Lo’ak being called the Toruk Makto amulet is just so….😭 he is really Jake’s baby, and still people say he hates him. 🥹🥹
The Mischaracterization of Jake Sully
Avatar Fire and Ash Spoilers.
Ever since the release of Avatar: The Way of Water, the fandom has mischaracterized Jake's character. Categorizing him as cold and uncaring when in reality, Jake is nothing like that, and actually loves his family more than anything.
All the things people are saying about him relating to Neteyam's death like how he quickly moved on, he didn't comfort Neytiri, and that he just simply didn't care couldn't be the furthest from the truth.
The 'lack of care' people have been talking about is Jake's way of grieving, and we've seen him act like this before especially in the first movie.
In the very beginning Jake does it when his brother dies, he does it when Grace dies, he did it when Tsu'tey died, and of course when Neteyam died.
This is just how he processes his emotions and the events around him, he goes numb in the face of death. To say he moved on quickly and didn't comfort Neytiri is bullshit. They both lost their first child. It would obviously hurt him.
He grieves throughout the whole third movie, and unfortunately takes it out on Lo'ak who already feels as if the family would be better off without him.
Jake loves his family, the entire family including spider, if he didn't he wouldn't be protecting them moving them from place to place to raise them safely.
What this fandom has to remember is that while the story is simple, the characters are complex and different. Even a character which seems as straightforward and “boring” (as some people put it) as Jake Sully has many aspects buried into his character.
enough fooling around, who's gonna be my love interest who i pin on the frozen surface of a lake while i yell at you "now you know who i am. tell me again that i disgust you. tell me." and as our faces get closer, the ice breaks and you go under. la belle et la bête (2014) style.
Neytiri sitting and waiting for Kiri to wake up 😭😭😭
me watching people complain about how the in the movie (avatar 2) they were speaking English the whole time and barely Na’vi when at the beginning of the movie Jake said
“It took a few years to get the language through my thick skull. But now when I hear it,it might as well be english”
As the scene switches from Lo’ak and Kiri fighting in Na’vi then when he finishes saying his inner monologue it’s in English.
It’s in English because we are watching through Jakes point of view just like the first movie.
This also applies to when they go to the metkayina clan. It’s still Na’vi and it’s still from Jake/Viewers point of view it’s just in English so people understand.
Like imagine reading subtitles the whole movie😭
*edit regarding the last line,I wouldn’t mind reading subtitles the whole time cause I put subtitles on when I watch ANYTHING,but I did see people complain about what it would be like if there were subtitles the whole time
