Harriet Riley

Harriet set off to Larchmont Park at 3:45 PM on January 9, 1975, with an understanding that she was to be home by 5:15. A witness saw the first-grader playing alone on the sidewalk next to the park around 5 PM. But, Harriet did not come home by 6 PM as expected. Mamie Riley, her mother, phoned police and the search began.

Some feared a serial child predator was on the loose in North Sacramento. On October 24, 1974, 11-year-old Stephanie Black disappeared from a bus stop less than three miles from Larchmont Park.  Eighteen days later, her decomposing body was discovered in a rice patty.

Over 200 sheriff’s deputies and volunteers were aided by air force helicopters as they scoured the area through Thursday night and into Friday morning when the search broadened to include surrounding rural areas, Stephanie Black’s case fresh in their minds. Neighbors on Grattan Way—many of whom had their own young children—reportedly searched for Harriet until Friday morning.

Around 9:30 AM, a cleaning woman opened the lid to dumpster at the nearby Terry Crest Apartment Complex to find the missing six-year-old’s body. Harriet had been wrapped in a plastic sheet,  with a plastic bag over her head. Unlike the body of Stephanie Black,  Harriet’s body showed no obvious signs of violence or sexual assault. The coroner would later confirm the cause of death was suffocation.

The story went that Harriet began playing with two six-year-old boys from the neighborhood while at Larchmont Park (it is unclear if Riley knew the boys before January 9). The two boys told detectives they were “having a good time” playing with Riley, first in the park, then in the “residential neighborhood,” and finally in one of the boy’s homes (it’s unclear where the home in question was located).

The boys told investigators that the last game they played with Riley was the one that proved fatal. While the specifics are unclear, this “game” supposedly involved binding Riley’s ankles with twine and covering her face in a plastic wrapping material.

“We do not believe the body was moved by the little boys,” Sheriff Lowe stated during the press conference. While the Sheriff said it was unclear who exactly did place Riley’s body in the dumpster, he hinted at the possibility of parental involvement, stating his “strong suspicion” that felony child neglect was involved. Her death was ruled as an accident and her death remains unsolved.

What’s most interesting though is that mainstream media doesn’t even mention female shooters when they claim to show the history of the crime — but I guess they’re going by high scores. While its true that most shooting sprees are committed by males, it is also truethat most child abuse, neglect, and murders are committed by females.

In August of last year, 19-year-old Sydney West moved to San Francisco, California, to attend UC Berkeley.

Sydney spent her childhood growing up in Pleasanton, California along with her family before they made the move to Chapel Hill, North Carolina when Sydney was a teenager.

Following her high school graduation, Sydney decided to take a gap year and she spent time traveling to Australia. Since Sydney is named after the city of Sydney, it was a special vacation for her.

Sydney was excited to continue her education at UC Berkeley this past summer, and she ended up moving into a San Francisco apartment with a few of her friends.

Less than 2 months after Sydney moved to San Francisco, she vanished.

To us, his legal team, to his two beautiful and talented daughters, to his mother, brother, and sister, and to the countless people around the country who came to know him and his story in recent weeks.

Brandon made one terrible mistake at age 18. But he did not kill anyone, and he never stopped feeling shamed and profound remorse for his actions in the crime that took the lives of Todd and Stacie Bagley. And he spent the rest of his life sincerely trying to show, as he put it, that he “was not that person”. Brandon showed us that and so much more, carrying himself with grace and generosity, and always treating everyone around him with kindness and respect. He worked to help other troubled kids avoid similar devastating mistakes, and he lived every day his commitment to serving both God and humanity. 

Many things went wrong to put Brandon on death row, including egregious government misconduct in concealing evidence and misleading the jury, which the courts refused to remedy. Before Brandon’s execution, five of the jurors who sentenced him to death said they no longer stood by that verdict. They joined the lead appellate prosecutor on Brandon’s case in urging President Trump to commute his death sentence to life without parole. Those pleas for clemency were joined by hundreds of thousands of supporters, including celebrities, faith leaders, and members of the United States Congress.

Brandon’s execution is a stain on America’s criminal justice system. But I pray that even in his death, Brandon will advance his commitment to helping others by moving us closer to a time when this country does not pointlessly and maliciously kill young Black men who pose no threat to anyone, when we hold prosecutors to the highest standards of integrity in every case, and when our leaders exercise their moral authority where it is needed.

brandon bernard’s is not the only federal execution scheduled. according to the bbc, trump has five executions scheduled up until january 20th. we need to keep fighting so that these executions do not happen.

26 Years Ago, Jeffrey Dahmer Was Beaten To Death With A Metal Bar

Jeffrey Dahmer needs no introduction. The infamous sex offender and serial killer has become the subject of numerous documentaries, and his name has become forever synonymous with true crime.

You might know all the details of who Jeffrey killed (and then dismembered), but you might not know that he met his end while serving his sentence.

Jeffrey was killed by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver on November 28th, 1994. Christopher was serving a life sentence for murdering his boss.

Speaking to CNN, Christopher explained why he grabbed a metal bar from inside the weight room and did what he did.

“I asked him if he did those things ’cause I was fiercely disgusted. He was shocked. Yes, he was.”

He swung the bar at Jeffrey’s head, bludgeoning him. “He ended up dead. I put his head down.”

After attacking him, Christopher headed to a locker room to take the life of another inmate named Jesse Anderson, who was behind bars for murdering his wife.

For the killings, Christopher was given two life sentences.
