Sorry to all followers who have never heard of Ib, it is a soft horror game that was released free in 2012 and my SO had not absorbed it yet so we have nearly finished playthru 1. He is a "No Walkthroughs" type (wild, I told him there were a few endings).

So I'd like to say I think Ib is like, I tiny bit too young to attend Ravynwood, but I think she would be a Balance or maybe a Pyromancer [iynyk] , and that Gary would be an Ice wizard.

i agree with Myth School Mary just because of vibes. i think she could definitely also dual-school with one of the astral magics, maybe shadow (again for vibes reasons) or Star because it’s pretty and it focuses on the self (and she’s kind of selfish, not that i blame her.)

(although now that I’m thinking about it, storm school mary captures both her creativity and her dangerous, chaotic energy. kind of interesting that two opposing schools both fit her!)

i also agree with balance school ib— this part of their description from the website especially fits her: “in their minds, all things deserve consideration, and there may be many answers to a single question.’ this describes her compassion and her ability to easily adapt to the dream logic of the gallery really well!

ice school garry is interesting, and it definitely fits his personality, but i would also like to propose death school garry. apart from being emo, their whole thing is sacrifice, which fits with his recurring imagery of the Hanged Man tarot card. I also think he would look really cool with some of those weird black thorn vines that appear in a lot of death spells. also… you know. four out of seven endings of the game.

i might draw these sometime.

random headcanons go!

garry has strabismus and it gives him pretty severe double vision, but he doesn’t want to/can’t afford to get the surgery that fixes it, or glasses (he doesn’t think they would look fashionable enough) so he just covers the affected eye.

ib prefers chocolate over other kinds of sweets, but after garry showed her the wonders of macarons, her eyes are opened to fruit candies as well. mary is like a vacuum when it comes to food, she doesn’t care what kind it is.

they’re all autistic. look at garry and his coat that he probably wears everywhere because it’s a good texture. look at ib and her. everything. mary might be adhd instead though

speaking of mary, in the timelines where she escapes, she struggles in school because she’s never learned any math or science and her previous world literally operated on dream logic. if garry lives, he tutors her! if he doesn’t, she can get ib to try, but she’s kind of out of luck otherwise

paintings bleed paint. I think that’s pretty much canon. but what if it was fun colors?

ib’s parents aren’t horrible, but they are a little restrictive, and so when she goes to college she does a lot of fashion experimentation. big scene phase for a bit. she probably settles on a similar look as the one she started with, though.

i know the popular idea is that garry carries around a lighter because he’s a recovering/current smoker, and i don’t reject that headcanon, but i think he’s just a bit of a survivalist. my evidence for this is that in the original translation i think it’s implied that he has a knife? but i don’t know about the new version.

sometimes i remember that ib fan twitter user tht was diehard insisting abt how mary did nothing wrong in the story and how garry was apparently in the wrong

mary is just a child and i do feel bad for her. her entire thing is very sad and i wish there was a way to bring her into the real world without having to let garry die as well. however, with everything ib and garry have seen throughout the fabricated world, of COURSE garry's going to assume the worst when he finds out mary is also a painting. almost every living painting/art piece/etc. that him and ib have encountered have wanted to harm them. fuck's sake the first time you see garry in the fabricated world is him on the verge of death BECAUSE of one of those living paintings. of COURSE he is going to immediately assume 'oh shit she wants to hurt ib' which she does indeed attempt to do when she finds out garry knows tht she's a painting. like, it SUCKS, and i wish there was a better way, but at that point she does actively want to hurt the two and actively tries to. in my ideal world there's an ending where you can save them both :(
