the natural lifespan of a fandom is unlimited. when well tended a fandom can be functionally immortal. and yet everywhere you look you see newly bred fandoms withering and dying when they’re barely a year old. barely even six months old. fans are looking at their six month old fandoms and saying i think it’s on its last legs, should i euthanise it? when with the proper care that fandom could outlive them for decades. it’s sad. sad state of affairs we’re in.

I’m imagining an au where Simon and Grace knew each other before everything went down and Grace was sent off into space. Like specifically a long fic with time skips starting from where Grace is writing his thesis and has Simon proofread it and Simon is like, “dude, this title is too damn long” and Grace is like “it makes its point”

Or, alternatively, they aren’t friends and Simon is the one Grace calls a staggering waste of carbon LMAO. And then they end up on the same project to save the world

I’d love to see an au fic where Yao and Ilyukhina survive the trip to space and Ryland is basically third-wheeling the mission and trying his best to relate and to help them and feels lost. Then he meets rocky. Then he meets Simon. Ship gets very very crowded. Forced proximity? Id just like to see how their dynamic changes with more people involved

I really like the head canon that rocky and Simon wouldn’t get along at first, but I also like the concept that something so simple would make them understand each other

The first night Simon and Grace sleep in the same room; rocky goes to watch Grace sleep and realizes Simon’s already doing it because Eden is a generally unsafe place to not be on guard. Then when rocky starts to watch Simon sleep and he’s very grateful for it and takes it as a sign of friendship.

Ergo rocky would be annoyed at how long it took Grace to be comfortable with rocky watching him sleep
