aqua-naut: Oooh that's a good idea. I'll probably buy freeze dried since my parents would probably not enjoy having wingless fruit flies in the house

I'm gonna try to make my own fish food in the future. I'll need to gather supplies first but I will soon! My bettas are fed high quality food but I feel like they need more insect in their diet, and I wanna be able to provide that to them! But I don't wanna do gel foods :'/
He’s moving a lot more today, rather than just sitting at the bottom. …although the pictures say otherwise.Â
Man, I really miss this little guy. Swim in peace, buddy. I'm sorry I couldn't save you.
I'm too lazy for aquascaping so this is a wisteria jungle
What is your feeding ritual for bettas?
I give feed my bettas North Fin Betta Bits (all for fish foods made in Canada + quality ingredients) 6 times a week and fast them on Sundays. I feed blood worms as snacks whenever I have them in stock. I also have a cheap food I feed for when I can't find my NF stuff. It's the backup for when my life is a mess. (Also sorry for the late reply, I am so inactive on this blog!!!)
A lot of bubbling going on in the betta trio! (Cristate > Deimos > Uranus) Cristate's was there when I came home and I'm pretty sure Uranus made his within the last hour. Deimos is a passive bubbler. (Also ignore my gross plants I haven't done much with them in a while. hopefully again when school ends)
So this is Uranus. Would you guys say he's a rose? His tail looks so heavy and definitely not like a normal halfmoon tail
Also a short video of all of my sons. Cristate, Tuxedo Mask (name subject to change), Jazzhands (name subject to change) and Fredrik being a butthead and hiding under a log.
Here's some photos of the last guy I have space for. His name for now is Jazzhands but I would love name suggestions <3
A PSA to every new fishkeeper out there:
Water conditioner (which includes products such as prime and stress coat) and very safe and very effective products. You do not need to worry about adding too much (I mean don’t dump a bottle in, but doubling or tripling the recommended amount won’t do any harm). You also do not need to leave your buckets of water out for 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate, the water conditioner will do that pretty much instantly. It won’t interact with other things you might add to the tank. I’ve seen a few posts about people being concerned about water conditioner, so I’m writing this post to let you all know that water conditioner is pretty much a miracle product and it’s very hard to go wrong with it and that you should trust it.Â
Oh cool, I’ve been wondering about this! I always wondered if it was more harmful to have too much or too little and now I know! Thanks!
It’s also a good first aid when you think something is off in the tank but don’t know what.
True, but some water conditioners are better at relieving stress than others, and some detoxify harmful waste levels. So different brands have their pros and cons!
I highly suggest having BOTH Prime and API Stree Coat. The prime temporarily detoxifies ammonia/nitrite/nitrate. Stress coat helps repair a fishes slime coat and destress them.
hold up hold up for one second… there is one very important exception to this rule: if you are treating your tank with Cupramine, do NOT add ammonia binding water conditioner or any other ammonia binding agent (like Prime). the Cu+2 will be reduced to Cu+ which is about 10x more toxic and can wipe a tank.
it’s best to use a water conditioner without any ammonia binding agents during treatment. if you do use Prime, dose it into a water bucket and let the water sit for 24-48 hours, since Prime only stays active for that long,,,,,, just plan your water changes ahead.
Wow, I didn’t know that, thanks!
I haven't gotten a new betta since Saturn passed but this guy was calling for me. But I kinda forgot my tank was all black so uh. Oops. His name is Tuxedo Mask
Hello everyone! I haven't posted anything really fish related in a while, so here's the two dudes I have at the moment. Fredrik and Cristate! This year I'll have had Fredrik for a year…he's changed so much and he's my first betta that hasn't had any health complications. My others seemed to end up being sickly. But Cristate is doing well, too! I hope I can make a year with him as well. :>
Who would believe this little fucker used to be white
small poll: how many people have uncommon fish in their tanks? I have an elephant nose and a snakeskin gourami. they're both quite uncommon but my store stocks elephant nose pretty frequently and the only snakeskin gouramis I've seen on my store have both been mine. so what are your uncommon fishy friends? species doesn't matter, it could even be a different colour variation of a commonly stocked fish in your LFS.
I haven't posted in a while... As a small update, Saturn died for reasons unknown. Cristate is still going at it though, which is good…I don't think I could've saved Saturn, his state was declining so quickly no matter what I did :(
