On Loving Them Both, Megan Rockett
Donât Tell Girls
âYouâre too pretty to be singleâ Why is one personâs idea of ideal aestheticism A basis for a relationship status And furthermore What is so goddamn shameful or pathetic about being single anyway Is confidence and comfort in being by oneâs self intimidating to you
âSwearing is unladylikeâ Bullshit Swears are only words And these words do not negate my intelligence, or passion, or define anything about me as a person or my character Men are never told not to swear Swear as much as you fucking want
âYour standards are too high! Just give him a chanceâ No You are invalidating a womanâs right to say no She doesnât need to explain herself to anyone She doesnât owe anyone anything Ever Everyone should have standards for themselves, and not feel like they need to lower them to please anyone Or be shamed for leading someone on when they know it would never work Because that happens too
âIf you dress like that, boys will get the wrong ideaâ What idea might that be? That women might actually feel beautiful and confident in their own bodies? Heaven forbid Because obviously womenâs bodies belong to everyone else except themselves
âDonât frown - someone might be falling in love with your smile!â Why Is it my responsibility to always smile no matter how I feel I am a human being who is allowed to experience pain, or confusion, or sorrow, or boredom Men are never criticized for having âresting bitch faceâ
âShort hair makes you look like a boy!â This is assuming That there is one certain way for âboysâ and âgirlsâ to look Not so Some boys have long hair, some girls have short hair, some people who are both or neither also have hair Hair has no gender Humans are allowed to look different from each other and express themselves how they like Gender identity and gender expression are not the same
They arenât ârealâ girls because they were born with a penis Anyone is a girl who says they are a girl Stop trying to undermine someoneâs identity They know themselves better than you do Anatomy and identity are different, and sometimes separate Why are you so obsessed with other peopleâs genitals anyway
âYouâre going to break a lot of hearts one dayâ Why would you ever Ever Say this to a girl A young, impressionable girl Breaking hearts is not a compliment, or a goal Coming from someone who has broken at least one From simply being honest and being myself It is a burden - a guilt that has been (mis)placed on my shoulders since childhood I never wanted to be labelled a heartbreaker simply for existing
âYou donât want kids? Youâll change your mind one dayâ No I wonât Even if I do, one day, that doesnât make my opinion right now any less valid or deserving of respect Stop disbelieving people about their own life choices Also, having children is not a necessary milestone for a successful or fulfilling life
âDonât have sex before marriage - boys really want a virginal girlâ Sure they do And are boys ever held to that same expectation To stay virgins until marriage? Because as women are shamed for âimpurity,â boys are applauded for âexperienceâ I love the smell of double standards in the morning
âYou shouldnât wear so much makeupâ The natural look is great The makeup look is great The anything you feel like doing or not doing to your own face look is great Let people do whatever they want to their own bodies Whatever makes them feel good Why do you care
âSelfies are just for attentionâ Maybe Maybe not Whatâs so wrong about liking attention Whatâs so wrong about feeling beautiful and confident in your own skin And wanting to share that feeling with others We were taught for so long to hate our bodies What is so threatening about finally loving them
âCat-calling is flattering! Learn how to accept a compliment!â âI like your hairâ is a compliment âYouâre a really talented writerâ is a compliment The gross, vulgar things that men shout at women they donât know on the street Are not compliments They are harassment - meant to imply ownership and dominance and even violence Compliments should not make people fear for their lives walking home Compliments should not actually get people killed

please boost the fuck out of this.
^!!!!!!!!!!!
What triggers my anger is when that person who happens to be a female says:Â âI donât need feminism. I donât need to be liberated.â
How about you tell that to:
that Moroccan girl who killed herself after being forcibly married to her rapist (x)
that 11-year-old Texan girl who got raped by 18 men while the New York Times said she âdressed older than her age.â (x)
Reyhaneh Jabari, an Iranian woman who was tortured in jail then hanged after killing the man who was going to rape her. (x)
Nojood Al-Ali from Yemen who got divorced when she was 10. (x)
the 16-year-old girl from Ohio who got raped and filmed at a party by 2 boys, while CNN reporters talked about the bright futures of the rapists as athletes. (x)
the 94 women in Jordan who were legally married to their rapists, only in 2014. (x)
the 8-year-old girl who was married to a man 5 times her age, and died on the day of her wedding because she suffered from bleeding and uterine rupture after intercourse. (x)Â
the 25 Palestinian women who were killed by either their brother or father, in order to âprotect their honorâ only in 2013. (x)
the 99% of Egyptian women and 90% of Yemeni women who have experienced sexual harassment (x) (x)Â
You still donât need feminism?
condoms are free because 40 million people died during the aids crisis, and the vast majority of them were lgbt+, sex workers, or both. condoms are free because people dying of aids had to fight tooth and fucking nail so no one else needed to. condoms are free because people were having real actual die ins as form of protest. condoms are free because the government laughed while the lgbt community was dying, until they were forced to fight back. condoms are free because they save lives, everyday. they save rape victims lives, they save lgbt lives, they save sex workers lives, ect. saying condoms are only free for the benefit of men is transmisogynistic, classist, homophobic, and completely ignores the struggles of sex workers and rape victims.Â
so the next time you bring up the fight for free menstruation products (and yes, you will have my support in that) leave free condoms out of itÂ
#TechStandsWithPP: A message from Tumblrâs CEO and Planned Parenthoodâs president
When Planned Parenthood was founded a century ago, it was illegal to even hand out information about birth control. Thanks to generations of brave women and men who formed secret societies, challenged unjust laws, and started Planned Parenthood health centers in their own towns, weâve come a long way since. Millions of people, regardless of income or insurance coverage, now have access to birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing and treatment. Each year, Planned Parenthood proudly provides health information to nearly 70 million people online and 1 million people in classrooms and communities across the country. Today, America is at a 30-year low in unintended pregnancy and a historic low in teen pregnancy.
But all of that progress is a reminder of how much women and men in America now stand to lose. Extreme politicians at every level of government are doing everything they can to block millions of people from coming to Planned Parenthood, deny access to affordable health care, and roll back womenâs rights over their own bodies. We are facing a national health disaster, especially in our most vulnerable communities.
Thatâs why weâre calling on the tech industry to join Tumblr in standing with Planned Parenthood and standing up for access to health care.
A 100-year-old health care provider and the platform powering 335 million blogs may seem like an unlikely pair. But over the last few years, Tumblr and Planned Parenthood have teamed up to provide information and organize communities in support of reproductive rights. Weâre proud of all weâve accomplished together and with overwhelming support from the Tumblr community.
Technology has become instrumental in the fight for fairness and equality across a range of issues. It has the power to influence public debate, mobilize communities, and â most importantly â offer creative solutions to help people receive better care, no matter where they live or who they are. Finally, the tech industry owes its success to the brilliant people it employs and the communities it serves â and we cannot take their health for granted.
It wonât be easy, but doing nothing isnât an option when lives are at stake. We need to work together to break down barriers to care and information for the millions of people desperate to take ownership of their sexual and reproductive health, and tackle disparities in health care access and outcomes.
Now is the time to be vocal, visible, and active in your support of Planned Parenthood â starting with the #TechStandsWithPP hashtag to share stories about how Planned Parenthood has touched your life, or the life of anyone you know. Call on your co-workers and peers to do the same.
In health care, education, and nearly every industry, weâre doing things that would have been unthinkable a century ago. Think of all we can achieve together in the decades to come if we combine the creativity, innovation, and energy of the tech community with Planned Parenthoodâs commitment to helping people everywhere â no matter what.

beautiful and sad at the same time
Almost teared up wtf
If youâre more than 62 miles from shore youâre closer to outer space than you are to land.
I keep thinking how much more powerful the Spiderman origin story would be if Peter Parker was an African American kid, whose Uncle Ben was shot by police while being arrested for a minor parking infraction. There is no formal investigation, and Peter decides to put himself on the line to prevent it happening again. He tackles the white crimes that go unpunished, punishes POC criminals fairly. He is the leveler, always fighting to be without bias, to be just. To protect people like his uncle.Â
This not only mirrors so much of whatâs happening in America, but feeds right into the complex relationship between Spiderman, the authorities and the media.Â
Peter Parker is a brilliant student, awkward, a nerd, but is branded a thug, a gang member, a criminal, because of his appearance. The media latch on to that and misrepresent him totally.
The police, humilitated by the fact that he refuses to work with them and often punishes cops themselves for brutalizing innocent people, or guilty people who still deserve better treatment than they get, attempt to hunt him down.
I had to.
oh man. This is the shit.
The âwith great power comes great responsibilityâ line gets such a deeper meaning within this context.
Not to mention a white nerdy boy with glasses is not the look of a social outcast or person of ridicule anymore.
did you know that in 1953 eisenhower issued an executive order which banned gay people from being employed in government
and it was specifically to root out lesbians who enjoyed the job security of government work
âTo protect their careers, lesbian government workers moderated their behavior to avoid suspicion. They refused to socialize with other lesbians in public, attended social functions with gay men as their âdates,â and carefully chose their wardrobes and makeup to project a feminine persona. Male employees who resented reporting to a female boss could trigger an investigation into her sexuality.â - Robert J Corber âCold War Femmeâ
this era was called the lavender scare and was both a direct result of mccarthyism and the classification of homosexuality as a mental illness during ww2. over 10,000 lesbians and gay men lost their jobs and as a result the daughters of bilitis (the first ever lesbian activist group in the u.s.) formed in order to protect themselves and gay men
Important history
This always makes me so sad
If yâall really want to go there, we can. Letâs talk about Black women and stereotypes. Angry Black women? Dark skin. Hoodrats? Dark skin. Babymamas (although no one wants to have kids with us) Dark skin. Welfare and crackheads? Dark skin. Crazy exes? Dark skin. Unsuccessful? Dark skin.
Wives? Light skin. High school crushes? Light skin. Love interests in almost every movie made after 2002? Light skin. Signs a Black man is winning in life? His girl/wife is White or LIGHTSKIN. The only kind of Black woman acceptable to be seen with as a rich Black man? Light skin.
If yâall want to fucking go here, we can. Everything from classic movies to current rap hits tell the Black boys that a lightskinned woman is worth loving. Every chance a rapper gets, he letâs it be known that lightskinned women are the prize.Â
Are White people racist? Absolutely but guess what, they still going to pick you over me ANY DAY. So all those internships, jobs, promotions and credits you had to fight for, believe me, there was a dark skin girl fighting harder. Dark skin women been fighting so long, yâall forgot that Claudette the original DARK SKIN woman who refused her seat on an Alabama bus had to watch YOUR GRANDPARENTS AND UNCLES recreate it with a light skinned Black woman so it would be received. Yâall better miss me with the bullshit.Â
Im âlightskinnedâ (mixed) but this is so important!!!!
đđđđđđđ
Fun fact: never seen a wifey material meme with a darkskinned girl in it, never seen a âhood ratâ meme with a light skinned girl in it đ¤
I talked about this last year! The majority of misogyny is geared towards dark skinned women. Hoodrats, crazy exes, baby mamas, ugly girlsâŚ.all dark skin. The most lightskinned women get from misogyny is bashing of hoe culture.
I donât believe out of the millions of instances of colourism in the Black community that you managed to name the one instance where colour didnât play a major role.Â
When people who donât understand the many instances of colorism comment on your post đđđđđđ
Iâm talking about the mention of Claudette as a civil rights leader. She wasnât made a representative because she was 15, pregnant, and inexperienced. Not because of her complexion. Nor was she the âoriginal,â she was one of many women that bravely refused. I hate how âdesperate to one up each otherâ black history â"expertsââ try to use her as the anti rosa parks, as opposed to just one of many civil rights heroes. It certainly wasnât a colorism issue.
Claudette Colvin refused her seat March 2, 1955, her son was born March 1956. Therefore she didnât get pregnant until June of 1955. Oops, I think thatâs AFTER the incident. Do your research before you declare bullshit. Colorism was very much shushed and swept under the rug. Thatâs where people like you get it from.Â
In her OWN words: âAnd I didnât fit the image either, of, you know, someone they would want to show off.â
â They wanted someone mild and genteel like Rosa.â
Claudette Colvin was a poor dark skinned girl that our grandparents werenât going to stand by. Itâs that plain and simple.Â
Damn, this is so good
OMGGG
Do you ever wake up in the middle of the day and think why am I awake I need to go to sleep? because I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that I was meant to be a vampire, but haven't found a creepy masochistic Edward yet
The thing about this is that sculptures like these in art history were for the male gaze. Photoshop a phone to it and suddenly sheâs seen as vain and conceited.Â
Thatâs why Iâm 100% for selfie culture because apparently men can gawk at women but when we realize how beautiful we are weâre suddenly full of ourselvesâŚ
âYou painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting âVanity,â thus morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you had depicted for you own pleasure.â â John Berger, Ways of Seeing
I know Iâve reblogged this before but itâs so important.
