This hearty baked ziti recipe calls for Italian sausage, peppers, onions, and a zesty tomato sauce. The dish is then baked to perfection and topped with layers of melted cheese. This dish is warm and tasty, and it's great for feeding a lot of people or having a cozy family dinner.
Ingredients: 1 pound ziti pasta. 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed. 1 onion, thinly sliced. 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced. 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes. 1 teaspoon dried oregano. 1 teaspoon dried basil. Salt and pepper to taste. 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese. 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese. Fresh basil leaves for garnish optional.
Instructions: Before you start cooking, heat the oven to 375F 190C. Follow the directions on the package to cook the ziti pasta until it is al dente. Remove the water and set it aside. Warm up the Italian sausage in a big pan over medium-low heat until it turns brown and is fully cooked. Take it out of the pan and set it aside. Put the red bell pepper, green bell pepper, and sliced onion in the same pan. For about 5 to 7 minutes, or until soft, cook. To the pan, add the minced garlic and cook for one to two more minutes. The dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper should all be mixed in now. Let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes. Put the cooked ziti pasta, cooked sausage, and tomato sauce mixture in a large bowl. Combine well. Put the pasta mixture in a 9x13-inch baking dish that has been greased. On top, put the grated Parmesan cheese and cut up mozzarella cheese. Put foil over the baking dish and bake in a hot oven for 20 minutes. Take off the foil and bake for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese melts and starts to bubble. If you want, add fresh basil leaves as a garnish before serving.
