🌷 Mimicry Trolls (Open) Trolls species ! 🌷

I made a little original species reminiscent of bat trolls etc.. with extra info lore and behavior-wise. If anyone would like to make one, you’re more than welcome !!, I have some info listed below !

Being small in a world full of threats poses challenges, one has to adapt. A certain species of troll did… and excellently. It was long before the first string had been pulled that they stopped changing. They didn’t dance or sing even as the years fell into one another… the thing that made them special was their sheer ability to survive. The infamous mimicry trolls.

The only thing that trolls outside their communities have been able to gleam from them is simply the ferocity of their territorial aggression and their ability to disappear in the blink of an eye. Never wander into known territory if you can help it or you might come out with stories better told around a campfire

Mimicry trolls tend to live any number of different habitats. Like birds, despite being the same species, they can very quite a bit depending on the environment they evolved in. Their differences mostly lie in their camouflage, their ancestral coats tend to match the areas they live. They prefer spaces far from other settlements of trolls, but their territorial aggression has guaranteed it regardless of where their colonies form.

Traits:

🌲 VERY community oriented. They have their own sub-groups that are part of a larger colony. each sub-group has their own shared den, but they’re spaced evenly throughout a larger territory. You’re bound to run into alpine trolls if you travel into their area.

🌲 They have a specialized double coat for camouflage. Both coats match their environment, but each has its own role. Some trolls may have a coat for summer and a coat for autumn, though most trolls’ second coat tends to be white for the snow seasons.

🌲 They have the ability to instantly grow/shrink one layer to immediately match better to whatever shade is behind them. Unlike regular trolls, their fur is somewhat “fixed” so they can’t turn their hair purple or blue on a dime like most trolls, they can only work with what they have.

> They hunt and patrol in packs, so where you might spot one, it’s likely there are several you haven’t spotted yet

🌲 They have large, thick, leathery, and hard to damage wings, they’re colored in a a soft and velvety layer of hairs that changes color with their body. They open them with such power you can hear a snap as the wind catches <:hope:1383609310432723044>

🌲 societal structures rely heavily on mutual aid, the elderly and sick are cared for carefully. They have rightfully earned a reputation for making their territories treacherous and inhospitable to anyone that may step foot in it. Within their own guarded areas however, it’s a little piece of heaven for those who live within it. Generally, they tend to be pretty kind to each other. They engage in social behaviors like grooming each others fur and hair to help build/support friendships and avoid dreaded things like fleas..

🌲 The highest position in the colony is that of the leader. One only gets that title by both showing capabilities in decision making, protecting, and most importantly, winning the “nicest to the youth and elderly” competition…. 😁☀️

🌲 Young alpine trolls tend to be comically small, they’re born underdeveloped (They have internal pregnancies) and remain in a sheltered space with one parent while the other provides, but when they grow a nice coat they resemble rabbits with wings because of their size) and tend to have boundless energy as they run tunnels through the snow and play fight either other alpine trolls regardless of age. They can be pretty annoying about it, though…

🌲 Although trolls tend to love staying in their communities, some seek freedom outside of it and choose to leave. Rarely, they’ll live with the musical trolls, otherwise, they’ll go out into the world seeing a place to make their own. Although it can be rewarding, these groups are usually formed of young adults that may go through volatile swings as they figure out how building a community works. They’re so called “growing pains”, but they can prove dangerous to wandering creatures and trolls regardless.

My inspiration includes one of barbs concept arts, Cat behavior/appearance, and primate behavior !, they’re fully aware as the trolls they are, but I do love seeing them having cute animal traits !

💥❤️ Bash ( Barb x crash) 💙🌀

All day I’ve been feeling kind of at odds with my artwork, so I decided to play around with Barb and crash for fun before bed !

Crash and Barb are both dense as rock trolls when it comes to sensitive emotions… even so, Barb probably recognized her feelings for crash sooner. It took a LOT to have crash even conceptualize her feelings for the other. Crash is a VERY loyal person to Barb. She’s the permanent drummer in barbs band after riff left to create with his own band of college friends after graduation.

Crash may appear dumb to most since she’s very airheaded, aloof, and tends to come to the wrong conclusions about things unless she specializes in them (such as navigating, drumming, and planning.)

Both Barb and crash are on opposite ends of the presence-scale. As a kid crash was very introverted and easily stressed, but after crash and barbs parents became friends, the overly curious and reckless Barb brought her into so many crazy situations that they ended up bonding over it. Barb learned through these experiences how to temper her patience, communicate, and be more sensitive about her effects on others. Crash became more flexible emotionally and acclimated to the rock lifestyle she was having difficulty catching up with growing up.

‘She also grew a massive respect for Barb which led her to become barbs right hand, but in time their familiarity as friends turns to romance during the repairs of barbs rock apocolypse !

The drawings:

The first drawing is barb pining and crash being wholly oblivious

The second is a comparison between crash’s original design and the one I’ve developed over time

The third features a period when crash had to have braces- likely several times because she always forgets her retainers and has particularly stubborn teeth

What's your opinion about King Peppy? "No troll left behind." But what about Viva? She got left behind! And not just that, he kept it secret and never mentioned her again...

👑 King Peppy: “No Troll Left Behind”… Except?

So. King Peppy. The hero. The legend. The troll who saved everyone from the Bergens and built a new world of safety and joy. …But then Viva exists. And suddenly, the whole “No troll left behind” thing sounds less like a motto and more like a guilt mantra.

What we need to know first is:

What is the timeline? We need to know what kind of leader King Peppy is/had to be

How many got eaten on his watch?

What decisions did he have to make?

Let's dive in:

🌳 BroZone: the safe years

Before the horrors of Bergens hit, BroZone existed. Branch, Bruce, Clay, Floyd, and John Dory were living in the Troll Tree while it was completely free.

Key point: no Bergen threat during BroZone. None of the band members saw any Trolls eaten

Branch’s childhood here = pure freedom, music, friends, parties, and happiness

BroZone’s existence gives us a clear 'pre-trauma' anchor: this was the last period where Trolls could live without fear

So for a while, Branch grew up in joy, Poppy was a baby, and Peppy was leading with optimism, the kind that would become his public persona.

⏳ The timeline and Peppy’s impossible choices

BroZone breakup / JD (and the other brothers) leaves = ~20 years ago (Branch literally says to JD that he came back “20 years too late”)

Escape from Troll Tree = Poppy ~0–1, Branch ~4–8

Bergens/ first Trolls eaten (including Grandma) = closely after BroZone ends, short but intense (~1–5 years)

Thirth movie = Poppy ~22, Branch ~24+

The key moment: when the Troll Tree was captured by the Bergens, it wasn’t a long period. Peppy had to make immediate, impossible decisions to save as many Trolls as he could.

💔 How many Trolls might have been eaten?

Let’s do some rough math:

Bergens eat Trolls once per year

Could be one Troll per Bergen, or maybe a dish made out of Trolls (as we see in Chef's Cookbook)

Estimated Bergens: 30–100 (medium-sized village)

Trolls eaten per Trollstice: ~1 per Bergen → 30–100 Trolls/year

Duration of first capture: ~1–5 years

Estimated Troll losses:

Conservative: 30 Trolls × 1 year = 30

Realistic: 50 Trolls × 3 years = 150

Max: 100 Trolls × 5 years = 500

So even a short period of captivity = potentially hundreds of Trolls lost. Peppy watched it happen, and he survived while so many others didn’t. His decisions weren’t cruel: they were tragically necessary, made under extreme pressure and uncertainty.

👧 Viva:

And now… Viva.

She was left behind, intentionally or not, during the evacuation.

Peppy never mentioned her afterward. Why? Likely because:

He assumed she was already safe

Revealing her (and others) being 'lost' might have destabilized the group that was saved

It added another unbearable layer of guilt he couldn’t face

Viva’s absence is a perfect example of Peppy’s impossible leadership: you make the best choices you can in chaos, and sometimes it still feels like failure.

He even continues to make these decisions in the first movie (hides when others are taken away, keeps the others safe.) And the second movie, when he wants to run and hide again.

🌈 Story implications

Branch: childhood = freedom → sudden trauma → guarded adult personality

Poppy: optimism shaped by Peppy’s leadership

JD, Bruce and Floyd missed the entire trauma window

Clay: stumbled onto the Trolls that didn't make it out with Peppy. (Known as the Putt Putt Trolls and of course Viva)

Viva: Peppy’s hidden guilt, the secret cost of survival

Peppy: outward joy masks grief, hundreds of Troll lives lost, and impossible moral choices

King Peppy = tragic, brilliant, human.

Presided over freedom and terror

Lost potentially hundreds of Trolls on his watch

Made impossible, life-saving decisions

Survived while carrying guilt, grief, and secret trauma

He’s not just the happy, kinda crazy dad king we see: he’s a survivor, a strategist, a leader, and a man haunted by every choice he had to make. 💔✨

#GOOODDDD YEAH YOU GET IT #I felt like I was in the TRENCHES defending this man #I LOVE how individuals react to grief and it’s soooo clear he suffers from it #but it’s like people are allergic to analyzing complex older characters who have messy emotional responses to things
