BAND OF THE WEEK BLOG anyone else tired of bands that focus more on their looks than their actual music? well I've decided to start a page where bands' talents will be showcased rather than the usual "oh he's so cute!" you see online...
I choose a band.
I tell you why you should check them out. you listen. you fall in love. The End. (: LEAVE ME THINGS/SUGGESTIONS! Introductory Post [my Personal Tumblr]
var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-19024957-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })();
ughh, sorry! I've been busy with life as of lately.
I'm holding down two jobs and still squeezing out streetteam work for a couple bands/labels... but if people still want me to keep up with this, let me know! I'll try to get back in the swing of things.
also send suggestions if you do want me to stay alive.sound good? (:
a personal favourite of mine, this song has a great message to it.
with lyrics such as
"and how can we spread hatred so religiously?
when we all have the time to recognize
that there's someone out there who'll never understand
that love is something worth living for"
but with the song's message, comes a great balance of the band's rougher music styles and Purves' smooth vocals (this song reminds me a lot of past band of the week Sent By Ravens). packed with energy and amazing guitar riffs, this song literally has it all
a little different than their usual sound,
I wanted to feature this song to show off singer Pat Purves' vocal abilities... it's a nice change from their high energy songs to have this slower, more heartfelt one.
a personal favourite of mine, and probably one of their more 'poppy' songs
this one is clearly about a bad relationship with a girl... easy to relate to, catchy; just an overall great song (:
the opening and title track off the band's full length,
this song is a perfect example of Life On Repeat's ability to balance their heavier sound with the catchy melodic hooks. a great way to introduce new fans to the band's sound.
Life On Repeat
Hometown: Salisbury, MD
Record Label: Equal Vision Records
For Fans Of: Conditions, There For Tomorrow, Sent By Ravens
in today's scene most bands are either obsessed with making the typical pop-punk, or they go the 'screamo' route; either way it tends to get a bit generic after awhile. luckily there are a few gems that you come across, and Life on Repeat happens to be one of those.
with their first release (As I Grew), the band's sound had a little bit more catchy melodies to their sound (think Mayday Parade, or old There For Tomorrow..). but as the band kept touring and playing shows with some bigger bands, their sound evolved for their recently released Struggle + Sleep.
keeping a healthy balance of their incredible energy, heavier guitar riffs, and singer Pat Purves' incredible vocals, the band's sound changed in ways that completely works for them. more aggressive yes, but still holding onto the melodic hooks and emotion that comes with their pop-punk(ish) roots. and having lyrics that people can easily identify with is a definite added bonus
catch the guys on tour this fall with Jamie's Elsewhere and Secrets!
simple and fun, this song's got a certain groove to it that will either have you bopping your head or dancing from beginning to end.... and the song's lyrics (with lines like "we all speak in tongues and bury our lungs in dreams") have a great message/leave you thinking, which I always appreciate
an all-around fun song, about (as you can tell by the title) having a good time/drinking... musically this song is upbeat and intricate and just shows off the band's talents to their full potential.
hands down my favourite of NGHBRS' songs,
this one is a bit different than their usual stuff; armed with just a piano and singer Ian Kenny's amazing vocal range, this song is dripping with emotion. slow, smooth, with a slightly eerie sound, it's one of those songs where you want to just close your eyes, put on headphones, and soak up all the vibes this song gives off.
the opening track off NGHBRS' Hellomind EP,
this song has a bit of everything; from catchy (but meaningful) lyrics, to intricate guitar riffs, this song is definitely for many different audiences.
and if you click the link below, you can hear an interesting studio session the band did earlier this year. it's got a bit of a jazzy feel to it; definitely different than the original, but still fantastic (showing the band's diverse skills and influences)

NGHBRS
Hometown: Long Island, NY
Record Label: unsigned
For Fans Of: Envy On The Coast, Anarbor, Fall Out Boy
if you're looking for a band with a healthy balance of catchy pop-punk and music with an edgier sound, then NGHBRS (pronounced neighbors) is where you should look first.
with their debut EP "Hellomind", the band has a bit of everything for everyone. with songs packed with explosive riffs and rough vocals, to smooth piano ballads, and everything in between, NGHBRS doesn't quite have one distinct sound/genre you can stick them in. unlike a lot of bands out nowadays, they're not afraid to play around with their unique sound and use their talents to their full potential. and that's what makes them so fantastic.
the guys just released a Deluxe version of their Hellomind EP,
with two additional songs added to the mix. pick it up HERE
the band's single off their first record "Controversy Loves Company", and probably the band's most known song. this is most likely the first song most fans had ever heard from the band and started their love for them.
and upbeat, energy-filled song that states the band doesn't want to be a part of the "cookie cutters" out in the scene right now. and with lyrics like "look at what we've all tried not to become; another fabricated self-portrait" it's easy for fans to take the song and use it as their own "I don't want to fit in" anthem... and if you check out the video for this song here, it portrays the song's message pretty well
