OHHHH i get why i love puppygirls so much. dogs are domesticated, right? former wolves who are mostly pretty pets now. the capacity to bite and be feisty, but typically soft and sweet and playful, happy to be at your side while willing to defend you. usually seem scarier than they are until you spend a moment with them. and i love a sweet, soft thing! hold her close, tend to her, keep her safe in my lap while she occasionally growls at a rogue passerby.

whereas i am an earnest, vicious predator. a doe by all means, but also something worse more. something with a vice-like bite and a tongue just as sharp. people see the dog at my side and mistake her for a hound, a vicious thing, taking me for the weak prey animal in need of protection. while, in earnest, she is my perfect complement; a pup, by every definition. loyal and sweet and tender. i am the real threat. but the pretty puppy at my side keeps me levelheaded and kind, while i keep her safe and protected. be wary of my fangs.

Autumn is an incredibly clear and well-thought-out speaker, and I'd highly recommend reading or watching her full interview. Even though these circumstances are an extreme injustice, she remains both pragmatic and hopeful, and I found it very encouraging to hear her perspective.
