I love Ronan’s arc in the first two books because at the start you think Ronan attempted suicide but then you find out that’s actually a cover story for the fact that he was attacked by a dream creature. And then you find out said creature is called Manifestationofmy Suicidalthoughts.

i think bluesey is so compelling to me because gansey is forced to like blue for her personality. the kiss curse takes away any possibility of physical intimacy, so all of gansey's feelings have to revolve around who blue is as a person. there is still so much yearning there, but it's built first on their relationship, not physical attraction.

so many book romances begin because the characters find each other hot, and personality crushes develop (maybe) later (if we're lucky). bluesey did it the other way around. and that's why i love them so much.

it's also important to note that blue's personality is very much not stereotypically feminine. she is entirely self-sufficient and independent, and it's clear that she is in control of her feelings for gansey; if he were to be manipulative or dismissive toward her, she would simply walk away! she is perfectly okay being on her own, and she's not going to take anything from anyone just because they're pretty! and gansey is still down bad for her.

Tinfoil hat moment but I don't think he was dumb, I think he was strategic. He put her in a situation in which she had to either: sell her car (so the only means of transportation is now in his name), or maybe even to drop out (to have time for the second job) if she wants to feed the kids. He did it right when she was aaaaaalmost done with her degree. Either way, it's sabotage.

Sometimes when an action makes NO sense to us ("he's like a stupid alien"), it's bc we are not understanding its true motivation/purpouse. If his goal was control, financial pressure and limiting her options due to lack of funds, it makes perfect sensie to buy the truck.

I think ifs dangerous to assume incompetence when you cant prove beyond a doubt that its malice. we live in a patriarchy and while I cannot know this mans intentions, i think its foolish to just assume its him being stupid. so many straight men leverage power over the women in their lives, esp their partners, by feigning ignorance over the impact of their own actions. too many men continually get away with financial abuse because people assume that suddenly, when it comes to the things the man wants, they cant do basic math.
