So, we know Nymphadora Tonks’ patronus is a wolf, because she loved Remus. JKR (not that I support her, I’m just restating what she said is canon) said that Tonks’ patronus changed because “your patronus only changes if it’s eternal love, unchanging- part of you forever”.
Now. Who else’s patronus matches the one of the person he loves? Snape. Remember this fact.
Going back in time a bit, we know that James & Lily Potter had stag & doe patronuses. I’m not entirely sure if it’s true or not, but I did read somewhere once that this was because they complete each other, not because they are the same. Look at Ron and Hermione- a jack russell terrier and an otter. Jack russell’s are known for chasing otters.
Snape’s patronus was a doe, because he loved Lily Evans, but he did not complete her. Tonks’ patronus is a wolf. But, wouldn’t that mean Tonks and Remus complete each other too?
No. I don’t think so, because look at Sirius Black. His patronus was speculated to be a dog, which would make sense because James’ animagus was a stag, his patronus was a stag, etc. Wolves and dogs, guys, think.
Without wolves, we wouldn’t have domesticated dogs. That bond between wolves and dogs even today runs deep. Think about how your dog acts if you give them some raw meat, or when they stalk birds in the back yard. You cannot have dogs without wolves. You cannot have one without the other. In a way, they complete each other.
Tonks’ love for Remus Lupin was eternal, just as Snape’s was for Lily. And while I do think Remus loved Tonks, she did not complete him. Sirius Black did.
