I demand to know on what grounds protestors are being arrested and I demand to see the proof behind their reasoning. We have the right to assemble and we have the right to freedom of speech. I have seen countless videos of peaceful protestors being detained, their loved ones given the run around regarding their whereabouts, and people being attacked by police for exercising their rights. There are no laws being broken. People are being detained in broad daylight, no curfews in place. They're followed into their homes and harassed by officers despite calling it a night. And then what? Are these people going to jail? Are they going to stand trial? Why are state and city officials putting in place curfews with the hopes to arrest protestors? Why is their power threatened so greatly by those exercising their rights?
I think every person of authority right now has some explaining to do. If they have the power to make arrests and put people purposefully in situations in which an arrest is warranted- then they should have to explain why they're doing that. And I will not accept public safety as an answer because we have seen time and time again in COUNTLESS first hand videos recorded by protestors at the scenes that the protests, whether during the day or at night, are peaceful until they are met with force by police or are taken advantage of by proven racists, white supremacists and so on.
And any MAGA proponent who sees this post- I ask you this: you are so quick to bring down news sources and journalists who oppose Trump by stating "fake news." Claiming that the media will twist things to incite mass hysteria or what have you. Basically, you say the news is fake when it's proving Trump is overwhelmingly bad. But right now, you're eating up twisted articles and reports from news stations about the protests that are outright falsified. I have seen nothing but Fox News being used as the source of information for the racists damning the protests. But reports from fox news juxtapose ACTUAL accounts from the protests it's sickening. So why isn't the news fake now?
And let me also make the point that your president is going haywire worried about voting right now. The US Postal Service is in danger of bankruptcy and will likely go under this summer. This is great news for Trump who has denounced mail in ballots as being fraudulent for, well, I have no idea why he says that, because, logically, anything that could apply to him in a vote would also apply to his opponent so long as the voting is fair. But, a mail in ballot would make voting accessible to many of those who did not vote before. Those who do not have transportation, those who worked during voting season and didn't have time, those who just simply couldn't be bothered to physically go to a location to vote. That's right, a huge population of registered voters who do not exercise their right, would then have no excuse- and that is terrifying to a man who got all his power from the sheep who are at his beckoning call. His supporters that could be easily outnumbered if mail in ballots are used. Don't let his feeble attempts make you believe mail in votes would be fraudulent. If it's done properly, then it won't be. Notice Biden has made no such outcry.
It's time to start demanding honesty from our authority figures. WE elect these people and give them these powers. It is our right to demand reasoning.

Interestingly enough, I don't believe I said anything about blocking roads. I said I demanded reasoning. That is a reason, is it not? I live in CT. Protesters gathered on our largest interstate highway, literally immobilizing it. And yet the police were able to peacefully disperse the crowd, no arrests made. Don't tell me it isn't possible. And don't pretend making innumerable arrests throughout the country is a constructive way to solve the issue on either side of the argument. The point of my post was to consider what kind of country we live in if arrests are made for people exercising one of their rights. That doesn't sound very free or American to me.
It feels to me like you, and people who hold your beliefs, just want these crowds to be silenced. I said nothing when people gathered at state capitols with their assault rifles to protest quarantine, despite believing differently than those people, because they were exercising their American rights.
Why do both sides have to argue with each other like this? We all just want the same things.

In an honors writing class in college, we were assigned a project where the subject was whatever we wanted, the only qualification was it had to be an argumentative presentation in which the audience had to be swayed to want to put your piece into practice. I believe 2 women in my class did projects on racial and class injustices within the criminal justice system, two BEAUTIFUL pieces. To my delight, my project complimented there's well, as I did an argumentative piece about applying morality to presidency. I'm reminded how my classmates and I agreed that with positions of power and authority come great ethical and moral dilemmas. While ethics and morals tend to be seen as subjective matters, I think it is something worth considering that an elected official prove their moral good or at least their moral unbiasedness.
An authority will never be able to achieve unity if their policy creates division.
