FROM A MYOPIC NOTION OF FREEDOM TO A REDEFINED, EXPANDED ONE

The 4th of July, Independence Day, symbolizes freedom from tyranny and multiple constraints, and the birth of a nation built on liberty (for some) and multiple Diversities (including Linguistic Diversity).

Just as the Founding Fathers & Mothers sought to break free from oppressive constraints, we too should embrace linguistic freedom, freeing ourselves from the confines and shackles of monolingualism.

Historically, both Spanish and French supports were crucial to our independence—Spain, for example, provided vital resources and military aid, while France's alliance and decisive victories were indispensable.

By learning either Spanish or French (or both), we honor their contributions, enhance our cultural understanding, strongly improve our personal growth, communication and employment/life skills, and strengthen the very fabric of our diverse, globalized nation.

This Independence Day, let us celebrate by expanding our linguistic horizons and strengths, and by embodying the true spirit of all Freedoms!
