time she needed to get out of the octopod. She does get a little antsy if she's inside for extended periods of time, but she's learned to give herself plenty of distractions.
Professor Inkling loves his library, and it was a request he had made during the early development of the octopod. Tweak found it fitting to put it right in the middle, since if you asked any of them they would say that he is, without a doubt, the heart and center of the octonauts. She put a pulley system in there too, one that allows the professor to access any and all of the shelves. And of course he had to get used to not having nearly as much mobility as he would in the water, but he was happy to adapt.
Shellington throws himself into his work a little too much. He loses complete track of time, and often falls asleep standing at his work station. He never even asked for his own room to sleep in when he first joined the team, even though they offered plenty of times. It wasn't until he started raising the Vegimals that he actually started setting up a schedule for himself. Even in the first stages of their growth he just stayed up to watch them. Once they got a little bigger and started moving about on their own, he realized that he should probably fix his sleep schedule and develop some healthier habits. From then on he made sure to wrap up any projects he was doing once it got dark and go curl up with his babies, who had made themselves at home in the garden. There's a thick patch of moss off to the side that's almost completely obstructed by what's growing, and acts as their bed. While they were growing though he basically baby proofed everything in the octopod. With Tweak's help of course. The Vegimals will now drag Shellington out of his lab if he ever gets too caught up in his schedule.
Kwazii. Oh Kwazii was something when he first joined. It took him the longest out of everyone to get used to living like an octonaut. I've mentioned before that he did work as a real pirate for a while. He went from surviving in a pretty hostile space, to something much more gentle. Everything about the octopod set him on edge for the first few months. Too many walls, not enough space. He couldn't smell the salt of the ocean, couldn't see the stars, couldn't feel the wind in his fur, couldn't climb up and feel as though he was one with the sky and sea. He was volatile and snappy towards everyone, and depressed anytime he was by himself. It took a long time for him to adjust, and he only started improving once he started going on more missions and Tweak finally gave him a chance at driving the gup b. She ended up putting ledges in some areas of the octopod so Kwazii could satiate the occasional urge to climb.
Barnacles has a lot that he's had to integrate into his day to day to be an octonaut. His size, for one thing. He's massive in comparison to everyone else and had to learn quickly how to navigate in what to him is a pretty cramped environment. He has to duck to go through a lot of the doors. The only things that really suit his size are the things in his room, the chutes, and the navigation wheel. Not only that but his diet. Obviously everyone on the octopod's diet has changed, but Barnacles needs a lot more to sustain himself, so his meals are his alone. Kwazii tried one of his nutrients bars and to this day refuses to touch them. They're packed full of so much fat that it's honestly disgusting to everyone except Barns. Polar bears are almost exclusively carnivores as well, and it's taken him years to train himself out of his craving for meat. His room is also freezing, thanks to Tweak, who designed the floor of his room to circulate freezing water. The only other person who can stand to be in his room for longer than 5 minutes is Peso.
Tweak, the genius who designed and built the octopod, made herself a room separate from everyone. Her nook acts almost like a den, what with the way it is carved into the wall of the launch bay. It's small, the closeness of everything makes her feel secure, and as a bonus whenever she wakes up with inspiration for a new invention, she can start making it then and there without having to worry about forgetting it in the morning. She does that a lot, waking up in the middle of the night just to work on something. She also has her room where it is because she likes being close to all the most vital systems of the octopod. Just in case she can quickly fix anything that goes wrong. There's always something new she can build or upgrade, and it's what she enjoys doing, so her adjustment was fast. The octopod is her home, without a doubt. It's obvious to everyone how much love and care she put in designing and making every aspect of it.
@emmythebean i might draw a second panel to this later....
That red button thats glowing is Capt'n emergency coolant!! His suit constantly cools him off, the button just serves as a kind of "turbo" for the cooling systems. It drains the battery quite quickly so thats why its for emergency situations only
Rough drafts of my human designs for the gang >:DD
Tweak and barnacles are my favourite ones I've done
If anyone wanna ask me about them I'll gladly talk 👀👀👀
