Hey folks, I’m having a shit time of things financially speaking, being out of work since late January. My housemate is barely making enough on her own to keep us fed and keep the lights on, and that’s with some savings to dip into (for now).
I’m trying to find work, but I’m struggling because most of the remote jobs available for my area are in health insurance sales, and getting and staying licensed would be expensive for me. If anyone can help with some ideas of the sort of work I should look for, here are the Musts:
- Work From Home (I assist with medical needs in my house, so this is ideal)
- $15/hr minimum
- Training and equipment provided
- Medical and dental benefits (I have some dental work that severely needs doing, and very soon, or I’m at risk for losing at least one tooth completely)- Day 1 benefits ideal
- No licenses or certifications required, or to be paid for during training by the company
- My main skills are Microsoft Office, typing, and call center experience, but tbh my mental health can’t handle much customer service work anymore, so minimal direct interaction with customers is desired.
If anyone can throw me some ideas or knows the kind of work that would fit into that list, I’d hella appreciate it. I’m getting kind of desperate, and opening up art commissions has never worked out for me in the past, so I don’t expect it to be any help now.

Starship genuine danger to the people who live here. It's to the point many of the people here when they heard the explosion joked that it was probably another one of Elon's rockets.
This is a horrifying pattern we are becoming numb to, we hear about a planned test launch and brace ourselves for more debris.
Several of Musk's attempts at rockets, especially after the deregulation, have resulted in catastrophic explosions. Want the list? Here are a few!!
December 9th, 2020- Starship serial No. 8, or SN8. Exploded upon landing.
February 2, 2021- Starship SN9. Exploded upon landing.
March 3rd. 2021- Starship SN10. Landed in one piece. Fire at the skirt caused an explosion.
April 20, 2023- Starship. Exploded once more. Debris scattered in Port Isabell.
March 6, 2025- Flight 8. Spun out of control and exploded in a mass of fireballs. Planes had to be grounded due to the mass explosion and the debris are stills scattered in the ocean.
And now we have the most recent and the worse one yet.
June 18-19, 2025- Starship 36 during a GROUND test caused a mass explosion, the looming mushroom cloud causing locals in Cameron to believed they had been bombed.
The loser describes this it as a "rapid unscheduled disassembly" instead of what they are: fiery failures locals have to deal with as a result.
Pretty much everyone locally knows Elon Musk and his negative impact on our home, people who have had the unfortunate curse to have worked with him and the center call it Cultish, 8 members of his staff who spoke out against his behavior and sexual harassment were all fired.
Its a well known fact he hates the people here, and he goes out of his way to find employees who are not from this area and move them down here.
Musk has tried to encourage even more white people to come down to South Texas and live in his "Starship City". An attempt to gentrify and push out local citizens.
Rebekah Hinojosa, a local Activist with Another Gulf Is Possible, even had her home unlawfully entered by police after an alleged graffiti on a mural he commisioned (which didn't even obscure the mural).

So every year, my aquarium does a captive lobster hatchery project (hence all the loblings). The reason we’re doing it is because in the wild, loblings only have a 1 in 25,000 chance of surviving their larval phase. They’re plankton as babies and everything eats them. Additionally, as the Gulf of Maine warms, they are having even lower survival rates because the blooms of copepods they feed on as babies are happening earlier in the year, and they’re missing it.
Obviously, the goal of this experiment is to grow the lobsters until they’re big enough to settle to the seabed and then release them, because they have a much higher likelihood of surviving to adulthood when they’re able to hide. Ideally, captive lobster hatcheries can boost the wild population and keep things stable, so we don’t have a major crash in a decade or two.
The first year we tried this was pretty bad. We had a lot of eggs, but very few babies. It turned out that the CO2 levels in the building spiked as more guests visited throughout the summer, and that settled into the water and threw off the pH and caused a chemical reaction that prevented a lot of the eggs from hatching. I think we ended up releasing three baby lobsters (which is still better than their wild survival rate but not great).
The second year was a little better. We added a de-gasser to the aquarium and got a ton of larval lobsters, but right as they were settling to the bottom we had a disease outbreak that killed most of them. We ended up releasing four babies at the end of the season.
But this year? Oh boy. We have so many lobsters that we had to release the first round early (usually we wait till September or October so guests can see them). We just released a total of FIVE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE baby lobsters, and we still have over a hundred who haven’t settled to the bottom yet. I genuinely don’t even have words to explain how cool this is. OVER FIVE HUNDRED. We just added hundreds of lobsters to the wild population that wouldn’t have been there otherwise.

Let's not beat around the bush: Children's author JK Rowling sexually harassed someone. In some jurisdictions, this would count as sexual abuse. JK Rowling has committed a sex crime against a woman and fell back on the old rape apologist standby of "she was asking for it".
2. Fix breed standards and re-emphasize health and QoL over aesthetics, particularly for brachycephalic breeds. And Dobermans. Give them a 5-10 year timeline to figure it out if you want to be nice, but fix it.
3. Ensure working breeds are capable of performing the work they were meant to do. Working Line/Show Line divergences should not be anywhere near as drastic as they currently are, and it means the breed standard has diverged from it's original purpose.
4. Make tail docking/ear cropping optional for all breeds.
5. Make a new category for companion dogs (or expand toy breeds, idc) and intake a few of the "family dog" breeding projects with different looks/sizes. If we're gonna make the working breeds work, we should also have good options available specifically for pet homes.
This is one of many reasons why scientists are (sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly) moving away from "male" and "female" flowers to calling them staminate (pollen-producing) and pistillate (seed-producing). Plants just don't fit our definitions of "male" or "female," rendering the old terminology insufficient - though, really, even humans don't fit this binary!

For Intersex Jam 2026, I made an informative zine. “Intersex Inclusion: A Crash Course for Creatives” is a quick primer on how to include intersex experiences in your creative works. The text-only version* is available for free, licensed under CC BY 4.0, and I encourage others to repost and use this zine in place of asking random non-activist intersex folks about how to represent our entire community with dignity.

Overwhelmingly, the most common question I see from allies to random bystanders who just so happen to be publicly intersex is “how do I include intersex people?”
I know they mean well, but it gets tiring. I hold no enmity for them in my heart; in spite of that, I’m tired. I want to see folks like me being considered at all—without having to see random, non-activist intersex folks awkwardly struggling to rehash the same three points again and again because well-meaning but ignorant allies keep asking the same question of non-activists while prostrating and flagellating themselves over how they didn’t spawn into existence as a perfect ally. It’s such a demanding task that thinking about it makes me want to roll over and take a nap.
Fortunately, I am an old dog incapable of learning new tricks; hence, I am back on my bullshit to provide a bunch of infographics loosely assembled into a zine. I made sure to pack it with resources and citations good for your nutrition, all with love from the universe.

Actually, I wanna talk about the third horse, the one putting its ears back in pain. Over the last 15 years veterinarians and animal scientists have worked out pain scales for most domestic animals by taking photos of the during routine procedures.
We know vaccines painful, and by comparing horses at rest with horses getting vaccinated, we've been able to determine how they express pain visually. By looking at horses with disorders like colic, broken bones, wounds, and so on, we can determine their facial expressions during more severe pain.
At zookeeper school we were drilled through the pain faces of the most common lab animals and livestock. Nowadays I believe this has become a routine lesson in all animal related fields, but the general public still doesn't know that this is a thing that exists.
