best trope is the one where the character’s godlike power is also killing them btw. they don’t even lift a hand to kill the monster but now they’re delirious with fever. they save a friend’s life and said friend immediately finds them emergency medical care. they raze the enemy to nothing and it takes far too long to find their pulse with all the bruising. their friends just constantly having to patch them up and worrying over which feat will be their last. et cetera

Propaganda

Ed's a master tactician! He's a terrible flirt! He's got the eyes, the beard, the fit, and the sexy lil voice! Tummy and arm! He's gay and has daddy issues! What more could you want from a man???

Jonny's the self-proclaimed captain of the starship Aurora (though everyone else calls him the first mate), and one of the lead singers in The Mechanisms, a spacefaring cabaret of immortal pirates with lovely voices and extremely gray morals. He hails from New Texas, he's got a heart made of metal, and he likes to play the harmonica and shoot things.

Jonny has most of the stuff Ed has, and more! He's also gay!! And has daddy issues!! He has a whole song about that, complete with a harmonica solo. Maybe he's not a master tactician but I think "shooting the machines until they explode" can be more fun. Also, voice. Jonny has such a good voice. Incredibly versatile, too, he can voice multiple characters in the same album (and also narrate!) and they all sound distinct. Eyes, he's got eyes, always accentuated by lightning-bolt-esque eyeliner (fandom debate whether this is eyeliner or alien species markings or something else, but it is very gender euphoria to wear). The fit, he has some iconic fits, really captures the steampunk pirate (with a hint of cowboy!) vibe. Tummy and arm, Jonny doesn't really have that but honestly I wouldn't really describe Ed as having tummy. Arm, sure, but not tummy.

Beyond the stuff mentioned in Ed's propaganda, Jonny's immortal (die and come back regenerative immortality, which is so fun) because of his mechanical heart. He's the lead of an incredibly queer cabaret band that tells tragedies through narrative albums. They're steampunk, but also scifi, and also throw some other genres in there too. Balanced diet and all that. On at least one planet he committed literally every crime except the sex crimes. He's had a warrant out that says "just arrest the fucker" and the crew as a whole has had warrants out for breaking the laws of physics. He likes fun, violence, adventure, and the great British bake off. I love him and he should win
